I don't know why people are surprised about Thailand's medical. It has been a medical hub for about 15 years. If you look at the world rankings for healthcare, medical doctors, etc., Thailand always shows up. It might not be in the top 10 overall, but in terms of value, it has consistently ranked among the best. The private hospitals in Thailand are full of foreign patients, and not all of them come for sex change operations, if you know what I mean.
Thailand got 6th world top rank in medical heathcare security after covid handling performance, it is the only one low people income country in the top 10
I used to fly from Sydney to Thailand to get my teeth done. One time I got a crown a filling a clean. 10 nights in chiang mai at a 4 star hotel. My flights etc and total was cheaper than 1 crown in Australia. I had my teeth done numerous times in Thailand they are fantastic dentist no matter which part of Thailand you visit 😍
I had one Tooth removed in Australia during the covid time. It costed me $450 AUD. At the moment , I am having 6 teeth problem. I need to travel to Thailand for another 2 trips to complete my teeth treatment, ( fill-up,root canal treatment and 2 teeth implant) My total cost including plane tickets ,would be $8500 AUD. If I got them done in Australia, I would cost me 25,000-35,000AUD. ( From Melb)
Pleased you “enjoyed” your dental visit 😁 I use Nana dental practice and find them amazing. I broke a tooth in the UK and after countless visits and over £2,000 I still hadn’t got it sorted. When I moved to Hua Hin I went to Nana, first visit was same as yours including X-ray etc. Going through the work plan I discovered a bone graft I’d been charged £700 for in the UK hadn’t actually been done 🤬 Needless to say the work Nana did including an implant specialist from Bangkok was half the cost I’d been quoted in the UK. The whole process from start to finish was excellent and pain free. Would recommend them to anyone, particularly anyone with a fear of dentists as they put you at ease from the start. Keep smiling 😁
WOW! I have a huge FEAR of dentists why I go ALOT (minimizes my anxiety!!) to care for my teeth. Great video thanks!! Heading to Thailand again in 41 days!!!
Thanks Lloyd. WOW! I can’t believe much cheaper it is there. It’s just so expensive here in the states. The reason being is because the dentists and surgeons have to pay exorbitant amounts in malpractice insurance. Another thing I loved about your dentist visit was how thorough they are and everything is itemized out clearly. 😊
As a son of a dentist, this was a very interesting video. The practice and the staff made a very good impression. This treatment, teeth cleaning, check-up, etc. would cost around 300 euros in Germany. So super cheap. Just a tip: dentists often want to remove wisdom teeth, even if it is not necessary...

It's not necessary to remove wisdom teeth but at the end of the day it'll get cavity whatsoever ,especially the one that stay under the gum so removing before going into that stage is better.
@@sonjadyason8802 Yeah me too - they love pulling those things out. One dentist wanted to remove one of my wisdom teeth because it had a little decay, I told him no - just fill it - that was many years ago, also in Hua Hin.
Cheers for this, nice to see what it's like over there! My partner and I were looking at a check up while we're there, we've been backpacking for over a year so it's probably a good shout!
So true - dental treatment in Australia is so expensive. Even if you have medical cover, it doesn't cover everything. I was in Nana last Thursday for a check up and clean (B800). Om the receptionist is knowledgeable and very helpful.
My wife and I have been to Nana dentist many times, LOVE HER, best dentist we have ever been to!!! $817 CAd or AU is incredibly cheap for all the work you are getting done, in Canada it would be more like $5,000 or more. I would be incredibly shocked if Safety Wing covers anything at all, please post and let us know if they cover anything. We self insure while travelling, it costs way to much at age 65 for health insurance, but we are very healthy. I have never seen a travel plan that covered dental, they say they cover it, but most people I have talked to say they find a way out of paying
Thank you so much for this video. Our visiting brother saw your video and made an appointment. He wasn’t disappointed. Then we made an appointment and have just had ours done. So thorough and yet gentle. We are now going there every6 months for a general check and clean. Thanks again and cheers.
Good on ya, Lloyd! Very brave to show the inside of your jaw on the TH-cam! Excellent video and excellent care in Thailand. It would cost a small fortune to do all of it in Oz. 😊
In government hospitals, Thais can get free dental treatment in many ways, except for cosmetic dentistry or cosmetic decoration. And the equipment used is excellent. And the X-ray examination is in the same format as the clinic in the clip. I think this is the same standard. I have been to the dentist many times, both in government hospitals in Bangkok and government hospitals in Chiang Mai, and they provide equally good service with new and modern equipment. I love Thailand.
I've used dentists in Thailand for over 20 years excellent service always. I would get a 2nd opinion on your Wisdom teeth tho Lloyd, i have all 4 as well.. I've still got mine in 15 year after i was asked if wanted mine removed. Still no pain from them.
I would get a 2nd and maybe 3rd opinion. You will find that different dentists prescribe different treatment plans. One time I went to a dentist and she wanted to do 14 fillings, I got a second opinion and I only needed 6 fillings done. Another time I went, the dentist wanted to do 3 crowns, I got a second opinion and the dentist said I didnt need any crowns. Even though you arent paying for it, it does take up a lot of time and stress to go though the procedures, so its worth to get a second opinion. Keep in mind the dentist does need to make money to pay themselves and their staff and business costs, so depending on how much business they are getting can determine how much treatment they prescribe to you. If you go to a busy dentist who has lots of patients, they may end up prescribing less treatment to you compared to a dentist that isnt busy.
I see your point but how do you then decide whose opinion you trust? Do you end up just going along with whatever dentist suggests the cheapest treatment simply because it's cheaper? What if the dentist that suggested a more expensive treatment plan was actually right? You might pay more for it in the long run if you avoid necessary treatment.
@@the_wandering_kiwi Thats why you get a third opinion. When I had that dentist prescribe 14 fillings, I got a 2nd opinion and the dentist wanted to do 6 fillings, I then got a 3rd opinion and the dentist wanted to do the the same 6 fillings, so I went with majority wins, 2/3 dentists wanted to do 6 fillings
@@benjamesv Oh yeah that makes sense. I would do the same (majority wins) but it wasn't clear in your first comment because you only mentioned having two completely different opinions each time you went to the dentist. It's hard to decide if all opinions are completely different from one another but as soon as you get two different experts that agree then you're probably on the right track.
In Thailand the smartest person become dentist then doctor then pharmacist because these are the most honourable career in our society. So the competition is fierce if you were to graduated from the government owned university which cost nothing compared to private university. That's why healthcare is top notch service in Thailand.
I finally managed to get an NHS dentist here in the UK. Had a check up, scale and polish, scan, xray, and three fillings and it cost me £74. Private it would have cost a small fortune.
Hello.. I'm watching from the North of Thailand. Since we're born in a rather poor family and back then all kinds of snacks weren't easy to find like in the present days, so we very often ate such hard and tough stuffs like 'roasted tammarine seeds' and sometime even some 'roasted dried-skin of buffalos or cows' which was very hard to chew so it did ruine our teeth. Now in my mid fifty I've three of my teeth extracted so far. 😆
What a great video this is! Thanks for sharing this Lloyd! I literally before I moved to Australia last year, had a full dentist operation done back in the U.S. just to be set before I left for good and that was a huge mistake because I also had 8 fillings, 2 root canals, a deep clean and 3 month clean after all of that plus wisdom teeth (that I didn’t have done) was close to $12,000 USD with private insurance in the states😑🤦🏽♂️. With my insurance but without the wisdom teeth it was about $5,500 USD which is still just absurd and I’m still paying that off🤦🏽♂️. I will never make that mistake again and the fact that yours is about $800 AUD / $600 USD is so good plus safety wing👏🏾👏🏾. I’m definitely going to have to swing over to SE Asia for my operations definitely since I have SW as well. Sorry for the long comment haha but loved this video! 😁
Loathe the dentist but have to go. That was very informative Lloyd. My son just had his 4 wisdom teeth plus 1 other out here in Australia under general anaesthetic and cost $4000.
Living in the UK, I had lots of dental work done in Slovakia. It was a fraction of what I would have paid in the UK. I still have most of my teeth but two implants where teeth were removed because of root canals. But the dental practice there looked a lot like the one I went to in Slovakia with top equipment. Really think twice about root canal and do your research. I personally lost teeth after root canal because there is always a problem with eliminating bacteria in the process. I literally had a tooth rot out under a crown from root canal which affected the adjoining tooth. Wisdom teeth too... unless they are growing sideways and giving you trouble, why extract them. I still have 2 top wisdom teeth and I am 80 in January, particularly if they are going to remove a tooth near the wisdom tooth. My son had wisdom teeth removed recently and he had a terrible time with it because they had to go very deep and there are major nerves under them. Again do your research. Critical thinking is premium when it comes to your health.
Hi lloyd , I watched your video and convinced by your words I tried to sign up for Safety Wing, the fact is that contrary to what you say in the video, for dental care they do not reimburse more than $ 1000 and you must not have a chronic problem. that is, a dental problem from a long time ago. what do you recommend?
I live in Thailand and recently cracked a porcelain crown , I usually go to Vietnam for my dental treatment as it is much cheaper than Thailand it’s also super modern, plus I get to see friends. I needed this crown replaced urgently and more or less got an appointment here in Thailand straight away. The dentist here was superb and did a great job gave me a temporary crown and it took a week for the replacement to arrive and was fitted actually today. The crown was perfect and looks great however I half heartedly believe that I payed the ferang price for the replacent which seemed pretty expensive. For the same replacement crown in Vietnam it is more than 3 times cheaper and I can the work done within 2 days.
It's fair, bro. You white people earn more. Asian people are many times worth your money. If you say you were taken advantage of Tell your government to switch to the baht for main currency.
I had to do crowns on all my teeth and I closed to do it in saigon. Cost was 155 million dongs for 28 crowns. I did ziconia for my back teeth and 3m crowns for my front teeth. Had everything done in 8 days. Many people are looking to Vietnam for dental works now
Oh man, make sure you also get your gums checked for inflammation. I was the same...I travelled for many years and never saw a dentist. During this time I developed periodontal disease. Will have this my whole life and its not good for the health at all. Now i brush my teeth properly.
OMG- I had a tooth under a crown that cracked then later broke, leaving the root still in my gums. I ended up getting root pulled out then had an X-ray and another molar was cracked and it needs to be pulled out. Ugh! They quoted me $1,600 for one fake tooth to be inserted. I cannot recall what it’s called where they do a graft to increase bone density in jaw where they will drill a fake tooth later into place where tooth was pulled out. In total, there are three teeth that needs a graft plus fake tooth drilled in. For all of that, in USA, they quoted me $5,000 USD total when all is said and done.
It’s not our technology; those are international standards that the USA or Europe have, and they should be available in Thailand (or anywhere else) since they are for sale. Studying to become a doctor in Thailand is tough due to the government's scholarship program, which offers limited seats to those who pass the exam one have to be the best not second best. Being a doctor is a reserved profession for Thai nationals, including nurses. It is often easier to qualify to study medicine in other developed countries than in Thailand due to the limited number of accepted applicants. Many Thai doctors can easily win scholarships to study abroad, but not all Thai doctors who earn their first degree abroad will be able to obtain a license to work in Thailand-it can take years to do so and those who did are not because of money but they wanna be near their family. As for dentistry, the competition is incredibly high because it’s seen as easy money-everyone needs a dentist. Thai people can also use government social benefits at most dental clinics or hospitals, including private ones. Thousands of private clinics compete for customers, and doctors often rotate between clinics. However, the equipment must be top-notch to survive in this business. Thai people with more disposable income tend to be very picky, and they are likely to return to the same dentist or clinic they trust. Government hospitals are part of the free social benefit system it free maybe good if it werent overcrowded, while private ones must offer superior services for people to pay more, and they usually do since Thai doctors are privileged and their number is limited most Thai doctor work at government to pay back the scholar and at the same time they work for private hospital in order to earn the good income. Recently, the government launched a campaign to make Thailand a medical hub, but this wouldn’t succeed if there were too few doctors. Not long ago, the government allowed a private university to open a medical faculty-there’s only one-and those who study there are often seen as second-best in Thai people eyes these are unable to obtain a Thai scholarship. Nevertheless, Thailand has managed to maintain its high medical school standards compare to most country. Most Thai doctors are kind and dedicated to their profession. They study medicine to treat patients and help people. However, there are exceptions to be cautious of, such as doctors who prioritize making money and their own convenience. These include dermatologists and plastic surgeons, whose skills should be carefully assessed. On the other hand, most dentists maintain high standards.
What insurance do you guys use here in Thailand? Or do you just have the travel insurance thing? Crazy cheap btw...I paid 5 k in bkk just for the check-up and X-ray etc haha
OMG!!! I paid &1800 CDN for just a root canal then i paid another $1300 for the cap for that tooth....thats unreal pricing there wow wow wow...worth the flight just for the dental care!!!!....viv
Here cost me $200 in USA, I 've just done all last month Please take good care of your teeth as well as possible. Nothing is better than the original ones, TRUST ME. Thanks for sharing information.
Is safety wing travel insurance? Why it cover the dental bill that are not from accident? Or are they private health insurance? I live in Australia and I’m curious about the insurance. Thank you
Thanks Lloyd, great video, do you they a clinic in Phuket too? I agree our prices in Sydney are so high. Great to know this is safe to do in Thailand, also do you know of a good dentist in Bali? Wondering if one is better than the other?
Yes, the free holiday we get in Mexico is totally worth it to get our dentistry done! I have had most of mine completed and my hubby has had most of his done as well! Amazing! :)
If you read safetywings coverage agreement it explicitly lists dental under NOT covered. Only emergency dental is covered up until 1000 dollars and some maximum for a lifetime. So it is not a dental plan. I would be surprised if they covered this procedure since its not really an emergency (especially since you didnt go to the dentist for 7 years, its kind of your own fault).

That's phenomenal Lloyd. I'm the same as you man, I live on the GC and really don't want to pay dental prices. I'm back to Phuket in May and will be getting all dental done then.
From Safetywing's FAQs: "It is not a replacement for health insurance because it is only designed to cover emergency accidents and illnesses that may happen while you travel, rather than preventative care, elective treatment or continuing treatment of chronic conditions." Did they cover your dental mate?
Your wisdom teeth is normal don't remove them. just do the filling. Btw I'm Thai and I suggest to check second opinion first, may be check with another clinic before you make a decision.
I personally don’t like visiting the dentist……at all! During my over 10 years as a student in the US, I’d actually fly home (Thailand) to get my teeth done, cheaper than doing it in the US, this also includes my round trip flight from Boston - Bangkok, via Tokyo.
Paid $396 at National Dental here in Qld, only about 5 weeks ago; tooth was too far gone and they wanted to do a Root Canal. I said "pull it, its been there 43 years, it owes me nothing", except the $396 for 8 minutes work...

Plaque cleaning on average in TH costs 500THB = 11.50GBP, same thing would cost 50GBP back in the UK.
Thanks for sharing 👍
I had to do crowns on all my teeth and I closed to do it in saigon. Cost was 155 million dongs for 28 crowns. I did ziconia for my back teeth and 3m crowns for my front teeth. Had everything done in 8 days. Many people are looking to Vietnam for dental works now
Thks for sharing this Lloyd. Did you have to book months ahead or did they set the appt the week you called?
I only had to book about a week ahead, should be fine. probably busier in high season (Nov-March)
I’m a dental assistant in Australia and I’m pretty surprised by their technology. Seemed pretty similar to a Australian check up and clean
very nice here, i was surprised too
It’s not our technology; those are international standards that the USA or Europe have, and they should be available in Thailand (or anywhere else) since they are for sale.

Is safety wing travel insurance? Why it cover the dental bill that are not from accident?
Or are they private health insurance?
I live in Australia and I’m curious about the insurance. Thank you
England is expensive too
Thanks Lloyd, great video, do you they a clinic in Phuket too? I agree our prices in Sydney are so high. Great to know this is safe to do in Thailand, also do you know of a good dentist in Bali? Wondering if one is better than the other?
Honestly, there are so many great clinics all over Thailand, but i do highly reccomened Nana dental in Hua Hin
Yes, the free holiday we get in Mexico is totally worth it to get our dentistry done! I have had most of mine completed and my hubby has had most of his done as well! Amazing! :)
Did you get a free caterpillar on your lip
lol i see what you did there
Mate, I’m 8 years!!! 😂 I’m too scared
get over here and do it
18,000 Bhat is like $600 USD. Those dental work could easily run you $10,000 USD in the states.
for sure
Asian nations are exploited financially. Because of this, the majority of Asians work in America.
Good Luck ❤
Thai health care service is second to none in this world
Thumbs up 👍 Lloyed
Wow that's cheap. Can you find out how much to do dental implants for molar teeth. Cos I may need like 4 😂😂😂.
anywhere in Bangkok.
Trust me.
Read below/:
I had one Tooth removed in Australia during the covid time. It costed me $450 AUD.
At the moment , I am having 6 teeth problem. I need to travel to Thailand for another 2 trips to complete my teeth treatment, ( fill-up,root canal treatment and 2 teeth implant)
My total cost including plane tickets ,would be $8500 AUD.
If I got them done in Australia, It would cost me 25,000-35,000AUD
How was this dentist recommended to you, Lloyd?
i literally just drove past, and looked them up on a google and they had amazing reviews.
That's phenomenal Lloyd. I'm the same as you man, I live on the GC and really don't want to pay dental prices. I'm back to Phuket in May and will be getting all dental done then.
Awesome, you get a fun holiday and you get your teeth done
1000 Bath it's normal cost for cleaning but why not include cost of X-Ray.
From Safetywing's FAQs:
"It is not a replacement for health insurance because it is only designed to cover emergency accidents and illnesses that may happen while you travel, rather than preventative care, elective treatment or continuing treatment of chronic conditions."
Did they cover your dental mate?
Yep covered my dental, they cover checkups and fillimgs etc. perhaps you were looking at the nomad insurance instead of nomad health?
@@LloydandMandy Ah yes, that is indeed my goof up. Thanks for the clarification!
Your wisdom teeth is normal don't remove them. just do the filling. Btw I'm Thai and I suggest to check second opinion first, may be check with another clinic before you make a decision.

i would argue some are even better
👍👍👍👍😂
Wow you can run away from dentist oversea for years but not in Thailand. 😂
7 years dude and no dentist check up ? Lucky she did not pull them all out eh. Would of sent you broke in Bogan.
Simply have 6g of Xylitol mints everyday (2 mints after eating) to never need to go to a bloody dentist again !!!
I said "pull it, its been there 43 years, it owes me nothing", except the $396 for 8 minutes work...
rip off, 4 wisdom teeth out 400 baht
Jeez, do you ever brush your teeth..
not even once
4 wisdom teeth smell like 10 rotten oysters
