    I basically have this system. It works very well, especially for the money. I met Paul Klipsch at Interlochen one summer. I asked him if he really said that what the world needed was a really good 5 Watt amplifier, he said yes! I also remember him having a pocket watch and a wrist watch :-) . He gave a very good lecture.

    I do have the R-51PM with the R-120SW and I have to admit, it's great sound for everything, cellphone, movies, music, and video games ! I'm a Klipsch fan !

      That's the same set up I'm getting this week. I thought maybe the 120 would be too big for my 11' x 15' office that I use to listen to vinyl, but after reading some reviews of the 120, I found that I can always turn it down and adjust volume to match the surroundings and give it an overall "complete" feel. I was going to get the r100SW but seeing that Amazon had the 120 at $298 I pulled the trigger.

    I've been running such a 2.1 setup, and it's great for music. It's was a chore tweaking the sub crossover and toe-in to get the sound right. My setup sits low, and I found that soundstage and imaging improved dramatically with angled speaker stands to minimize the smearing that comes from the floor bounce. I'm still tempted by the aesthetics and multichannel of a soundbar system, but I'm just not a movie enthusiast.

    • @margaritavgonzalez7877
      @margaritavgonzalez7877 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you tweak the crossover for the sub or the speaker's remote so that the speakers only play the highs only and the sub takes care of the low frequencies? Thanks in advance!

    • @Daniel_Ho_Status_101
      @Daniel_Ho_Status_101 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@margaritavgonzalez7877 It's a complex topic, but here goes. There's different kinds of powered subwoofers. The ones that come with a soundbar are designed to only work as a package with that soundbar. The type that can purchased separately works with most stereo loudspeakers, either through speaker cables or RCA cables. These subwoofers have at least 2 knobs: one for volume, and one for crossover. The subwoofer can be adjusted so that it fills in the bass frequencies that the main speakers can't reproduce. You usually need to purchase a AVR (audio video receiver) to make the adjustments you asked about. There's benefits to doing so, but just having a well adjusted subwoofer makes music and movies very enjoyable for a reasonable extra cost.

    • @margaritavgonzalez7877
      @margaritavgonzalez7877 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Daniel_Ho_Status_101 Thanks for replying! so there is no way to make adjustments to this kind of set up shown on this video?

    • @Daniel_Ho_Status_101
      @Daniel_Ho_Status_101 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@margaritavgonzalez7877 The subwoofer featured in the video does allow you to adjust the crossover frequency. There's no single setting that works with every loudspeaker system, so this provides added flexibility. And because the bass is hard to locate, you don't have to locate the subwoofer near the main speakers. I have some other favorite brands, but this KEF setup works with most rooms and ought to sound good to most people.

    I really enjoyed this video. I have been a long time soundbar user who upgraded to the Elevate in October, it was really the only bar that hit all the checkboxes I needed (eARC, LPCM, DTS, Atmos) for a decent price (was $699 at sale). However the software was a complete nightmare (like your video covered). I ended up returning it, and after considering all other high end sound bars, bought a Klipsch Reference 5.1.2 setup (Costco Atmos pack, wireless 12" sub) and an AV Receiver, which was still cheaper than high end Samsung/LG/Sonos soundbars. While it sounds WAY better than the Elevate and "just works" in addition to having a ton of really cool music streaming features, the learning and setup took a lot of time and effort. Worse was the AV community, they're all hobbiests who want to amass $10k+ in speakers and don't have any good advice and really talk down on budgets less than several thousand. During all this it was near impossible to find any comparisons of high end sound bars vs low end AV systems. I think theres a big missing piece of the tech community for low end AV setups that are better than a soundbar at the same price, The money value starts to really make sense once you're comparing to the high end of soundbars. Even if you still pick the soundbar over an AV system, its good to know what alternatives there are. Would love to see more of these types of comparisons.

    My 35 yr old stereo system is lacking bass and I just ordered this R=100SW sub to compliment my 35 yr old Pioneer VSX-5500S receiver with surround sound running a pair of equally old Boston Acoustic 3-way 12 in speakers in the front corner + old Boston Acoustic bookshelf speakers for the rear surround. New LG 55" smart TV => Mixer + mics => receiver => speakers. I didn't hook up the rear speakers until 3 days ago after I read the manual of the receiver that suggested to hook up for the rear surround sound.
    Questions:
    1) Is my Pioneer VSX-5500S receiver outdated for using as a 5.1 surround sound? It can be used as a surround pre-amp and signal to powered speakers even though it has power 100Wx2 + 15Wx2. The remote control still works with many buttons including 3 surround sound modes & delay setting.
    2) I may eventually retire the old speakers, what are my options? My family room is 15.5'W x 15'.

    Once I clicked on your video I thought, " With the fall of the First Order, Ben pursued his true passion as an Audiophile ." Then I saw your reference to beskar, later the SW clip, and knew you've already heard this reference to your likeness enough times, hah! This is now the top of my list for my speaker and sub purchase. Ditching my 5.1 Samsung Sound bar. I'm not deeply familiar with Audio tweaking but have never been able to avoid whisper quiet dialogue then jarring loud sound effects and music! Did all the obvious with tv and sound bar equalizer settings. Checked and tweaked some source settings on my VLC media player as well for some content. Is there a recommendation or link to a video I can reference?? Thanks for the in-depth review!

      Well if I have to join a YT beef. Note it was a comparison video with a troubled SB (Q950T). I certainly didn’t glow over the sound - thought it was lacking a bit compared to the Samsung. I don’t think it’s necessarily worth the price but maybe dollar per dollar it’s worth more than Q950T as the experience is better, not as frustrating, more ways to get music on to the bar, supports LPCM - doesn’t cut out as much, display is on front. It’s certainly a step up from the Elevate and JBL bar 9.1 - so not surprising it costs more than them. I’d say all these soundbars are overpriced really - and budget conscious consumers should wait until they get their 30-50% price cut before buying. So tell Jonas Mathes to chew on that 🔥

    Hello, apprieciate your reviews, what's your opinion on best soundbar to get under $1000??

    • @neverenoughtech
      @neverenoughtech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I probably have not reviewed enough to give you the most informed opinion. I think JBL bar 9.1 probably most elegant with best Atmos effect, best sub, bar sound is not exceptional. Vizio Elevate is a reasonable choice - maybe lacks some refinement in overall sound and sub definition - got wired surrounds which is a bummer. Also can look for Samsung flagship soundbars that have a tendency to really dip in price from time to time. Maybe put a price watch on them.

      If you’re looking to use it mainly for a turntable and not as pieces in a bigger ecosystem I’d want to orient you towards the Klipsch due to price and Klipsch keeping it analogue which you absolutely want when playing records (maybe up it to the 51pms). IMHO, the edifier has extremely muddy midbass. If all you want is bass, sure, add a sub. If you want better sound quality, getting the R-41PM or R-51PM OR (relatively much more expensive) Klipsch the Fives, will be a much better option. Even without a sub. I was always really disappointed by soundbars, I got a Yamaha yas-107 soundbar a few years ago after much research that seemed to indicate that it was the best soundbar under $200. I was pretty unimpressed from the beginning, being new to soundbars, I was expecting much more considering their popularity. Recently I picked up the Edifier s350db 2.1 system for a mere $100 more than the Yamaha. The difference was night and day. I can't see myself ever going back to soundbars, and can't imagine why anyone would use a soundbar. Perhaps the enthusiast will prefer the receiver and 20 speakers positioned around their room, but I wanted a middleground between convenience and audio perfection. I love my s350db, can't imagine anything with a better sound:price ratio, but hey, who knows? Hope springs eternal. Which is why I find myself at this video. Especially since my girlfriend hates the subwoofer, so larger powered bookshelves minus a sub is beginning to sound more appealing. But yeah, great video, entertaining and informative.

      I used that $99 Edifier PC speaker setup for a year. For the price? It's unbeatable. but I couldn't stand the power and tiny front firing port after a while, so I went for the Klipsch 51PM set. They were on sale and frankly they are in another class from these ones. They rule. Just bought a black label 12" sub from them too.
