The station pub once served the community has it’s church way before the village had a church, well over 100 yrs ago,and the actual pit was down Charles st, just off the main road into the village, I do wish the railway bridge before highthorne road could be painted and the shop premises re invested in, such a beautiful little village
My hometown. As a kid in the 80s I lived on Charles Street - the street before the bridge with The Ship Inn on the corner. Parents still live in Kilnhurst, albeit at the other end past the Church.
@timawells it's a very different place now to the village I knew as a kid. We moved from Charles Street to the Meadow View area past the church. My parents still live there now.
I drove through here a couple of days ago. It has been 'quiet' for years.
The guy who told me about Baker and Bessemer said it was a quiet village and there wasn't a good feeling there anymore.
o many thieves like lee on highthorne road

Hi Danny I would love to have seen the town when it was a thriving colliery town. Best regards Tim
The terrace houses on charles Street were demolished in 1986
@@user-mv5bu2kk8b we moved out in Feb 85 after compulsory purchase orders were made on the terraces.
