- Odds are that you’ve been hearing more and more about cryptocurrency as digital tokens like bitcoin and ethereum have become valuable commodities. Converts (and investors) say that cryptocurrencies built on blockchain technology represent the future of money, finance, and commerce. But skeptics say that digital currencies represent crowd-sourced pyramid schemes or are fuel for another tech bubble.
We met with Olaf Carlson-Wee, who was the first employee at the cryptocurrency broker Coinbase, where he famously took his entire salary in bitcoin. Now, Carlson-Wee runs a hedge fund that deals exclusively in crypto-assets. We talked with Carlson-Wee in San Francisco about money, trust, and how he made his friends rich.

Talking from my own experience as a cryptocurrency trader mostly BITCOIN TRADING as the leading asset, so far I have come to realize that the crypto market is of two sides. As some people will hold and wait for bitcoin to skyrocket so they can sell-off, while others will wait for bitcoin to fall so they can buy at a cheaper rate. However, I see all this worries baseless if they can't yield good profits, my advice still stands on involving in day trading by finding an accurate strategy/daily signals in other to accumulate and grow a very strong portfolio. Cars won't be owned by people typically. They will work in an Uber type network which is on-demand. There will almost always be a car nearby somewhere. Personal cars are already becoming a thing of the past.

Knowledge today should not be defined by a piece of paper. Just like all open source software, including public blockchains like Bitcoin, education is freely accessible. Get out of the 20th century mentality. Many of today's successful people don't even have a college degree, especially in tech and finance. Knowledge defines you, not a certificate that says you have knowledge and for seeking knowledge to manage funds does not need an MBA. It certainly needs a lot of expertise and hardwork, which I am sure this guy has.

Remember...he doesn't have a few BTC...he most likely owns thousands...so, no big deal. I would still borrow against it though.
The growth is impressive, and Bitcoin does have limited supply, and transparency within the blockchain system. However, it is largely disconnected from the 'real' productive economy and its value is driven almost exclusively by sentiment. As a technology of exchange, it is vulnerable like all currencies and commodities to boom/bust cycles. I'm cautiously trying to understand WHY it has increased in value as from the surface, I see the two key drivers as demand-inflating hype and speculation. I'm very happy to be wrong about this and open to finding the deeper structural reasons supporting its value increase if they exist.
Another thing to note: people who favor or argue for BTC always brag how it's "going up in value" and how much money they're making....but that implies they buy low and sell high. Why but an alt-currency such as BTC or anything else using blockchain technology (because they DO have an argument against FIAT), but then when BTC goes UP in nominal terms (in $ terms), they sell and wait for it to go back down to buy more....it's pure speculation. Until people SAVE in bitcoin, lend in bitcoin, get paid in bitcoin and then buy stuff at the store with it, it's all just speculation to me.
Pharaoh on LFS I agree with you completely. The hype is partly being produced by early adopters with the strongest possible vested interest in seeing the currency appreciate.
I recommend watching videos from Andreas Antonopoulos. He understands bitcoin at an exceptional level and explains it very well. Trust me brother i you research more into bitcoin you will not regret it.

I think the pandemic has taught people a big lesson, having one stream of income is not really a good idea cause your job doesn't secure your financial needs. I don't think Bitcoin is comparable to the stock market. It's a technology, so a better analogy would be the Internet. Is the Internet dead? Bitcoin will keep going through boom and bust cycles as adoption waves continue to come, but it's only going up.

Just some questions about cryptocurrencies...
1. What would happen to taxes if bitcoin becomes main currency? No government or anything making me pay right? So I wouldn't be obligated right? So then what would happen to our cities and such?
2. So could anyone (obviously implying you have the same knowledge as everyone else who's done it) create a new cryptocurrency?
3. Would a definite limitation in the amount of bitcoin not cause dramatic fluctuations in price? Doesn't cash print accordingly to adjust for inflation and such?
I'm pretty skeptical about cryptos future, but you never know... if there's money to be made then follow the money of course, but for how long?
