Sohyang has been known to make her performances memorable and this rendition of "I Have Nothing" can really attest to her vocal achievement. It's wonderful to see artists perform with joy on stage, as Sohyang seemed to be here. Although we don't know for sure what contributed to her happiness in addition to her stage here, we know that Sohyang sang "I Have Nothing" on her first appearance of the competition show "I Am A Singer 2", and was less than satisfied with the result in spite of the fact she was ranked 1st. This performance gave her the opportunity to mark the rendition she wanted for this iconic song. I suspect that, as a singer, she had to have been pleased to present this improved version.
Always love your informed observations. Sohyang performed with David Foster at the Tokyo Blue Note last year. She also sang a concert with Josh Groban in Seoul South Korea last year. She's better known to this part of the industry than to the general public. There are only fan cams of bits of these performances.

Second comment as I felt you'd be glad to know this- Everytime she covers a song, she pretty much owns it, to the point she makes the original artists want to perform together with her. That’s what happened with this, which caught the attention of Oprah too, eventually leading David Foster himself, to do a concert together. The same happened with “You raise me up” and Josh Groaban, “In the flower garden” and Sumi jo, a grammy award winning opera singer, Michael Bolton and “lean on me”. Michael saw the performance firsthand as he was invited as the guest and called her a virtuoso and invited her to his tour later. Its the combination of her mastery in arrangements and emotional interpretation alongside her impeccable vocals, is what makes it all possible.

As @Komi mentioned I Will Always Love You is a great bookend to this performance. Instead of the two keys up flamethrower she uses here (starts in the key that Whitney ends in), IWALY is sung in the original key and is like a surgeon wielding a scalpel. Also note that she sang this song in the original I Am Singer 2 run and was VERY pitchy in the final verse. She said in the interview before her performance that she was hoping to make up for that performance, which is very on brand for her.
This might sound like just a normal love song, but she is actually courting, seeking love from God through singing. Listening to her singing again with that in mind, you will be able to sense that. It's almost always the same when she is covering pop songs, not to mention gospel songs.

Sometimes you can just put up audio and a picture rather than a video. The first time she sang this she didn't sing it so well and she was disappoint in herself, so she saw this as a chance of a do- over. She said she was very nervous before this performance and in the original video which is taken much closer she seems nervous for about half a second on starting but you can see she collects herself right away and later has fun with it. She does this smile that says "You are about to be hit with this" lol.
I love how she decompose the beginning of the song to let us unsatisfied before giving it all with a bonus. She is having fun with the song and the audience. Smartly done and so much maestroia as always...

I DARE anyone to name another singer, who could duplicate the PHENOMENAL So Hyang's version. The LATE, GREAT Whitney Houston, in her prime, MAYBE, could have matched So Hyang's cover.
I think her facial expressions are a little to "happy", "playful" and "seductive" for a song that has a message of "desperation" and "pleading". Everytime she covers a song, she pretty much owns it, to the point she makes the original artists want to perform together with her. That’s what happened with this, which caught the attention of Oprah too, eventually leading David Foster himself, to do a concert together. The same happened with “You raise me up” and Josh Groaban, “In the flower garden” and Sumi jo, a grammy award winning opera singer, Michael Bolton and “lean on me”. Michael saw the performance firsthand as he was invited as the guest and called her a virtuoso and invited her to his tour later.
Its the combination of her mastery in arrangements and emotional interpretation alongside her impeccable vocals, is what makes it all possible.

As @Komi mentioned I Will Always Love You is a great bookend to this performance. Instead of the two keys up flamethrower she uses here (starts in the key that Whitney ends in), IWALY is sung in the original key and is like a surgeon wielding a scalpel. Also note that she sang this song in the original I Am Singer 2 run and was VERY pitchy in the final verse. She said in the interview before her performance that she was hoping to make up for that performance, which is very on brand for her.

Do a reaction to her rendition of I will always love you from Begin again Korea.
This might sound like just a normal love song, but she is actually courting, seeking love from God through singing. Listening to her singing again with that in mind, you will be able to sense that. It's almost always the same when she is covering pop songs, not to mention gospel songs.

The first time she sang this she didn't sing it so well and she was disappoint in herself, so she saw this as a chance of a do- over. She said she was very nervous before this performance and in the original video which is taken much closer she seems nervous for about half a second on starting but you can see she collects herself right away and later has fun with it. She does this smile that says "You are about to be hit with this" lol.
I love how she decompose the beginning of the song to let us unsatisfied before giving it all with a bonus. She is having fun with the song and the audience. Smartly done and so much maestroia as always...

Plus starting at the key where Whitney ended. ^^ Even more insane is that she sang her own song "Dream" right after it there. And it's full of modulations and changes. Only her can sing it I guess :D If you can, check the song on DMC festival, she's wearing the same dress.
Maybe a tip for the future to avoid copywrite problems. Sohyang has amazing fancams which aren't causing trouble and still having good sound. Sure, the quality is lower but you hear her completely how she is. Incredible!

I think her facial expressions are a little to "happy", "playful" and "seductive" for a song that has a message of "desperation" and "pleading". Do you think she was doing that on purpose as part of her interpretation? It is almost like she was telling us "I'm know my performance will make you remember why you fell in love with me, so you can forget about ever leaving me."
