    Another big theme I notice in his songs is space. He leaves a lot of breathing room for instrumentation and vocals which adds to the dreamy sound.

    Yo super insightful vid, especially the part abt lyrics.
    Just a note abt the chords at 3:08: those 7th and 9th chords are dominant 7ths, not major 7ths, and in jazz your 11 chord would be called a sus7 or sus13 chord. “11” chords are normally #11 chords which are really cool.
    Another signature thing I’ve heard King Krule do a lot is throw in a lot of passing half diminished chords (I think those passing chords after the Amaj7 in Underclass might have a half dim but id have to transcribe to know for sure).
    Sick vid all around tho dawg

      Thanks Sawyer! Appreciate the feedback and the help! Do you have a chord book or something I can buy so I will have all the chord shapes for guitar. Or is using the CAGED chord shapes more than enough?

    • @ritualdrowning
      @ritualdrowning ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’m sure the book you have has everything you need. Usually dominant chords are denoted as just the root and a ‘7’ or ‘9’ (E7, A9, etc.) This is different from a major 7th, which is labeled with “maj7” (or sometimes a little triangle).

    • @michael.a.m
      @michael.a.m ปีที่แล้ว +3

      "Sus" in jazz refers specifically to a chord with no 3rd.
      "11" is used when you want to hear the 4th AND the 3rd.

    Yo nice video! I'm not tryna be that guy but the chords you were playing were actually dominant chords, different major extensions (still very usable but not quite the dreamy ones you meant). You were really close though it's only a 1 note difference. A good major7 shape on the A string would be x5767x or x57675 and for the 9th chord you just have to move the highest note up 1 fret to make it a Major9 and you're good (use your pinky). Again, i really mean this in a supportive way. Keep up the videos bro!

      No worries bro you are helping me and the others who watch this video.
      I completely forgot about the chords you mentioned while making the video even though I use them myself.
      I was following the chords in the book. Do you know why the chord book would show me those chords instead of the ones you mentioned?
      Also, Thanks for your comment!

    • @Bleachless666
      @Bleachless666 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brokenenglishprod The chord names can be confusing but the book probably says D7 & D9, when you're looking for the DMaj7 & DMaj9. They're just different chords. The Major7 & Major9 should just be on a different page. Thanks for being nice about my feedback

    GREAT VIDEO DUDE!!!!!!! You know you've made a great video when it seems like it is only 30 seconds long. I'll have to wait until later to to a deep dive in the longer one.
    I first SAW The King before I heard his music. I kind of chuckled because he looks similar to my youngest son, Tim, even the red hair. So I was intrigued. Then when I listened I knew I found a compadre, I love doing things in the odd number realm. Also since he seems like he WANTS to be a little different for the sake of being different, I would love to talk to this dude for a few hours.
    Anything musically off-putting is headed on the correct trail. We are too entrenched in poppy sounding stuff.... a guy like King Krule comes along and shows us that not all the world is sunny-poppy sounding things. A agree with the lyric breakdown. Some of his stuff is looking at a situation as a casual, but invested, third party observer.
    You should film a walk and talk! I love seeing new streets and locations. One of my new favorite wind-down channels is a dude who walks around South Korea with a camera strapped to his chest. I find it very calming.
