The government should force the fathers to pay child support, if the mothers aren't widows. The taxpayers shouldn't pay for deadbeat parents.

To blame is, mass uncontrolled immigration, the decline of general morality in society, the decline and frowned upon nuclear family model, the single parent epidemic, the decline in economic GDP and above all successive governments who have created a welfare system where by British people are de incentivised to work, whilst importing cheap foreign labour to subsidise the short fall. This has been going on for years and has had a detrimental effect on social housing. No government will ever get on top of this if you keep importing almost 800,000 people a year into this country. This country is going to break!

This is a problem here in Canada as well. It was 20 degrees celsius below zero last night. There are 22 homeless encampments in my small city here in Ontario. There is simply no affordable housing available. The average rent for a tiny one bedroom here is between 1700 and two thousand dollars a month. This does not include utilities like electricity. Old age pension is around 1300 dollars a month, which is taxed. Only the wealthy can afford decent housing here. The wealthy also pay the least amount of tax. It is obscene and utterly unacceptable.

I managed to get a "fixer upper" that I own, it's not flash but it's mine. I couldn't imagine how awful it would be to be homeless at my age. I was homeless as a teenager due to family violence. Have had no help or assistance form anyone. My life is uncomplicated and simple. I consider myself "lucky".
I see women in their 50's, 60's and 70's living in their cars. What has happened to the world. These women are not drug addicts, gamblers or suffer from metal illness. Their crime?..Leaving a bad marriage and because they were stay at home Mothers (working gender based low paid part time jobs) have no Superannuation or savings. All they have is the shirt on their backs after getting tossed out on their ear and a 20 year old banger. These women are Mothers and where are their children in their time of need ?.

Your simple. Do you want the next generation to completely stop having children unless they are in the top 1% of wealth or fortunate enough to be born into wealth and owned homes? Private renting = lifelong insecurity with regards to housing. And you can't save for a home or stay debt free whilst working and paying 48% of your income on someone else's mortgage. Too hard to rent too hard to buy. I'm writing this from a twin room I'm sharing with my 16 year old son after being made homeless by a private landlord whom I was loyal to for 6 years. 2 rental increases he couldn't get us out because I payed. He didn't do repairs adequately and served section 21 2 days after my son's birthday. 2 months in and minimum of 4 months before will be housed and cannot refuse anything offered. No choice with our own lives. And don't say "work harder, save" that's just insulting to most of us in this same situation. All this nonsense about where are the fathers well it's also working couples with kids British families sofa surfing or in temporary accommodation.

It's not just rental costs it's .............references, employment status and affordability checks that prevent people from securing a room in a houseshare let alone their own studio/apartment. And the landlords working with councils are not doing so out of the kindness of their hearts, their actually charging more rent for people in shitty situations because they know that no one in a good position would ever rent from them. And on top of that, these shitty landlords that work with the council are taking advantage of people that are in bad positions and treating them like ex-prisoners/children by telling these tenants ( despite them paying £850 pcm for an unfurnished shoebox that they will be showing up every three months to inspect the shoebox just in case you damage their shoebox. They honestly love the power. All under the disguise that there good people because they are helping homeless people.

this is so sad. here in australia we have nothing like this, well not where i have ever lived here. we have shelters but you have to of lived on the actual streets for 2 weeks until you can apply to stay the night and they are not cheap, and then you have to reapply every 24 hours. these places are run by charities and ive heard they are worse than living on the sts, people are physically assulted, have there possesions stolen, there is drugs all throughout (even though they have a no drug no alcohol ruling), people are terrified living in these type of places, so often choose to pitch a tent somewhere instead. the actual public housing lists in most major cities is a 10 plus year wait with tens of thousands of people already on the list. i love our beautiful country but so many people, who did not choose to live like this, live a very lonely horrific life, out in the elements every day with no or little help available. we have had my adult daughter and her friend and her friends daughter stay with us since december as they were sleeping in the car (her friend and her daughter). so we have taken them in and we only have 3 bedrooms and 6 people living here. its a tight squeeze, and they are all having to share a small bedroom and sleep on mattresses on the floor. but for them, its better than the alternative, especially as we just hit winter last wk. what a sad situation for all. and i have terminal cancer, so not sure how long i have left

The real problem is 20-30 years back the previous generation parents of these families made money but spent it all on lifestyle and luxuries instead of saving and buying a house or spending it on their kids education. Now those very next generation have no house no proper education to sustain. The same is happening in India where now people are spending on social media showoff, lifestyle living off the rent, not much of savings for their retirement and these very people will face the same fate. I hope this generation of India does not get swayed by this fake superficial societal norms.

I would like to hear the full back stories from the tenant problems and the landlords problems to find the the true reasons why the landlord has decided to sale , ie Goverments over taxing the landlord , bad landlord or bad tenant. No one is giving the full stories. We have to get to the Nuts & Bolts of the problems on al sides to get relief until they start building more homes

Having kids without financial stability and marriage is why they're in this situation

A landlord buys property usually with an interest only mortgage. On a 5 year fixed mortgage at 2% the landlord would make a reasonable profit. Interest rates are now close to 3 times what they were. If the rental does not cover mortgage payments, insurance, management and maintenance costs the landlord will be financially forced to serve a section 21 notice.Tenants must understand private landlords are normal people who invest in property for a financial return and are NOT charity organisations.

You need more Social housing and not Private housing. Life is toigh you need plan Young not when you're an adult. It was not nice to have section 21 at the end of the year. More private landlords are selling up. Seems irresponsible to have children without being in a marriage and not have secured a good paying job...in the past most married stayed in their parents home. The average cost to build a home in the u.k is between £1500-£2000 /m2. There seems to be a plague of single parents, what's the problem?
An estimated 500,000 landlords have sold up since 2019.

One thing about the US, it's against the law to evict tenants without a porbable cause. The UK tenant law is both cruel and inhumane. If the tenants has not missed a single rent and is forced to moved out, they should be reimbursed with at least 5 months rent. The UK tenants deserves the tenant protection from the landlords.

You haven’t seen the cities in the US, they’re like tent cities in Third World countries. Do you think the problem could stem from people having children they can’t afford? Greed is a big problem too. Stop having children and where are the fathers? Boy, if I were these people, I wouldn’t take a chance on getting pregnant. This is what happens when the importance of family and I’m talking marriage mother father children, planning first, is disregarded. The children suffer. I asked again Where are the fathers? Nothing will be better until we put God first.

You say landlords are mad for charging a market rent. Is it the landlords fault property prices have gone through the roof and not just here in the UK. It is also not landlords who set interest rates but central banks. Landlords typically buy rental property with interest only mortgages using their own savings as deposits. If Interest rates increase so must rents otherwise the landlord cannot make a profit. At the end of the day, landlords are investors NOT charity workers
