Installing AVS Light Shield Bug Deflector

  • In this video I install the AVS Light Shield Bug Deflector. AVS gives you color matching options for your trucks paint for a nice blending finish. Unfortunately I couldn’t wire this the way I originally intended do to the lack of options available on the truck. Depending on what package you have on your RAM you may have more fuses available. If your truck isn’t equipped with said option you will not have a fuse available. With that said I originally wanted this to turn on and off with my headlights/ day time running lights. On the newer 5th Gen Rams those fuses are no longer accessible. The only option I had was to wire it to the ACC fuse. Another option would have been to try and take the headlight out and tie into the wires there. I decided not to go that route do to the complications of getting the headlight out and the possibility of breaking tabs. In all the finished product looks good and functions. I could use a toggle switch to have the unit turn on and off which I might look into later down the road but for now this will work. Lastly I discuss a little about AGS (Active Grill Shutters) what they are, how they work, and the new tune that will delete them. More on this when we get closer to that install.

I put a blue light rocker switch, ran power to the battery with a in-line fuse

You can run it to the fuse F43 so it comes on when you start your truck.

Looks great! Mines coming in next week but I went with the new pro version. The lights are spread out more and it uses different light patterns with blinkers and hazards. Problem is this one doesn't have paint match yet which I was disappointed with.

Nice! Yeah kind of sucks they don’t offer color matching yet for the pro version. I’ve seen people sand, prep, and paint them. It’s a lot of work especially if your adding clear coat but it comes out beautiful if don’t correctly.

@@MOPARRAM-bd9zk I have the paint and clear coat currently sitting in my cart. Lol just not sure if I'll be fine with the matte black. I may just like it as is.

Remove the air filter and air intake tube. And tap into the running light. It's the white wire with orange stripe.... Then your bug shield will light up when you're running lights around and go off when you're running lights off... And I put mine on its own relay but that's up to you

I used this method of connecting the wire. It worked great. Thank you for the instructions. I could not find anywhere to use a fuse tap.

However I have the diamond black pearl so I guess Matt black won't look bad.

My truck is also diamond black pearl. You should be able to get this directly from AVS to match your truck.

@MOPAR RAM 1500 the older one can color match. The newer style didn't have the option when I got it. Still looks good tho
