Love this series of getting AK to be interviewed! I got a question for AK. Over the last 10 years, i've built a portfolio of 300k which yields me about 14k a year. Is this yield reasonable? It's only 4+% dividend yield. is there something i did wrongly? to me 4+% is not alot to reach my goal of financial freedom in the near future. It looks more like a good funds for my kids when they grow up. What can I do to maximise the dividend yield so that I can enjoy the rewards?

I like how the circumstances he faced during his time, and he shared fundamentals and strategies that should still work today. But I also see that many of Singapore dividend stocks aren't growing stocks..
What a fantastic video! The best I've seen yet! This should be watched - and studied - by all, especially the young adults who are starting out. As AK said, there is no magic, it takes time, patience and study. And to be in it for the long term - the difference between the investor and the speculator/gambler. Really really good insights from a guy who is not only brilliant but has a great sense of SG humour as well!! Thoroughly enjoyable. You 3 guys really need to "kidnap" AK more often!!

Good video guys. A lot of bantering and funny moments mixed with carefully worded and considered principles which are hallmarks of the Graham/ Doddsville, Buffett, Munger school. I like that AK thinks two / three steps ahead as to how his answer may impact people if he just directly blurts answers. So he contextualizes it well and presents a balanced view. I have also followed AK many years back and it seems he recognizes that those watching this video may not have been " his followers " for a long time, or may just be coming across him for first time so he prefaces with his rationale before answering... to the point he forgets the question 🤣. Theres a lot to learn, and cannot be just from one video, hopefully the audience can take nuggets of wisdom from here and build on it..

While I am not a dividend investor (more towards Peter Lynch's philosophy). I find AK's method and underlying principles for assessing matters align perfectly with those of a great investor.
How to determine valuation? That's the question.. Roe, price to book, NAV
P/E ratio, price to earnings. Divide the current price by EPS, earnings per share.
I’ve been investing into US stocks and crypto only. After hearing AK’s sharing, made me wanna really look into local banks and dividend investing!
Be careful with crypto and US stocks. I would never touch them

Would appreciate if there's future sharing on CPF life!
Not everyone is aware that one needs to have $60,000 in RA ( before payout starts) before being included in CPF Life for Monthly payout for Life , even if one is born after 1958.
Else, would be placed under RSS (Retirement Sum Scheme) with monthly payout ended either when RA depleted or reach age 90, whichever earlier.
I realise that I have utilised too much OA towards purchase of HDB, therefore I may need to top up OA to reach minimum $60k requirement (not enough SA balance) to join CPF Life!

Yes, consistent dividends are one strong indicator of performance.
2m for 2%. I believe can. Because any person buy OCBC during COVID at $8.75 is 9% returns per annum. But he lead a very frugal hard life, not easy to hold when times dififcult.

Hi, I have a question for AK, what is his lifestyle prior to his retirement and currently. Is he married? Does he have children? What about his family background? Does he have to give ‘allowance’ to his parents?
You are an investment expert making $200k a year (great respect). I got burned investing and lost dividends instead.
I only have enough money left after expenses to place into a cheap ETF and an ILP. These plus CPF will be my retirement fund. To even DCA efficiently, you need money to grow money. 45 years old and my gross pay only $2800.
Hi.. I feel like I've seen you commenting on Asian Boss about your salary. Have you thought of signing up for skills upgrading etc through skills future credits? There are data analytics, cyber security jobs that pay above 3k sgd at least. You're applying these from given govt money.

What a first banger question! Definitely not going get an answer from AK lah. Conservatively speaking to reach the approx. 200k dividend per year would take at least SGD5m-6m at 4.0% average annual yield across the portfolio. Quite sure he holds a whole lot more and that he is just being conservative.
if you look at the stocks he declared in his blog, the dividend is substantially higher than 4%

What’s your opinion on fixed term or perpetual corporate bonds? Can chat about it?
I like them for their coupons and when there's a credit line extended on them, gives alot of flexibility. I personally prefer long maturity high investment grade issues. Lesser coupons but provides peace of mind.

Yes, a very high yield is a red flag. It's important to do your research on the business fundamentals and the reason(s) why the yield is high.
