    Thanks for that video.
I got the same generator the 4000 and have only used it twice in 5 years for a total of like 2 hours. On Nov 1, 20109 my Hydro power went out and I decided to start the Generator.
On my first pull the cord broke to about the same length as yours. I was just about to purchase the whole rope coil assembly for 35.00 and at the last minute seen your excellent video. So I am going to fix it now and I agree that it would be better to have the pull cord on the left side as one is also closer to the choke to move it fast after it starts.

Good video. Bummer it broke again on the test, I hate when that happens. I think your right on the repositioning. Looks easier to hold or grip the machine and brace yourself with one hand and pull the cord with the other. Plus your right there to switch the choke off and on. Enjoy your instructions. How’s the shop coming along, any updates coming?

Great video. My cord did the same thing today. Very helpful on rotating the cover and putting oil on the mechanism. I'll probably just get a whole new cord, but rig it up in the meantime. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

I have the same exact generator my cord broke about 8 inches from the top and now it doesn't want to idle without the choke on

you probably just need to give the carb a good cleaning from sitting the cord wouldn't make it run differently

I have some things like this the cord came off the spooll and I popped it back on and it won’t retract now what do I do

if the spring broke you have to replace the part if it just unwound the spring you can rewind the spring but you have to be careful not to winde it to far or it will break

Man. You didn't show how the he'll you got the spool to actually create tension again.

@@JunkworksGarage Ah. Got it. I was spraying the he'll outta mine with some PB buster waiting for it to magically start spooling up good again......wondering how the he'll did he get his spooling again. I watched like 5 times thinking I had missed something.

@@JunkworksGarage I did rotate the cover though. Thanks. If you do ever have to reapool it it supper easy. Lineup the knot inside with the pull through hole. Keep ahold of the spindle and untie the current line, feed in your new line, tie a knot, and then there's a notch on the spindle you can place your new line in and rotate the spindle with three times counter clockwise. Control the spindle, to allow it to spool that bit of chord and repeat for two more spools. Then tie your new end up through the handle. Flicking easy and worked great. I threw some high tension parachord on mine.
