  • In early September 2024 members of the Fort Ritchie Military Police Company returned to dedicate a museum exhit at the Fort Ritchie History Museum.
In 1926 Camp Ritchie opened as a Maryland National Guard Training Facility and was initially guarded by a platoon sized element of the National Guard.
In the spring of 1955, the Fort Ritchie US Army Military Police and Security Company took over duties from the National Guard.
In September of 1964 the unit was redesignated as the 572nd Military Police Company. The unit was authorized a complement of 132 enlisted and five officers.
In 1978 the unit authorization increased to 169 enlisted and eight officers.
In 1982 the unit had become so depleted that a mandatory 24 month stabilized tour of duty was initiated.
In October of 1994, the unit was redesignated as the Fort Ritchie Military Police Company assigned to the Military District of Washington.
In October of 1998, the unit was redesignated as the United States Army Security Force Fort Detrick, Maryland and moved operations to Fort Detrick.
In February of 2002 the unit was returned to the Military District of Washington.
In 2006 United States Army Security Force Fort Detrick, Maryland was deactivated and all security duties at the Raven Rock Complex were turned over to the Department of Defense Police.

There is something unique about having served at Fort Ritchiethat even Vietnam Vets, lifers and one enlistment soldiers agree on. Fort Ritchie not only sits in the beautiful Appalachian Mountain Chain, but it also mimics the beauty it is surrounded by.
Soldiers serving in the Fort Ritchie MP unit have gone on to be State Senators and Congressmen, Elected Sheriffs, Chiefs of Police, CEOs, CFOs and great members of the communities they come from.
As a group, we’ve hosted half a dozen reunions with over 100 different individuals attending throughout the years.
