Great job with a short bar , and so nice that you switched the saw off so we can hear that magestic tree making its last sound as it falls . That's part of how we judge a tree as it goes the fibres that won't let go does it shatter when it strikes the ground or is it an all mighty thud . It's been growing for a long time that's the least respect you can give it , well done .

I do residential tree services in western PA. Thats a nice size red! I love the fresh grain an the acidity smell of them. Biggest red to date is 5'10" on the stump. Ugly line tree. But no rot, no iron. Stay safe out there!

Keith Clark logs are measured in board feet, specifically a thousand board feet or MBF. A board foot is twelve inches by twelves inches by one inch. A forty foot long log with a diameter of twenty four inches on the small end has one thousand board feet. Gross board feet and net board feet are two different things. You’re generally paid on the net board feet.

Old growth does nothing but suck nutrients and stall a stand. Its not getting any taller itll just crowd canopy till it cant hold its limbs up and die. It wont seed much anymore as its spending everything on compartmentalizing wounds.
Now with the tree gone a dozen suckers will grow off that root system and the scarifacing from hauling it out of there will allow seeds to finally make it to the soil and grow.
Logging isnt what it was 100years ago and even if we didnt use any wood products we would still have to have loggers maintain the work that has been done and to conserve what we have.
