Thank you so much ! I managed to install GTag Manager on my shopify ! I didn't go through the purchase example because I can't do dummy purchases, but it all seems good as I followed all your instructions precisely. thanks again, i will go and watch other videos
this was a life saver, thankyou! I've been trying to sort out e-commerce tracking for weeks, and this is the first tutorial that's actually explained it
Hey Benjamin, thank for the video, I am following it and downloaded the .json container but when I import to GTM it shows 1 tag, but in your video it shows 2 tags (Add to cart) and (Purchase), can you please advise, thanks
Thank you for making this. One problem...the JSON file I downloaded from your site was very different from what's in the tutorial. So once you get to 10mins of this video you're completely lost. And now I'm worried it's messed up things inside my GTM. Worth checking out because you skip over this bit quickly without much explanation.
Hi Benjamin, Outstanding video! I followed your instructions but it did not fire the Add to Cart event. If you would please clarify or provide some additional guidance I would be very grateful. Thanks.
This was awesome, everything totally seemed to work, the only issue I had was that it didn't fire the Add To Cart trigger - attempted to debug but couldn't find the source issue!
I believe that one out of two should come to GA4d. If its a Purchase, Add to Cart shouldn't be reported and vica versa. What's shown in the video above i.e. both fired for same user is wrong. I think he fixed the file later on. For me currently, both are not firing in debug mode. Very frustated.
Hi Benjamin, when i add that long code to the checkout page in shooify, i notice in google analytics that it captures 2 purchases when purchasing only 1 time (using Paypal)
For everybody who is experiencing issues with add to cart not firing. Same with me. Just pause that tag and create a new one, that will fire when clicking the button "add to cart". There are videos of how to do that. parameters will be button_class and value {{Click Classes}}. Trigger should fire on "some clicks" Click classes contains --> *your button class name*
My tutorial over here - th-cam.com/video/T6x6gwLezNQ/w-d-xo.html covers button tracking, but this won’t give you the same level of detail. To get product details, you will need push to the data layer as I’ve covered.
@@urg454 have you added the code to your button? The top two issues I’ve found for people where it’s not working are; #1 they were using a different theme and didn’t know where to add the code, and #2 they found the add to cart button, but didn’t add the code.
By the way, the step where he says how to add myshopify as referral exclusion, in Google Admin - Data streams, it's not called More Tagging Options anymore. It's now "Configure Tag Settings"
Thanks for your video Ben, it has been very helpful! More helpful than the standard video from google analytics as it doesn't tailor to Shopify. However when it comes to testing GA4 purchase (connecting GA4 with our website and make a test purchase), mine doesn't connect with the "purchase" function. And I tried it 4 times, and this is still the same. Do you have a trouble shooting for this? And mine also don't have the "configure" button in google analytics for some reason. Do you know why this is the case?
Thank you for the video... I follow every step but at the end my analytics don't track the purchase event in analytics debug mode and so I have no conversion event in my data :(
Hi Benjamin, thank you for the video. How does this change if you use one Shopify store and multiple websites. How can you gain the purchase conversion per website vs all purchases on all sites? Is there a way to configure your trigger to be site specific when the Shopify is contained within an on the site?
This was such great info and love the step-by-step. I have one question, when using the pre-configured GTM container do I need to change the name and public ID before importing into Google Tag Manager?
Hi, Can you help me please? at 10:56, when I do this step "Tags" show as 1 new "Triggers" 1 "variables" 9 I'm stuck here. if you can help me it'll be great. Izzy
Dear Benjamin. Thanks for your great and easy to follow along tutorials 🙏🏼 I hope you’ll be able to help me. When I import the container I don’t get the add to cart and purchase tags and no triggers or variables. I only get a Google Analytics| GA4 | Ecommerce tag ??? What am I doing wrong or has the container been changed?
I've updated the preconfigured container to use the method I cover in this video: th-cam.com/video/ClSLdoNKZMI/w-d-xo.html it does include a trigger, but it's single trigger called 'GA4 | Ecommerce Events' that matches any ecommerce events that are pushed to the data layer. And there are variables in there too.
@@LovesData thank you, Benjamin. Would I need to back trace the steps from this video, and just follow the new one? Or can I keep the steps I’ve made in this one?
After the import I wasn't able to preview this new tag. For some reason it doesn't fire, although I assigned it to my GA4 configuration tag. All the scripts were added in theme.liquid and in Shopify settings, but it doesn't fire. Any ideas why is this happening? Thanks
Great video. Very well explained. Just wondering the benefit of installing GTM with shopify when there is the native integration. Another source says you do one or the other, not both. Thanks.

Based on the new GA4 “send e-commerce events” and {{Events}} tracking recently added by Google do we need to update or change the shopify data layer and/or GTM data layer variables or tags (specifically purchase tag)?
