  • Talk about brinkmanship. This hard mode run has me constantly right on the edge of disaster and I am loving it. It's worth catching the fight right at the end of the video!
    1.15 is out now, but we will stick with 1.14 for this playthrough.

    That initial two-ship of attack planes at 22:00 are fuggin heroes, taking down a Nomad in one go, then dipping under it, dodging two AA missiles, and sending the rest of their payload at another ship before bugging out straight through the enemy fleet.

    Protip: to find hidden cities in the large expanses of desert, they never spawn within 900km of a known city. so limiting your search vectors to areas within that dead space will bag you a hidden city 99% of the time.

    Must say I'm beginning to take a liking to your Audacitys. Very maneuverable and deadly. Only thing I'm skeptical of is their range. I know they have good range with a tanker, but all of my interceptors have at least 1500km range on their own. You never know when you might need to retask a tanker, so having them be capable of striking or patrolling on their own saves time, money, and lives. Of course, that makes them just a tiny bit more sluggish in combat. But the amount of times I've been able to intercept and destroy a strike group with just two interceptors leaves even me surprised.
    Do consider that if you ever decide to run yet another campaign! I know its just a bit repetitive, but I for one would be thrilled to see what you'll come up with.
    I suggest you retreat your planes if you're not sure they can survive a second attack run. Even if they succeed, retreat them so they won't be shot down at the last minute (like in the soon-to-be infamous Nomad strike).
    The smaller rockets are indeed the best. Their two runs required to deplete their ammo are both a blessing and a curse;
    Curse because they can get shot down,
    Blessing because they can shoot down maneuverable foes after they overheat their engines and because they can show off their sick piloting skills.

    • @Phrosphor
      @Phrosphor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With the changes to marching engines I think light, long range interceptors will be even better and cheaper for another campaign.
      Everything you said about planes holds true as well!

      @vaclavjebavy5118 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Phrosphor Well, for the next campaign I'll try and submit a few of my own designs for consideration. My missile boats and AA ships are the most original out of most Highfleet ships I think.
      I'm currently trying to fit in sensor equipped cruisers and cruisers in general. The Sevastopol, properly equipped, can be deadly on both the tactical and strategic screen, while still being reasonably quick.
      Smaller cruisers can only do a few of those things, but it's still an asset to have a tanker-brawler that can take on problems independently.

    As a ex-proleague counterstrike player,
    i noticed your firing tic, its really common in counterstrike players.
    Moving your mouse slightly after a shot, as if you flicked and clicked, or clicked and lowered your weapon.
    If you're compensating for recoil this makes sense, but i don't think you are?
    WIth the rather random bullet spread it might be better to do some practices of having a steadier shot, and less flick-to-click, so you don't later over compensate to re-aquire a target with your mouse.
    Center the target, drag or lead as needed, and try not to let your mouse finger influence the mouse position.
    (though i am aware you've mentioned some where on this channel that you're uncomfortable with your mouse? maybe that was earlier in the campaign.

    • @Phrosphor
      @Phrosphor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is fascinating! I have played a lot of FPS games over the years, but never anything to a large extent. Certainly nothing that I would assume would build habits in my mouse use. My multiplayer gaming is primarily in RTS rather than FPS. I wonder where I picked it up?!
      I am being more mindful of mouse 'flicking' and hopefully it shows in the latest video, still hard to avoid when dodging 180mm shells and tracking three+ missiles in the air!
      My old mouse was awful though I have a better one now, still clicks a little too loud for recording!
      Thanks for bringing this to light.

    • @Phrosphor
      @Phrosphor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly it's been inconsistent and I am loath to test more in this game. I might do a quick side video to confirm. SOMETIMES they attack first and then the battle launches right after the last strike. SOMETIMES they don't do anything and on reddit people were saying that they had had them JOIN IN with the fight... so who knows? I need to confirm the behavior.

    Honestly I don't even see the point of AP ammo. Sure it can P though A, but in a game where all ships by necessity have gaps in their armor, and almost all default ships have unarmored bottoms prox fuse seems much more useful. Look how quickly you managed to wreck that Gladiator with prox fuse in the final fight compared to the difficulty you were having with AP ammo. Just swoop in under, bang bang bang, enemy destroyed. I really can't see a situation where AP ammo would be superior. Even if you're flying some big cruiser-sized monster ship with two dozen 180mm guns... Sure at that size AP ammo will probably penetrate better than 100mm. But prox fuse will *also* go more damage at that size, and likely find gaps in the enemy's armor, and frankly in enough quantity it'll sandpaper away armor too. And that's without even getting into the utility of prox fuse as an anti-air and anti-missile weapon.
    tl;dr- why ever use AP ammo?
