Its illegal to ride any electric bike on any street or bike trail even bike lanes in my county. You can only go in OHV areas or private property. But if it is "pedal assisted" then you can ride in the bike lanes. Even if you dont need to pedal to make it go, as long as they have pedals like a normal bike you're all good.
In America it’s different in each state but similar, e-bikes are allowed on the street in my state. class 1 is pedal assist up to 20mph class 2 is motor only up to 20mph class 3 is pedal assist up to 28mph
@@Rippinandfishin this is what irks me is that people ride e scooters in the street with no license or plate, but a gas engine isn't given that leeway. At least in my area.
Heres the answer in general, tho it varies by state, most laws will be similar. Read up on your particular state. For me (new york) the bike has to be a low powered bike, 750 watts or less. Cant ride over 25 mph, which at 750 dont worry, your not getting more speed than that. Must have usable pedals. That means class 1 and 2 ebikes are legal. Class 3 ebikes reach or exceed 30 mph. Electric dirt bikes are well over these specs and dont have operable pedals, they do not count as ebikes, they are e dirt bikes, which are viewed under the law as normal dirtbikes/motorcycles. Bikes like talarias and surrons dont visibly pass as dirtbikes and the specs are not well know and thusly can pass as ebikes for now, though technically they are electric dirtbikes. until law enforcement or legislation is more strict on them. My advice, ride like a car, dont stand out with colors or a large bike, have pedals, obey the law, most cops wont notice or care. Start wheelying a bright green dirtbike and you get what you ask for. Your welcome.

@@LuciferAlmighty From what I understand (and my state is CA, so different rules, of course), is that a dirtbike is legal when it has proper signals, a plate, and rearview?
