My main flyer in ASA has become a phoenix. Yes, they're a pain to find and tame, but as soon as you get a high level one, you have one of the most useful mounts ever. The phoenix is the fastest flyer, doesn't need to land to regain stam and provides you an endless supply of food. On top of that, it is the only flyer that is fast during a sandstorm and when overweight. If you level up weight, it is the perfect loot drop farmer, it actually can carry so much stuff, that I use it to store structures for base building. Speaking off, the Phoenix also can basical farm every resource, which makes it a great clean up creature for large bases. It's food is sulfur, which doesn't spoil. It is fast enough to outrun wyverns and small to easily fit in the nests, making it the ideal egg stealer. And it has a small chance to produce black pearls on top of the silica pearls. That is really damn useful for a map like Scorched Earth where you only chance of getting black pearls is from killing death worms. When I started taming Phoenixes I never expected them to be equal to an Argentavis or even a Wyvern, but they are actual superior to them. Their only issues are that they are unable to pick up creatures, cannot wear saddles and aren't breedable.
personally i mostly use a pelagornis bc they fit through simple doorways, and as a solo pve player, i built a castle that's more about aesthetics then praticality, so i use the pela to go from a tower to another by flying through the windows
Personally: 1. Rhyniognatha, only the Wyvern can keep up in strength but it has very good weight, the biggest pickup, can swim and so far in ASA is the only flyer that allows using a weapon while riding it, 2. Wyverns, they’re the fastest, basically the strongest and they have unique ranged abilities and good weight 3. Argentavis, it’s good for combat, farming and transportation 4. Pteranodon, they’re the easiest flyer to tame, one of the fastest, very agile and really good for pvp 5. Quetzal, it’s rare and hard to tame (otherwise it would’ve been above the Ptera) but it has high weight, it’s the third strongest flyer rn and it has a platform saddle and the second best pickup 6. Phoenix, would’ve been above the Quetz, Ptera and maybe even Argy if it wasn’t for the fact they’re rare, hard to tame and not breedable, they’re still really good though for utility, speed and combat both pvp and pve 7. Tapejara, it’s slower than the Pteranodon, has less weight than the Argy and its wall clinging, weapon using and 360 movement abilities just make it a worse Rhynio 8. Pelagornis, stats are only slightly better than Pteranodon but they’re way slower, harder to tame, only eat fish meat and don’t have a pickup which is what makes the Ptera so good for pvp 9. Lymantria, Ptera and Pelagornis level stats but they can’t deal any damage, are harder to tame and don’t have a pickup, easily the worst flyer even if we include flyers that aren’t in ascended yet
Yeah it's my go to flyer atm. It has nice QoL like cooking meat on the fly, being the fastest flyer and being able to burn rock elementals so it should at least be above the Pelagornis. To be fair you need an Argy to make the most effective use of the Phoenix's gathering but I agree it's really good especially at crystal.
@@jacobniemann4756Honestly, if you get a good level one the weight can be very good. Honestly it's better to just almost weight cap it and dash back than wait for an argy to keep up. I got a 135 Phoenix with 40 points into weight and 37 points into HP and its an absolute beast. I hardly ever need another flyer
@@rhettbutler5397 that's fair my Phoenix was a level 65 wild I think so it's kinda crappy. (It's purple though) I'll try and find a high level Phoenix and level it in weight for gathering... but they are so rare it took me roughly a week to find my crap one haha.
@@jacobniemann4756 Yeah but a purple one is definitely rarer than a high level one though so I think you'll find it hopefully soon enough. Honestly a 65 is still nice to have, better than what I had during all of ASE lol
YOU FORGOT ONE. Basically this isn’t technically a flyer but it still CAN fly, it’s the oasisor.(I know I spelt it wrong) but this flyer can carry a FREAKING TITANOSAUR. My point is proven
Honestly i think quetzal deserves high up bc of its use for all, it can br used to tame other quetzals, make bases, and is really good in pvp if designed correctly
I have to disagree with the wyvern being #1... not even #2. Wyverns stamina isn't great, and their weight leaves something to be desired. Gathering thatch isn't that useful since the chainsaw, or even a pick or a doedi can do it better. It can pick up tames, but has the turn radius of an aircraft carrier. The fire breath is nice, but the fire is selectively useful, the poison can kill you while riding it, and the lightning is a pain to aim. Not to mention, you can't put a saddle on them, which is really dumb. The Rhynignatha is more deserving of #1. It has better DPS on the ground due to a faster attack speed, it can fear roar anything except a Giga, the Resin Armor cuts damage in half, it can fire lock-on resin missiles, it can lock dino's in place for 15-20 seconds with it's resin bomb, or it can act as an aerial machine gun. It can swim in the water OR walk on the water, and is faster on the water than when flying. It can pick up anything up-to a rex, or any structure. On top of being fast, it has BETTER maneuverability than the Tapejara. You can stand on it while flying to regen stamina without landing, you can fire from the back without switching seats, and it also has 2 seats. With all of that utility, it also has really good weight and HP. The Argentavis isn't faster than the Wyvern, but for such a low level tame, it has a ton of utility and it can shred in combat. Mine deals 170 damage per hit, and my server doesn't use SP settings. They have great weight and HP, and can regen health. If you're fighting in caves (for servers that have it available) for some reason, Onyx's can't hit you. They can also fit into almost every cave.
Nice list. Yeah the wyverns are just too good Lighting and poison go hard in PvE and PvP respectfully and fire is just decent all round. Phoenix's can actually gather a surprisingly good amount of crystal with their claw attack... but you'll still need an Argent to carry it so yeah I agree with you putting it quite low. It does have some nice quality of life things though like cooking raw meat on the fly and being the fastest flyer in Asa these two reasons make it my go to for travelling the map atm. They can also burn rock elementals with their peck attack which is pretty useful but you'll need a strong birdo to try and kill one. I haven't tested it in asa to be fair because my Phoenix is kinda crap but they could in ase.
The new Platform Cart has reduced the usefulness of the Quetzal. Creatures you can equip a cart to can no longer board a platform. Lots of old builds that involved 2+ mining dinos on a quetzal no longer work. WC Hates Quetzals...
As a pvp player I can confidently say that I have never once been like gee I wish I had a moth. Literally just a glorified silk farm. Also Argys are probably where pterodanodons rank and vice versa
The Quetz is absolutte trash now. Very slow, Argy does its hauling job better and then you have Cryos and the Rhynio for carrying creatures. Badly needs a TLC

Something you might have missed: with the phoenix, it's One of the only ways to move quickly in a sandstorm because their space dash still works.
