Lucky you! I saw Branford's phenomenal quartet (w Calderazzo, Revis and Tain) twice in 2006 - once at the Vanguard and once at the Jazz Standard. For my money, that was one of the best groups at that time.
A long time ago I had a "Who is that?" while listening to Betty Carter and her ensemble at a restaurant / night club called "The Bottom Line". The pianist was John Hicks and the spirit and energy of his sound has stayed with me. Check out his Wikipedia bio and search TH-cam for more of his work, especially his collaborations with Pharoah Sanders. True moments. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hicks_(pianist)
Thanks so much for the ID. If you are the Ted Panken who used to host the musician's show on WKCR back in the 1980s, then thanks so very much for all of the music I first heard through your show. WKCR was on at my apartment every night back then. It was a thrilling time for music in NYC.
Branford talked sh*t about John Hicks playing too long at the vanguard. "Who wants to hear that?" I don't know Branford maybe everyone in new york? I didn't know Branford was on the gig he was disparaging.

Aloha legendary the music really speaks higher frequency 💚
I don't think anybody would recognize most of those tunes, but the last one is Blue "N' Boogie. Branford sure came to play here.
The tihrd one is called Sonny's Crib a Sonny Clark tune

My kind of music !
Wow great band.
The second piece is "After the Morning," an original by John Hicks.

You're very welcome!
The fourth one is "Straight Street" , John Coltrane tune
Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't sound like the same tune to me.

Branford is incredibly talented but also highly opinionated.
