Thanks Yann. Great video and good to see you back. Both overnight trains feature highly on our to do list. Can’t help but think the Caledonian is pricey for what it is but has to be done sometime!
You were missed and are very welcome back! I like your review style, even though this one didn’t convince me of travelling to the UK for the pleasure of riding overnight trains 😁
Great review. In Oct I did London to Ft William seated - it was a killer. Its only after you have paid for the tickets do they tell you that you have to get off the train at 4 in the morning in Edinburgh, stand around in the cold, and get in another coach for the Ft Will leg. I came back broken!
That's rough! I walked through the seated area and saw loads of people lying on the floor where they could find space. Having to get off the train midway sounds like a nightmare.
"Served exclusively in the club car" *puts a cross over "in-room"* That's why the breakfast looked rather disappointing! There's a pull-out table under the sink in the room, by the way. The Club Car isn't priority access to _sleeper_ passengers, but _Club_ sleeper passengers. Classic room holders may not get access if it's full.
Braver man than me unless i was going across the Rockies the thought of 3 days on a train terrifies me, but my view aside looked pretty reasonable the Caledonian breakfast look dire though. At least you've done it and now time to get back into the air.
The full breakfast is only served in the club car, I'm surprised they honoured your request, and it's also why it looked so bad. And there's a table under the sink.
Great stuff! Didn’t expect to see you reviewing sleeper trains … but I’m here for it. ✌️ Your audio quality is great … including on the train … can I ask what mic you’re using? Cheers!
Thank you - nice to do something a little different, glad you enjoyed it! I'm using the wireless mic that comes with the DJI Pocket 2, seems to be doing the trick for now.
Great idea to combine all three services in a single review. I would probably go with the Cal Sleeper (+ earplugs and bottle of champagne, and dining car for breakfast). No mention of coffee… what’s wrong with you? 😉
I think taking one of the highlander routes for the longer journey time and coming with some friends, drinking champagne and then still getting a good night's sleep would be fun. I don't drink coffee but I make up for it in champagne 🫡
That's what I also thought, and I'm sure I've seen this table in other videos but it definitely wasn't there, it seems to have been removed. And while getting pictures from the Caledonian website I noticed the file name for the double room says "double-room-no-table-edit" with the table clearly photoshopped over so I think they might have removed them for some reason?!
I’m sure others have said, but there was literally a table in view that comes out of the sink unit whilst you were moaning about no table. Also the hot breakfast is never available in room so not sure why they even gave it to you like that.
Cool video as a fellow Scotsman I would love to give the Caledonia sleeper a try That’s if it’s still available next year as by the rumours it’s struggling
It was taped shut and there was nothing behind it, seems like it was removed or broken. The website even has a picture named double-room-no-table-edit with the table photoshopped over 🤷♂️
I thought so too but it was either broken or removed - the pictures on the website had the table photoshopped over and the filename is double-room-no-table-edit so something has happened there...
Its a journey i often thought about, but after seeing a few people do it in parts and now watching you do them back to back I honestly think its all wildly over priced for what you get. The breakfasts looked awful, and if I'm honest the pulman fine dining left me relived I hadn't paid that amount of money for it, I can do a really luxury packed lunch for far less myself. Thanks for doing this though as you've saved me quite a lot of money and helped me decide to do the journey but in the day time and via non sleeper service.
It shows how overpriced the Caledonian sleeper is, you only got a one way journey on the Caledonian sleeper but for £40 more you got a first class return with gwr
First class ticket holders get priority access and can reserve a seat up to 2 weeks in advance. Standard ticket holders can approach the Pullman carriage on the day of travel to see if there’s availability.
Definitely not luxurious and the prices were quite high I thought. Probably quite useful for commuters to save on the cost of a London hotel and travel during sleeping time.
Another great video! It’s been years since I’ve done a sleeper, but the old Caledonian Sleeper cars are definitely more comfortable than the new ones they have now. My fave airline and now train reviewer. 🎉
Enterprising to compare both sleeper trains at the same time. Unfortunately sleeper trains, despite the high fares, are usually unprofitable for the operator. I don't know about GWR but Cal Sleeper lost many millions...so much so that former franchise holder Serco handed the keys back to the Scottish gov't who nationalised the service. Yes travellers do complain about Cal Sleeper's ride quality with these Spanish-built trains. GWR's sleeper train rolling stock dates back 40 years and, although old, it has better ride quality.
Interesting to hear I'm not the only one that noticed the ride quality difference. If we could get the Caledonian double beds on the Night Riviera rolling stock we'd have a winner! Thanks for watching.
Much as I enjoyed your video, can I just point out that you didn’t travel the length of the U.K., if you’d started in Inverness (about 170m north of Glasgow), that would have been as far north as you could go on the sleeper, but even that is 120 m south of the top of Scotland…
Glad you enjoyed. I was about 9 miles short of Land's End on the other side too! I wanted to start from Inverness but couldn't find any dates with a double suite for months - seems to be popular on that route.
After two consecutive nights on expensive sleeper trains..."I'm exhausted" is not the best endorsement. The club car is a waste of a carriage on a service that leaves just before midnight and arrives 8 hours later. As if people hang around all evening in Glasgow, Edinburgh or London not eating dinner so they can have haggis at midnight and a cooked breakfast again at 7am. From what I witnessed on the platforms, it's designed for BBC staff and politicians on expenses, and of course high budget tourists and TH-camrs.
Thanks Yann. Great video and good to see you back. Both overnight trains feature highly on our to do list. Can’t help but think the Caledonian is pricey for what it is but has to be done sometime!
Oooh i've been looking for you and here you are. Great to have you back Yann 😁
Thank you!

Appreciate it, thanks for watching!
Always good vlogs.

Fabulous!! All most as good as US Amtrak. As you probably know, I am kidding. Those trains look Beautiful!! Thanks for sharing from San Diego.🌴
Thanks for watching!
Good to see you back!
Cheers!

Great video keep them coming
Thanks - working on the next one now!
Excited for this one, good to see you back mate!
Hope you enjoy it - good to be back!
Swindon Great Western Railway Always looks out for travels like yours

There is a retractable table under the sink I believe in case you do the Caledonian Sleeper again.
@FlyManYann oh wow, that is weird....and inconvenient. Great video though 👍
I’m sure others have said, but there was literally a table in view that comes out of the sink unit whilst you were moaning about no table. Also the hot breakfast is never available in room so not sure why they even gave it to you like that.
Enjoyed your video
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!

Thank you - hope you get to experience it in time!
There're three sleeper trains in the UK: The Royal Scotsman is the third.
the table is under the sink. it pulls out
It was taped shut and there was nothing behind it, seems like it was removed or broken. The website even has a picture named double-room-no-table-edit with the table photoshopped over 🤷♂️
Are you based in London normally? Glad to have you back!
I'm sure it's 3 as you go Aviemore on the other Scotland one.
Nice to see you back, and with a train review, no less 🎉
Good to be back! Hope you enjoy 🚂
Does the table not pull out from under the sink in the cally sleeper
I thought so too but it was either broken or removed - the pictures on the website had the table photoshopped over and the filename is double-room-no-table-edit so something has happened there...

Great video you sound like you've got radio voice
Thanks aha, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Haggas, yeah, that a very Hard no!
It shows how overpriced the Caledonian sleeper is, you only got a one way journey on the Caledonian sleeper but for £40 more you got a first class return with gwr
And the Glasgow route is one of the cheaper ones, I think Fort William was around £420!
Do you need a first class ticket to use the pullman?
First class ticket holders get priority access and can reserve a seat up to 2 weeks in advance. Standard ticket holders can approach the Pullman carriage on the day of travel to see if there’s availability.
I would love to do this but I feel it’s v over charged, nothing really screams luxury on any of them.
Definitely not luxurious and the prices were quite high I thought. Probably quite useful for commuters to save on the cost of a London hotel and travel during sleeping time.
Always good to see a new video from Yann!
yes
Cheers!
My favourite travel youtuber is back!!! 🎉
Thank you! I've got more on the way

Only watch your videos looking for a nip slip 😂 still waiting.
Welcome back interesting but overpriced as is all UK train travel 🍻
Couldn't agree more, I took a standard train to Manchester recently that cost over 3x what my plane ticket to France was 🤦♂️
