    I have a question on what is the best way to clean the mirror, when I touched it or when small drops of something fell on to it. Not dust. Blower won't help. Some say that it is better to leave it the way it is, an do not even touch it even with microfiber swab and special liquid for sensors. Some say you may clean it carefully with microfiber alone. Camera is Pentax K1000. Thank you very much for the comment.

    • @FixOldCameras

      The mirror can be gently cleaned as you would a lens. The viewfinder screen CAN NOT be cleaned with any cleaner except distilled water. Try dabbing at the specs with a lint free cleaning swab moistened with distilled water. You can also follow the concentric rings of the VF fresnel lens with the distilled water cleaning swab. Then dry with a blast of filtered air.

    OK in regards to my comments about Olympus OM10 camera shutter speed indicator LED's not working..fixed it and the fix was easy: I have a spray can of 'electronic circuit cleaner'. Very carefully sprayed a bit around the shutter button and the collar around it (which is a pressure-sensitive switch), the ASA/mode selection dial, and the on/off/battery check/self timer switch. After working these parts a bit with a couple judicious applications of the cleaner material: problem solved. Shutter speeds now properly displayed by the LED indicators along the left hand side of the viewfinder. I suspected that a contact point had some hidden gunk buildup or corrosion and the liquid material I used took care of it. So now my $35.00 antique shop find SLR is working just fine.

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately the finder screen in the Pentax ME is fixed. You need to remove the top cover, upper circuits and prism to access the the screen. If you can not get the particular brand, a permanent office glue stick will work on pliable leatherette, on stiff leatherette double sided carpet tape can be used. Contact cements can be used also, but sometimes can be difficult to remove should you need to service the camera again. If you have a specific classic camera gluing issue, other than the attachment of leatherette, than other options can be explored.

    Can anything be done about the shutter speed indicator LED not operating? Shutter on my OM10 seems to be working fine just the camera-selected shutter speed is not indicated along the shutter-speed column on the left hand side of the viewfinder. My OM10 was an antique-shop find everything else on the camera is working fine except no shutter speed indication. Shutter seems to be working properly as it changes speed according to lighting and lens aperture selection.

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This might seem obvious and it is doubtful you overlooked it... but make sure the on/off switch is on. The OM-10 (and the OM-G) will release in the "off" mode but the LED only illuminate when the camera is turned to the "on" mode.

    I recently got an OM-10, and it seems like the mirror isn't sitting in the right position, because with all my OM-mount lenses, it can't bring distant subjects into focus in the viewfinder (i.e. won't infinity focus). This despite those same lenses appearing to focus correctly in my OM-4's viewfinder. Another thing that makes me think the mirror isn't sitting right is that even when I'm able to align the split image in the finder, everything still looks a little blurry. The camera has a good set of batteries in it, and seems to function properly in all other ways. Any idea what the problem might be and whether it's a possible home repair?

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Prop Eaters The felt seals that run along the side might retain enough adhesion to hold the plate in place. Give it a try. However, Pliobond has proven itself as a very good multipurpose adhesive with 36 years of personal application in the repair of cameras. It does have a tendency to leave strings of glue as you pull away the applicator, but with a little practice they can be managed easily. Although, there are likely some good substitutes available.

      Depends on what and where the spot is. Check the surface of the prism along with both sides of the focus screen. If you are seeing it in the viewfinder it will be there or you have separation of the reflective coating of the prism, in that case the prism will usually need to be replaced.
