Two execs in one day plus 10% of the global workforce isn't a coincidence. Something BIG is happening behind the scenes, imho. My Spidey Sense™️ says it's a major departure from the past. My impression of Elon is that he's not a people person, he's a TALENT person. He hires talent, which happens to come with a person attached. When that talent isn't absolutely required I feel he's quick to let people go, without much consideration for the human cost. He's a tough wage master, but that's what makes Tesla unique. They demand 110% until there's no more left to give. They're the SEAL team of corporate America.

Drew Baglino made it clear on Autonomy day that he didn’t see a near-term use case for Robotaxi.
Walter Isaacson’s book describes how executives pleaded with Elon to develop the $25k car in parallel with the robotaxi, against Elon’s firm demand.
Now that the prioritisation of robotaxi is confirmed, I can imagine this was a red line for at least Drew, if not Rohan. They know what the people and the business want and need. Elon wants Tesla to fly before it can run.

It is a no brainer to go with a subscription vs buying FSD outright. Maybe if you are running a robotaxi business buy it outright else just use subscription. The early adopters must be furious. The best version is available at a fraction of what they paid.

    • @markthomas7279
      @markthomas7279 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

Robotaxi will be revenue share. It will not be a purchase. The current $99 is a DEAL for SUPERVISED version. The price will almost certainly rise. The Robotaxi opportunity is in miles driven and that's how it will be pursued both with partners and direct. What needed now is miles driven on FSD. This offer gets the job done. But it's a variable agreement so it will vary. Will it vary up or down??? I'll leave that to you to figure out.

    • @737smartin
      @737smartin 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

It’s not a no brainer at all it’s a crapshoot either way. There are many, many ways this can play out.
      The extremes:
Case 1. Robotaxi is a smashing success, and what Tesla has said may happen does…FSD skyrockets in worth. Tesla increases FSD price accordingly. Owners can choose to operate their cars on the network, profiting $3K a month…roughly $30K a year OR they can sell their used M3s with FSD for $120K, easily recouping their original expense with profit. Those paying month to month see the monthly fee for FSD skyrocket from $100 a month to $500, to $2500, as Tesla would prefer to keep and operate the vast majority of robotaxis in house.
Case 2: FSD is worth having but can’t win vs the “tyranny of the 9s.” Robotaxi can’t operate autonomously and FSD peaks as a driver assist system. The monthly subscription never increases. Those who paid $12 or $15K for it realize they’ll practically never recoup that much.

For those beliving Tesla is a car company, scrapping or delaying the $25k car must be a catastrophic decision, if that is the case.
But focusing on the RoboTaxi on the next generation platform might be furthering also that car.
It should be a multi-vehicle platform. Doing one has to be furthering them all.
The change in direction is short-term towards RoboTaxi, which means that Musk thinks FSD is ready for that in perhaps a year.
But I think the long-term change is towards Optimus. We haven't gotten much news about it for some time. But something might be happening behind the scenes. I think it is, and that Musk has decided not to give anything about it away to the competition.
I really don't understand why the $25k car would be put on hold, though!
I would have thought both that and the RoboTaxi could be done pretty much simultanously.

If Tesla solved FSD level 5, I don't understand why Tesla would ever sell one of their cars ever again. They could simply own and operate the fleet of robo taxies on their own they don't need anyone else, at that point they would undercut every other form of transportation on price and dominate the transportation sector raking in massive profits. The 25k model Is just a complete waste of time if FSD is solved. Think about it, ultra cheap on demand transportation, why would most people ever want the expense of vehicle ownership. Most people buying a 25k vehicle are simply interested in basic reliable transportation from point a to b.

Dillon, I have been driving with FSD during the free trial period. Since I am a fanboy and stock holder, I hope FSD matures soon. However, I am not willing to pay for it until it is a better and safer driver than I am. Unfortunately, now it is like a 15 year old student driver on a first lesson. There are many things it does that annoy and scare me. I intend to compile a comprehensive list and send it to Tesla.

I completely agree with you on FSD Transfers Dillon, underlined by the drop in monthly licensing. My thoughts are early adopters who have done a lot to help train and develop and provide data for FSD could be allowed to to transfer up until the product reaches it's claimed feature set. Maybe Tesla are arguing that "Supervised" is the goal? In my opinion, it should be "Unsupervised" capable. ie if the owner pays whatever the insurance premium is for Tesla to be responsible for the vehicle, the software is unsupervised and Tesla are responsible. If users don't want to opt for this, they think it's cheaper not to have this, then, its their choice, but at least the software is Autonomous FSD capable and just as capable if the user is using it supervised.

Got V12 over the weekend. Complete game changer. Been driving FSD for 3.5 years. This is just like another driver. Great turns, quicker lane changes. On surface streets I usually don't think about the speed, it's slow around my tight turns crowded hilltop. If I accelerate a little, it hangs on to that. It just drives. I cannot understand why any thinking person would buy any other car. A Tesla will last for decades, it drives itself, now for only $99/month (yeah Yahsu!). I can see this being the first widely sold version of FSD.
My friend today said she lives in an apartment, no charger possible. I pointed out for her driving, one trip to a Supercharger each week, charge while she does her weekly shopping, and in most of California Supercharger rates are the same or less than what the (corrupt) utilities are charging us at home. (My trip to Texas last week $0.31/kWh Supercharger, at my home $0.35/kWh)

Tesla should always let you transfer FSD, as it is so expensvie that people wont buy it a second time.
So then you didnt get the features and you want to buy a new car.. Then if they let you transfer it, its a bonus.
If you cant transfer it, it means you lost the money... And then maybe are more open to switching brands as you then calculate loss of FSD value into the car deprecation.

Rohan seems like it could have been asked for possibly directly because of his taking on the PR role for tesla. Was he asked to do such? Just theorizing, i think we all liked him and his information no doubt.
The good news is that while drew was a baller, he also has been in the industry for a long while. this is great for knowledge, but not necessarily great for original thought. I think it makes since to shake things up every so often, and tesla has the best talent to pull from.

A big reason I didn't buy a Tesla or lease one was the FSD policy was absurd: I prepay for a feature I would never use because the lease would expire or I would trade up the car before it was ready. This seemed too punishing to early adopters to feel good about paying three times more than I've ever paid for a car, mainly to help Tesla. If I didn't want to support the company I would not even consider a new car, given steep depreciation.

Uggg! I don’t follow sports anymore, but Tesla loosing superstars is as painful to me as major league teams loosing their key players. However, I worked long hours under sustained pressure for many years and loved the challenge, but there does come a time when you can’t spool up for the next sustained push and the time comes to pull the rip cord. Everyone has to deal with that reality. Tesla has such a deep lineup of superstars that when one, regrettably, reaches that point, there is a reasonable chance that they have been grooming their replacement along the way. Nonetheless, they will all be greatly missed when that cord is eventually liberated. 😢😢😢

I bought a Model Y Long Range 2 weeks ago. It came with 12.3.3 FSD. I've followed Tesla for 7 years, but this is the first one I've owned. FSD isn't perfect, but I was truly impressed by what it could do. I am actually considering spending the $12,000 to buy it. On 04/14 I got the upgrade to 12.3.4.
My biggest problem with 12.3.3 was that Chill wasn't recogniized by FSD. Every time the Speed Limit changed the "Jack Rabbit" in FSD took off. It was very unsettling. After the upgrade to 12.3.4 the "Jack Rabbit" had been tamed SOME. Not as bad, but still not smooth.
However, on 12.3.3 if the Speed Limit dropped the car slowed right away. That isn't true with 12.3.4. It will slow, but not near fast enough. Also, on 4 lane roads, if the 2 lane section splits into one straight and one turning and navigation said it needed to go straight, it wouldn't move to the left lane so it would do so.
As reported by others, it is slow to move into the turn lane when it needs to turn and can get blocked out by traffic.
It also, doesn't recognize a car that is half-way between lanes. I had to do an emergency stop to avoid an accident because of this. I haven't had a problem with it not stopping when the car is fully in the lane.
Regardless of the above, I really like FSD. The slow down on Speed Limit change will be fixed and the human-like driving of FSD vs AutoPilot is awesome. I've tried straight AutoPilot several times, but it is squirreley, often going back and forth while trying to decide which lane it wants to be in. I think, if I end up not purchasing FSD that I'll just drive it manually. Which means, I'll probably shell out the bucks for it.

1:34 what Tesla should do, attach FSD to the person that bought it, and not to the car! It’s so ridiculous, that especially OG buyers have been screwed over the years and Tesla now *graciously* allows transfers for a limited time. But that means forcing people to buy a new car then and there, which may not be in their budget.
Equally is it a piece of impudence to offer *FSD* outside the US where it actually can’t be legally put on the roads. Take the EU for instance, FSD is offered for 7.5k €, that gives you Navigate on Autopilot, Lane change assistance, Autopark, (Smart) Summon, and Stop sign and Traffic light detection (I assume it means that it will actually halt, as even with standard autopilot you get an audible ding for traffic lights). All but the last feature is also included in Enhanced Autopilot for 3.8k €, but Tesla wants almost double that right now for FSD and all you get is Stop signs and Traffic light …. And who knows how long it will take the EU to really make regulations allowing full autonomy; that piece of regulation going live in August will still require drivers to confirm any choice a autonomous car wants to make and it will also not remove the ridiculous regulation of max steering angle, so the cars will continue to drive like a tortoise around bends.

    FSD 12.3.4 :
One commute : 2 x 25 minutes city driving with 2 interventions : 1. for a construction zone with a sign guy., 2. to avoid hitting a raised white line barrier.
    One unnecessary lane change.
It accelerates faster and slows slower than I prefer.
I hope someday it will avoid pot holes.

    • @bearcubdaycare
      @bearcubdaycare 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      For me on v12.3.4:
      - approaching a needed U turn per the navigation, instead of preparing to turn into the left turn lane it's approaching, FSD tries to change to the right travel lane. Consistently, on several occasions.
      - when in the median for the U turn, blocks opposing traffic (until I intervene)
      - needing to turn right 100m after a stop light, it gets in the right turn only lane 150m before the light, on multiple occasions
      - lots of crossing of solid white lines, instead of waiting for the dashed line
      - lots of hewing so close to the inside of the lane on turns that I think it's possibly on the lane markings
      - didn't stop for running deer about to cross the road
      - doesn't avoid potholes, even deep ones, nor places where it would ground out
      - signaling to enter central two way turn lane way too early, then thinking better of it, on repeated occasions
      - trouble identifying which left turn in a complicated area (side road has median, and there's also an entrance to a parking lot)
      - trouble figuring out what to do leaving parking lot into cul-de-sac, almost always
      - better advance stopping for red or yellow lights than v11, but still sometimes later than I like on downhills in Colorado on days that have had snow
      - sometimes finds my driveway, sometimes doesn't
      - as an aside, strange navigation routings, which seems new
      - lots and lots of hesitation even when entering a clear road, which is a problem entering the sometimes quite busy highway near here, for which gaps can be limited
      - various lane choice hesitation, not recognizing right turn lane right away
It's getting too frustrating to keep trying.
AutoPark mostly works, except at the cafe, where there's a concrete barrier 3ft/1m before the curb (to keep vehicles from encroaching on outdoor eating area).

I got v12.3.4 last week and have been underwhelmed. The car makes many mistakes on each drive. But I'm hoping the rate of improvement will be mich faster than in v11. It's at least on par with v11. Having said that, in the few times it does things right, it is much smoother and more confident.

It's odd reading comments from you, and then from others who say it's fantastic. It's hard to make sense of such differing viewpoints.

There should be some kind of award for Tesla employees for each layoff they survive. Congrats.

@@billweberx Rewards generally suck. Unless they are a chunk of stock.

The problem is, even IF Robotaxi is successful, there is STILL a need for a $25K compact car. This is what Elon seems to be missing.

Dillon, any idea how I can trigger the FSD free trial? My son and sister both got it at the beginning of the month.

Ver 12 is hands above ver 11. Drove 1000 miles to Florida from Ohio on ver 11 and 1000 miles back on ver 12. Still needs to be supervised. I use it all the time now.
