Worth noting that Jota wasn't even registered to play in league games in Saudi due to his club buying too many foreigners, then his country man coach was sacked. Understandable that after all that he'd feel relief back doing what he loves where he's loved
Hi guys, I’m not a Celtic supporter but I have listened to Alan and James in other podcasts and find their analysis of the game very interesting. On Jota, I found it quite touching he felt so much emotion for the club and fans. In a world that seems to be ever increasingly robotic, it’s wholly refreshing to see a player show his passion and feelings so publicly. I also agree with Alan’s assessment of Hearts, Aberdeen and Hibs being abysmally run over the decades and a real indictment of the game in Scotland. I’m hoping Hearts are at least trying to turn a corner with Jamestown and hoping the individuals persuing this model are allowed to do so without interference from egotistical board members and fans alike.
Just on Kris Boyd, I think most folk are of the same mind where he is concerned. The man is a buffoon.
thanks for listening and your considered comments Mike
Concentrating solely on your & dear old Alan's point about how fundamentally & intrinsically woeful & dire Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibernian & the two Dundee Clubs have been for several decades, I too have also made mention in the past of these Scotland's Top Five Clubs outwith Glasgow persistent & accelerated pitiful race to the bottom & it's their continued & sustained demise that is one of the primary factors as to why Scotland's SPL is woefully & pathetically poor in ANY kind of ''proper'' quality & ''proper'' competitiveness & NOBODY in what passes for so - called Scottish football ''journalism'' ever seriously mentions it, far less penning in depth articles that if not addressed, there is ONLY one inescapable sad ending.
Good post Mike. The fact the Boyd fronts a charity for men’s mental health (which is a good thing) and then mocks Jota for shedding a tear, sums him up completely. I’m sure he is an expert on tissues though.

Alan - many thanks for your impassioned, though reasoned, response to the Sky/Boyd/McGeady disgrace. Strong language but heartfelt and no less true for all that. You said what most of us were thinking! 👍
Excellent breakdown of the state of transfer situation. Good to hear from people who can get under the bonnet regards the situation drawing on real business experience and market dynamics in football and sports.
Excellent as usual. Great to see Alan getting animated about the moronic sky sports and cursing like a trooper.
Well for sure oor very own dear old Alan saying the f word twice certainly took us all by surprise & for me it wis all a bit surreal this emotional outburst of his & whit wis it all aboot exactly when the facts are ONLY ever Fatty Boyd saying post mach in reference to the Jota tears & I quote ''the only thing missing there from that pass of Maeda was a box of tissues'' & no matter whit any of us thinks aboot these specific remarks, Fatty Boyd was NOT ''mocking'' ANYONE when it comes to ANY kind of mental health issue(s) because he wasn't, end of & as for McGeady saying ''each to their own'' & ''not for him'' was again ONLY him voicing his opinion on someone shedding tears on a football pitch for mawkish ''sentimental'' reasons.....
I used to be an Art teacher in Glasgow, St Ninian's in Giffnock. I had the mispleasure of McGeady in my class, ironically also in the same class were Packy Bonnar's son and Tommy Burns' daughter who were exemplary. McGeady was a sneaky, snide little arse. Nothing has changed and he was shite at art.
I just love your posh Giffnock way with words, so cultured & so refined, although just maybe both Packie Bonner & his son would frown slightly at your spelling of his name.....
@frankbrennan1619 Thank you however I'm not fae Giffnock. I'm from Carfin and that's how we spelled it out there. We just didn't do the larnin'
@@Rosslyn301 Typical teacher, always right even when they're totally wrang, not only on an individual basis as in this instance, but then you wanting to take it even most ridiculously further & say EVERYONE in Carfin is also a shite speller & yes you've already guessed, I wis also ''shite at art.''
People commenting here have a chip on their shoulder.
A teacher friend taught Russell Brand. Told me ten years ago he was a pervy little mummy’s boy.
McGeadie has always been a wee scrote.
He's a wee fanny. Fulla bitterness.
Quality podcast👍
Remember Marco Tardelli crying after scoring a goal in a World Cup final and for me it is still the best goal celebration ever.
Paul Gasgoine breaking into floods of tears after recieving the yellow card which would have eliminated him from playing in the world cup final, if England had gone beyond the semi.
Personally found a lot of Rodgers comment's in the last press conference interesting. First was the Kyogo comment, someone asked if it was a mistake to let him leave and he something along the lines of "you dont know what I know" regarding his exit. Don't know what that means, but interesting. I find it worrying that there was seemingly no concrete links to a striker other than Kvistgaarden, who we've wanted for around a year and a half now I believe. Once that deal fell to pieces, the only other link was Iheanacho who is clearly a Rodgers target, and when that went nowhere there was nothing. Scouting network is either providing Rodgers with no targets or targets Rodgers deems not good enough, either way its an issue.
Second worrying comment was that he said that a loan deal for Tierney was never close. We knew Valle was leaving since before Kyogo left, and it took us until deadline day to get in a replacement. I'm very happy with Schlupp, don't think we'd find a better 6 month stop-gap LB to give Taylor support until Tierney comes in. But it took us around 2 weeks to get that deal done which is more concerning considering Schlupp has been on our radar since summer.
Scouting network needs some serious overhaul and like it was mentioned in the pod, its seriously concerning how long it takes for us to get deals done.
Spot on from Alan on Boyd/McGeady 👏🏼
Mr. Pecksniff, Mr. Smears, Mr. Whackford Steers, Mr. Uriah Heep, Mr. Snodgrass, Mr. Squeers, Mr. Pickford, Mr. Wopsle, Mr. Swiveller, Mr. Pumblechook. Mr. Podsnap. Just a few from the greatest character writer of his times. Charles Dickens.
McGeady played through the most ferocious abuse ever suffered by any player in Scottish football from the age of about 17 and never once flinched. He doesn’t need to put on a hard man act.
Unfortunately, Kris Boyds self-loathing bigotry against everything Celtic, deters him from showing any empathy towards anyone wearing anything Celtic related.
How Sky can continue to employ this person is beyond explanation.
You talk as if Sky is the epitome of sports journalism and Kris Boyd has fallen below their lofty standards.
They care only about revenue and his manichean schtick obviously plays well with the ‘punters’.
If you want to see change you need to Boycott Sky.
@@johnconnor1580 They MUST only ''care about revenue'' simply because no revenue, no business, no Boyd or ANY other so-called football ''pundit'' for that matter...
Great show as always folks.. we really need to revamp recruitment it's getting silly now
Regarding the Ange myth. Yes he brought in the japanese early but CCV and Jota were brought in on loan , last minute of summer window 2021. Abada was brought in july. None were ange signings. Maeda came jan 2022. So you can say that anges first title had little to do with his signings. Without CCV, Jota and Abada we we would not have one that league. They were Celtic scouting signings. You not agree?
Ode to a Harlot (completely fictional)
The inimitable Laura Bradburn,
She'll take your fee and do her turn.
But afterwards your ears may burn,
And itch and cloud and ache.
For the lass fae bishy never rests,
From entertaining paying guests,
And even those she views as pests,
For all she's on the take.
Her hair is dark her height is wee,
Barely taller than your knee,
But offer her a decent fee
And she'll keep you awake.
Before you blush or go bright scarlet,
Our Laura's just a PODCAST harlot
Hahahahahaha this is brilliant
@LauraABradburn What can I say, I went to a good school.
we can shuffle players around but we're still thin. hopefully Kenny steps up as that will take a lot of stress off the rest of the squad. Surely he cant be worse than Oh and we coped with him as second striker for a year.
The odds of 21 year old Kenny ''stepping up'' & whatever that means exactly, are stacked against him & not for ANY kind of beyond derision footballing ''conspiracy'' reasons or that there is no so-called ''pathway'' for younger & particularly home grown players, to ''progress'' from the so-called Academy & Lowland League to then becoming Celtic First Team ''regulars'' when the ONLY so-called ''pathway'' is are these 18, 19, 20, 21 year olds ANYWHERE good enough & the harsh reality is that they're NOT, because if they were, Rodgers would play them, I mean, why wouldn't he, for goodness sake & as I've said on numerous occasions previously, this is one of the very few aspects of playing matters where I COMPLETELY trust our Manager....
@@frankbrennan1619 he's been playing for Shamrock Rovers and in the Conference League
@@Lupi33z Quite literally & with all due respect to you, a world away from being a Celtic First Team regular....
Is my impression that we used the ball well valid ?
Hi William that is a difficult question to answer Yes or No! Pack passing measures the effectiveness of forward passing in taking opponents out of the game. The team score was 416. This season's average is 449 in the league. Final 3rd effectiveness is % of the time that Celtic creates a chance or takes a shot, wins a corner or otherwise maintains possession in the final 3rd vs losing it. This was 29% compared to a season average of 34%. So based on those proxies, I'd say "no" but it probably requires more thought as to how to answer.
29:45 she's made a great point, why do Celtic chase the same players for ages then lose out 😂 that guy at hearts the new striker kanbanu or something he's banging in goals and probably cost 300 quid
''She'' has a name & never mind us supposedly '' chasing the same players for ages then losing out'' but what barely gets ANY kind of mention is the fact that for some years now, we sign players at vastly overinflated prices & those that NOBODY else wants & the perfect examples of this in most recent times are, of course, £9.5 million with the add on, for little Norwich City's THIRD choice striker, a most ridiculous £11 million for Engels after an initial bid of £6 million & then somehow we most stupidly end up paying £11 million & so whit on earth wis that all aboot exactly & last but not least, £6 million for Trusty, which is a bit more understandable with the multi - billion EPL ''angle'' & Trusty ''helping'' to get Sheffield Utd relegated....
@@frankbrennan1619No, the same people across multiple pods’ comment sections bang on and on and on about Idah being a “third choice Norwich striker”, Engels not being worth the fee, and Trusty=bad (but I do like that the “he got Sheffield United relegated” was resurrected here!). It’s talked about. When Alan goes on ACSOM, just watch the bulletins the day immediately before or after and there will be some guy ranting off-topic for 45 minutes of a one hour program about the bespoke “what never gets talked about”. James brought up Trusty in this show, anyway.
The only thing that’s jarring to me as someone who follows teams in other sports that never win anything ever with players that actually care very little (or at least since the 70’s), why do Celtic fans hold so much disdain for their own players? I don’t remember this phenomenon being so rampant when I started following back in the late 2000’s?
But, I agree, the board, recruitment, and talent development are bleak.
@@Boo1023Boo But the facts are ONLY Idah was little Norwich City's THIRD choice striker & this was so because of his very poor goal scoring record & yet still, as oor very own dear old Alan told us, the money men at little Norwich City were most ridiculously looking for around £12 million for him & we ''negotiated'' them doon to the still ridiculous £9.5 million with the add on, when his true ''market value'' wis £4.5 million absolute max & sadly £11 million Engels is similarly still not even performing like a £6 million player, never mind a similarly ridiculous £11 million for him & as I've said previously, the £6 million for Trusty was the best value in the context of him having played in the multi - billion EPL... '
Mcgeady not only looks like a schoolboy, but acts like one too.
Hail Hail 🍀 🍀
Juco last week on Jota, 'I wonder how much he fits the profile of a Brendan Rodgers winger.....'. This week, 'signing players who don't fit our system....these two guys (Schlupp and Jota) do'. I'm glad the estimation of how much Jota fits into the system has improved in a week!
By "Brendan Rodgers winger" last weel I meant the type he usually likes...i.e. bigger and with pace/power like Sinclair.
What he likes is not necessarily the same as what suits his style of play, as Ian Graham cited recently on Rodgers' insistence on Benteke over Costa at Liverpool.
@@jucojames Sinclair & Jota are almost literally the same height, so definitely NOT ''bigger'' & was Sinclair really more ''powerful'' than Jota, I certainly don't believe so, but for sure, Sinclair was far quicker & then there's, my goodness me, the case of Benteke & do you think oor current Manager still has nightmares aboot that particular one & the spending of a huge, big, whopping, wait for it, THIRTY TWO MILLION poonds on that roaring success for Loserpool, ten years ago this coming July?
Maeda is and has been wonderful this season and his improvements under brendan is magnificent compared to the bf Greek aussie bloke 😂
Kuhn has been terrible for about 6 weeks now so what's going on with him!? Cheers
Yes indeed, I completely agree three lungs Maeda ''has been wonderful this season'' & totally believing like you & so many others, our current Manager has played a hugely significant role in his progression & development as a player & yes we all know, or should do, he still has a serious flaw or two to his game, but I've ALWAYS loved him overall for the simple fact & as I've said umpteen times before, no matter whether it's the 6th or 87th minute, he's ONLY ever full of running & now since he's in his 28th year, he's at the peak of his playing prowess & so most hopefully, we can retain the services of Daizen Maeda beyond that of his current contract which expires in 2027....
What about maedas lack of finishing abilities. He is effective out wide he drains the energy of full backs.
You guys have lost the run of yourselves.you know nothing on Desmond's mindset nor are part yo meetings with Rodgers or the board. This podcast is in danger of disappearing up it's own ass. When did you guys become megalomaniacz
WE seem to have a problem holding on to or developing young players beyond the age of 17
The recruitment dept seem to be more anal litical
The pile on on McGeady from Celtic ‘fans’ , for a misjudged comment, reminded me of the abuse he suffered at every away ground in Scotland for 7 seasons. Shameful, hun-like and really shows up the “men’s mental health” angle as full on virtue signalling by said fans.
McGeady's comments were neither ''misjudged'' or well judged, but instead ONLY him voicing his opinion on live TV, because that's whit he's paid to do as a so-called ''pundit'' & him seeing a player oot there on the pitch shedding tears for whit he ostensibly believes to be for mawkish sentimental reasons & so thus McGeady opining that such behaviour as ''not for me'' but ''each to his own'' & guess what, many will agree with him too & the modern day demented social meedya ''pile on'' as interpreting his opinion as somehow being near wholly derogatory and/or disrespectful for ''men's mental health'' is truly beyond derision & goodness only knows how oor very own dear old Alan allowed himself to get all caught up in it....
