I did my 10k PB in November wearing the Deviate Elite 2. This is the first time I see professional athletes wearing a shoe that I have, and I am not sure why it makes me feel smug :)

It's a fun coincidence for you seeing these Japanese athletes training in the US and with the language barrier and translating going since you were recently in Japan. After watching your ekiden videos I read Adharanand Finn's The Way Of The Runner - I'm quite interested in Japanese running now thanks to your Ekiden series.
Courtney Frerichs' situation is odd. She left Bowerman much later than the mass exodus. She's still a fully sponsored Nike athlete but training under Amy Craigg w/ Puma Elite. Frerichs' husband also took a coaching position with Puma Elite so I guess their move is fairly permanent. I wonder if she'll make the switch after the Olympics?
Just depends on her contract. They don’t get to randomly decide when they want to switch brands. Typically, contracts are Olympic cycles, 10 year, or 1-2 years. Courtney is probably on an Olympic cycle contract but it won’t expire until the turn of the new year. That’s why there’s always so many announcements in January. I had a contract with 361° a few years ago and even though it was only a “1 year term”, I signed in august of 2017 and had the contract through January of 2019.
please continue making videos like this one. the whole 6 Episode Gotytom Gebreslase series (which was pruduced very well - and don't get me wrong - she is an amazing athlete) is maybe opening your channel to a broader audience, but seriously it's probably not why most of your longer subscribers love the channel. it's for videos like this one!
