As someone who owns not one single black garment or accessory, I am hereeee for brown being a trending color because it means there is finally a wider selection of brown options from which to choose. I think that’s the real beauty of specific color trends, the opportunity to invest in pieces in colors that are otherwise difficult to find. I await with longing for ochre and Indian cutch red-brown to trend!
Me too! I am constantly annoyed by color ranges that only include black and stark white as neutrals. Do they not know that those colors do NOT look great on about half the population? Browns, creams and ivories for me!
I also love brown as I used to have brown hair but now am silver …so I get to have my OG palate back. I’m here for it! It’s funny b/c browns can have a yellow tone (not optimal for me) but those rich deep tones can really sing…sooooo lovely
Please do a reflection on the years you have been on TH-cam and how your fashion has evolved with your city location, trends, income, life stages etc. Could be fun. 😊
My partner was in the room while I was watching this and now we can’t stop saying “you’ll reap the benefits all winter long” to each other as a catch-all response. We’re Australian so it is Summer rn.
The amount of publications that seem to be using AI to write articles now is astonishing! They need to at least edit it. I am anything but the grammar police but when I need to read a sentence multiple times to try and understand it Yikes!
I have worn a grey knit dress with oxblood tights and my new beautiful, tailored burgundy coat pink sunglasses, burgundy lipstick, black scarf and doc martens, and I got sooo many compliments! I loved the combo. I also love it with sky blue and navy.
Buy your forever fashion items when they are available. I am still triggered by memories of only being able to buy pants with muffin-top waists. The Horror...
I am sooooo here for corduroy. I love that we also have earthy and jewel tones remaining from previous years/seasons, so we get earthy and jewel toned corduroy. Which is the best.
The corduroy is the only thing I have even the slightest interest in, because I’ve been dying to sew something in cold weather appropriate fabric. A nice fine wale corduroy in a rich earth tone would be a nice alternative to jeans all the time.
I have gravitated towards black my entire life, but this year I became enthralled with dark cool browns. I especially like wearing them with green and grey, airing towards an earthy color pallet. It looks so chic and fresh, not as austere as black. But I took so long to move past the mental hang ups as well. I'm also recently toying with navy after avoiding it ever since Catholic school enforced uniforms.
I've been trying to get away from as much black too. This year there has been lots of deep coffee brown which pairs well with all the olive & burgundy/wine/ plum I have.
I always thought that these articles were sometimes confusing because french is my first language…Oh I am so happy to learn that my English is better than I thought lol
I'm so happy to see the Chocolate Brown trend because it means I can finally be choosy about which version of brown best suits me. I also love velvet & suede, at least in high quality, sophisticated items. I definitely love the Bohemian Countryside stuff, and it could be argued that I have a fair amount of it already, but this urban creature can only pull of a hint of it in an outfit. I finally bought, after over ten years of searching, a pair of comfy but chic riding boots. (I even bought an identical pair 2 years ago and someone stole them from my porch.) Yes, I will be wearing them until the cobbler refuses to repair or resole them again!
Oxblood. It is my color every year, so this is the time to stock up. My burgandy patent leather ballet flats are gone. The cobbler said they cannot be resoled. Sad. However, this is definitely the year I can get them replaced along with a couple of other friends. I'm seriously considering having a pair of boots made by Adelante Shoe company, long term investment. I am probably going to do it for the boot. I'll just find an already made ballet flat. Wish me luck!
Oh I loved chocolate brown in the 90s & am thrilled for the return. It's even better now that I found my color season is deep autumn. Dark brown is "my" color. Black is always in abundance. Thankful for the return of chocolate!
Personally I am thrilled to see more brown & green options. It took several years for me to find a camel wool coat & a caramel wool coat. Everything was black or grey for soooo long
Just looking at your complexion, hair, and eyes -- Hannah -- I'm guessing the chocolate brown would look SO flattering on you. But, I understand the ambivalence you have with it. Any dark brown added to your wardrobe would be difficult to integrate with your black garments so that hurts its versatility. I think dark brown, which might look a little old (or even dingy) by itself, would look classic and sheik on you. I hope you fall deeper into its spell, and we'll get to see rich, textured, and deep brown framing your face this 2025 and on! Thank you always for your eloquent and sensible fashion takes. Your fashion videos are an instant click and like!
Love your commentary as always! I do wonder WHO is wearing the see through chiffon bias cut bordeaux slip dress, complete with panties showing, to the OFFICE? I mean - what sort of place do you work? 🤣
"If it really is you..." it's me! It was very funny seeing my patent burgundy Oxfords go completely uncommented upon for two years and then getting two compliments on them in as many weeks this past October as everybody else suddenly started collectively noticing the color. If olive green is next (and I'm seeing plenty of it already), then I'm truly just winning. *Finally* my best and beloved colors are coming back around after so many years of the pastels and beiges that make me look like a corpse!
"Know thyself" is so key! All the images of the wine colored work wear are gorgeous! I adore them! ... But I don't wear red tones. I know they don't work with my coloring! So I will just admire the trend from afar. Chocolate brown on the other hand, welcome in my closet anytime! Will definitely be on the lookout for some chocolate brown slacks this season that I can continue to wear for many winters to come
Hannah, thank you for the much needed escapism as of late. I’m an Angeleno and it is has been a devastating week. Viewers, please donate your time, resources, and money if you are able. ❤
I've donated to an animal shelter, I couldn't bear to be displaced and have to separate myself from my companion animals, they're family to me. I wish I could help more but I'm very poor myself and animals are defenceless and totally dependent on their humans. I can't even imagine what you must be going through. I wish you all the best for the future.
“Know thyself” is going to be my new mantra around trends, I LOVE that!! I’m totally hopping on the chocolate brown train because it’s the best dark neutral for me, more than navy and black, so I will be taking full advantage of this trend while it lasts 🙋♀️
Love these trend videos! I, too, find the chocolate brown trend fascinating. (I am old enough that it reminds me of the 70s.) Also, in my life, bordeaux/wine/burgundy has always been timeless.
I immediately loved when chocolate brown became a thing cause for me it’s so hard to find a brown that suits my skin. In my opinion chocolate brown is the new black (and it goes so well with black!)
Grrrrl can I just say, I adore your vocabulary…so refreshing. And the way you purrrrrr over your words, thanks for giving us permission to have some intelligence! So artistic as well. What a sensibility, great content every time.
I feel like there are certain people who look really good in dark chocolate brown and gravitate towards it as their substitute for black. It's time for them to stock up. I've found a fair amount of ivory this winter and I wear that way more than black.
I honestly think that chocolate brown would suit you so much with your colouring. I know typically you go for black but a chocolate brown coat or top even would be stunning. Maybe you could borrow a piece from a friend or rent something so you can get a taste of the trend and as a bonus you don't clutter up your stunning wardrobe ❤ Love your content Hannah! Hope you had a fantastic Christmas and start to the NY
Love your thoughts! I scored vintage chocolate brown wide leg suede pants in my size, tall even, on eBay and I am so stoked 🙂 My colours lean towards the "autumn" range so this is awesome that it is on trend.
i absolutely adore listening to you speak! the way you speak about things, your insights, the words you choose and the actual sound of your voice are both soothing and curiously intriguing at the same time -AND you make me giggle on the regular with your observations! you are my favorite find of 2024☺️
oh! as an elderly redhead i am SO HAPPY FOR BROWN not camel, not mocca but BROWN. Black on me (strawberry blond) is too severe now. but dear dear brown is so comforting to wear. i am petite so allllll one color is fabulous. Happy new year to you and your family. xo
im so excited that level 4 oxblood and minimalist accessories are trending cause that means next year I can get some perfect pieces on the second hand market. love these videos so I can make a note for future me. also I'm a all black with occasional hints of deep red (wine/oxblood/bordoux whatever its called that day) so I'm thrilled lol
My brain going through this article: why can't I wear plaid pants with a sweater with a scarf neckline... wait what is going on with this sentence? Yet another AI article without editing. Oh let us sass the rest of this. Festive sweater, my dear that is a half a sweater, half a sheep trying to escape and get back to a field.
I have always loved the oxblood color. It started with Clinique Black Honey lip gloss, then Lauren by Ralph Lauren. By the late 90's it was the color of my bridesmaids dresses. Today i still have a 30 year old Coach satchel, a clutch with gold buckle, a pair of witchy looking loafers and two modestly cut dresses all in the shade. when i am really old i plan to wear them all at the same time, LOL Love your content.
As someone who was born in the late 50s and was in high school in the oh-so-very chocolate-brown 70s, I will never be able to wear that color again as long as I live. It feels trendy in the worst way, and has always felt like a color that’s second class in comparison to black or navy. (“Oh my dear, that’s a lovely coat, but you couldn’t afford to get the black one?”) You’d laugh if you met me - I’m absolutely the least fashion-conscious person going - but chocolate brown is a trauma trigger or something. 🙄 No fashion sense, but notice how correctly I used hyphens. 😂
I ordered a chocolate brown suit this week, wide leg pants and double breasted jacket in a thick, heavy satin (natural fiber bc I sweat and I refuse to wear any amount of polyester these days). I pretty much only wear suits when I’m not going to the gym or furiously running around so it makes sense in that regard. I also have this weird interest in owning a suit in every color family bc I love a colorful suit/an interesting colored suit. So when I saw that softly glossy, chocolate brown suit I just thought wow, I love that. The color is like the all black of all brown if that makes sense haha. Deep. Rich. Cool toned. Like dark chocolate. I’m excited for it. And I’ve never been excited for brown clothing before. It’s kind of strange now that I think about it.
My one winter coat (bought 2020 to move to the east coast) has a scarf neckline- it is beautiful, but it must be said, super annoying to put on. I feel like we’re in a slight tussle every time. I love it, and get lots of compliments and I had it made to measure for way less than any of these would be selling for (visible art, on Etsy). And it perfectly matches my style. I’m not annoyed enough to stop wearing it. However, I will not lie to you, it is annoying. Be warned. It better be perfect-for-you in every other way 😉
I had the same inner monologue in a split second at that use of “monochromatic” and then you said it all. Delightful! (Also that shade of eyeshadow is 💯. Very chic!)
Hello! Is there a place we can buy your book from that isn't Amazon? I don't mind getting ebooks from them, but I like buying physical books from other booksellers when the option is available.
About the "dust bunny sweater". What I saw was a collared knit that went from spun, knitted yarn down to raw fleece(straight off the sheep). Genius! But I would think it would be lost on people who don't know how yarn is made. I gotta recreate this! Your videos are my early morning knitting companions and I appreciate them so much. Thank you!
Hannah, I’m sure you could whip the editorial missteps into shape …in the five minutes before breakfast. If they pay well, you should submit your CV. If you want something expensive and classic and it’s a widely available trend, it will be at really reduced price in the spring.
Ooh I love the gray with wine idea!!! Burgundy is my favorite color and I have a monochromatic skirt-tights-boots combo I love to wear with different tops. I think I'll do gray turtleneck this week to try it out!
I have leaned in to the oxblood and chocolate brown this season. I bought a pair of pointy Sam Edelman heels with a modern pompadour square heel and an oxblood matching leather belt. I was temped to find a matching purse, but the ones I have found have hardware on them or are not minimalist enough OR are not oxblood, so I’m opting for the 3 bean salad approach. Your video came just in time because I was trying to match my belt and shoes with a purse and struggling. I’m also sampling tops with an asymmetrical yet demure off-the-shoulder vibe. Wish I could share a pic here, but no.
"It's the heyday of the kind of accessories I like" HELLO MEET YOUR OPPOSITE, heh. I've been desperately searching for a new bag -- hit up my usuals, searched out new labels, pushed my max price up to a near-eye-watering level aaaaand nothin'. Holy cow I miss, like, 2005-2010, which in retrospect (or maybe my own warped perspective bc that's when I started paying more attention?) was More Fun Bags Than You Could Shake A Stick At. Incredible saturated hues! Metallics! Studs! Big chrome hardware! Pleats and folds and topstitching and interesting shapes, including giiiaaaant ones! Now everything see is a tiny clutch (tan, black) or a boring box (tan, black, grey). But my shopping was eventually successful, because bitcheeeessss I own a sewing machine and have the [rudimentary] skills to use it, so I'm buying a half-side of screaming royal blue patent leather, and possibly also this pebbled violet metallic, and definitely also the black patent faux croc.
That The Row coat gives Dior New Look (50s feminine)- especially with the pointy heels and that particular length. And I feel EXACTLY the way you do about chocolate brown. My past aversion to it looking dated has been eliminated by its recent trendiness. I'm having a similar response toseeing "bordeaux" or "oxblood" everywhere. I've hated "maroon" since childhood and refused to wear it or even have it in my homewares, yet suddenly I'm getting on board. I always think of your "raisin"-colored linen sheets and that feels most appealing at this point. Tones with more plum and less red are easing me into it, especially as the current context reframes it in my eyes (as with all trends, I suppose). Loving these fashion videos-- keep 'em comin'!
I’m so surprised you avoided the chocolate brown! Similar age, pale complexion and I was always told black was too severe for me so I had no choice but to pick brown or be told I looked ghostly lol
The bordeaux trend strikes me less as being about office attire, and about typically more expensive pieces like blazers, shoes, coats. Where once might tend to hedge their bets and go for black or grey
I feel like the attached scarf trend could be more easily pulled from your existing wardrobe if you have a top and scarf that match and can blend together. Probably better if they match perfectly but I bet you could still get a cool effect with same color families too. Then you can pair it with monochromatic pants, jeans and/or boots :)
When I noticed suede was all the rage, I checked my closet and found my long suede coat hiding in the back of my closet that I seriously thought I had donated. So excited to bring it back to life this winter. ❤
I'm old enough to have worn a coat with a scarf neckline in my late teens in the late 80s/early 90s. I do remember it not being massively useful on those winter days when you didn't need really a scarf and it either had to flap around pointlessly or I had to suffer a really sweaty neck for the sake of "style".
The unhinged sweater with a scarf neckline could be an inspiration for me as a knitter. I love bulky shawls and chunky sweaters - a chunky sweater with an interesting scarf neckline sounds like the best of both worlds. I head to ravelry right now to look for patterns.
I will be buying a wine colored bag, and copying that exact outfit of the dark blue denim, white oversize collard shirt tucked in with the belt. I love the crimson red trend and may play with pairing it with gray also. I'm interested in the scarf necklines. I have always loved a cowl neck. But also I have actual scarves I could wear monochromatically and get the look without buying anything. I may keep an eye out for a few items in the suede, corduroy and velvet textures... velvet could even tie into the festive daywear category. I love most of these trends, I must say! Also your hair is awesome lately! I must know details of how it's cut and styled! I suspect you've probably posted about that already. I was wondering, too, if you've ever showed your clothing care routine?
My only nod to boho chic will be to wear a flowy feminine pussybow blouse with my jeans, skirts, etc. I have several vintage ones from Hobbs, Primark (!), and other shops that have closed down, they've been in my wardrobe forever. I'm petite and too many frllls would swamp me, less is more.
It struck me that how you feel about chocolate suede is how I see the scarf coat. That type of coat was trending when I was much younger and now seems so dated to me. Although I can see the sculptural appeal of the coat I love scarves, silk, cotton.... and how they can add texture and colour. I appreciate your interpretation of trends and relating that to what we already own, like or aspire to.
I think burgundy is a good trend to buy something for because it may not be trending next winter but it will be trending again some day. That colour always comes back for Autumn/Winter, you just have to wait for it.
Increasingly, I feel like my outfits are great, but my environments and activities are lacking. Do I lack the enthusiasm to start every day by posing for selfies in front of bohemian coffee shops? I am dressing better to wash dishes and do laundry, and I do run into condo neighbors, but my fashion energy seems wasted on my lack-luster life. I felt more in sync when I was dressing to work downtown, but it's been confusing since I retired. And winter suppresses fashion-worthy experiences without outdoor festivals, nature walks and sidewalk sales. Grocery shopping has maintained high standards since covid and only going to the bank after hair appointments feels legitimate, but something is missing. Am I missing the point of finding fashion-hygge moments that make ordinary life special? Please give us a listicle of ways to curate everyday experience that rises to the thoughtfulness of everyday fashion. 🥳
Girl I feel you. I work from home, do basically all of my "fun" shopping online, get groceries delivered...so I leave the house MAYBE once a week to go do bar trivia or out for lunch/dinner, and MAYBE I have an actual meeting or something once a month (and half the time those are via Zoom, so it's kinda pointless to do anything besides basic makeup and take my hair out of its sock bun and do some half-assed styling). Just gave myself a glorious new gel manicure last night (bruisey oil-slick shimmer, with a little coral-orange chrome glow splotches) and have a fab new DVN lipstick and ... I guess it's good that I get ample enjoyment out of these things all on my own, bc the odds of anyone else seeing much of them is loooowwww. :/ I'm seriously considering inviting some girlies over for a "let's play with makeup and do manicures and have a cocktail" party, just to be able to share this joy?
I've changed my style in retirement for a long list of reasons. Now that I am partially handicapped and overweight, I do the best I can but at home it seems pointless to dress to my lifelong level when I am just going to be at the computer, reading a book or cleaning the house. Since COVID, I am into wearing black cotton leggings and tops with sweaters in winter. It is not very exciting and somehow contributes a general feeling that things are not right. Comfort is my number one thought most of the time.
I have an oversize just-below-the-knee length faux shearling cream coat by Caractère that I bought on sale a couple summers ago and I love it to bits. So warm, so durable and effortless. It's elegant without being too much and I can layer to my heart's content!
I wore a black poet blouse tucked into vintage-style green military pants for Christmas/the opening of Nosferatu and I feel like I really nailed not only the 1800s Christmas energy, but also boho-countryside
i am deeply enjoying the metabolizing of trends that you're doing; can we get some time with you unpacking your espresso martini winter ambivalence? your internal conflict is tantalizing
I love when our grammatically correct queen is feeling sassy and silly. She's busy doing the best work, don't ask for help Harper's Bazaar.

I embraced all the brown options. It's a nice alternative to black/grey which aren't always great on me

genius idea! I'm gonna go see if I can get any of those plain camisoles I like in brown, cos they're super useful

I love this for you! 😂

Yes! This. It's maddening and lazy.
I have worn a grey knit dress with oxblood tights and my new beautiful, tailored burgundy coat pink sunglasses, burgundy lipstick, black scarf and doc martens, and I got sooo many compliments! I loved the combo. I also love it with sky blue and navy.

@ 🥰🥰🥰
Hahahahaha "a fashion passionate grammar stickler" with the hair fluff...I'm dying :)
Excited about ox blood, chocolate brown and animal print- all of those together would actually be gorgeous too.
The fact that you used the term "poncy" in such an easy, natural way is one of the many reasons you bring me joy 😂❤
Poncey has different/extended connotations in the UK

Dark Autumn here too! I feel exactly the same way.
Excited about the floor-stomping brown and the minimalistic accessories.

I kind of love black and brown together, I think it can look really soft and welcoming

"Such a pale lavender it's almost grey" AHEM who else immediately thought "you mean the color of heartache?"
I feel like there are certain people who look really good in dark chocolate brown and gravitate towards it as their substitute for black. It's time for them to stock up. I've found a fair amount of ivory this winter and I wear that way more than black.

That is so interesting, thank you for sharing your experience!
It’s kind of strange now that I think about it.
sounds amazing!!!
Be warned. It better be perfect-for-you in every other way 😉
As someone who is obsessed with velvet, I'm in love with this trend!!
It is! Just request it from your lovsl bookseller
Any chance you'll do an update on your scrolling habits? I really would love to hear your thoughts on how to scroll less.
Excellent articulation of how I feel about trends i saw around me as a child
Love how you dissect the silly trends! And I am most excited about chocolate brown, luxurious fabrics, and minimalist accessories too!
HLP, I really love this taupy shade on your lids, with this sweater and gold chain. Your skin looks beautiful too. *chef's kiss*
Yes, please bring on the oxblood, boho/country blend and the rich deep luxurious fabrics. Would love a coat that's all of these things if possible.
as a deep autumn, I too have chocolate brown stars in my eyes!!!!!
Thank you!
Ooooh... that chocolate brown😍💜
I’m 45 and dark brown has always been my go to accessory color. So glad it’s back in style!
I think chocolate brown would look so stunning with your coloring 🤎
I love dark chocolate brown!! I also feel the same about dark navy....so dark that it looks black. I think it's here to stay!! :)
I absolutely love your necklace!
I love the wine office wear! And the courdoroy, velvet, and suede get me too. I like those fabrics.
Wearing ox blood sounds so hardcore 🩸
“I’m just over here wearning taupe & maybe a sequin” ❤❤❤
I feel like the attached scarf trend could be more easily pulled from your existing wardrobe if you have a top and scarf that match and can blend together. Probably better if they match perfectly but I bet you could still get a cool effect with same color families too. Then you can pair it with monochromatic pants, jeans and/or boots :)
That cream sweater is really nice.
When I noticed suede was all the rage, I checked my closet and found my long suede coat hiding in the back of my closet that I seriously thought I had donated. So excited to bring it back to life this winter. ❤
Gurl, you soothe the despair in my technical writer's soul. 🤣
It’s summer this side but super excited for this winter given the colours
I'm old enough to have worn a coat with a scarf neckline in my late teens in the late 80s/early 90s. I do remember it not being massively useful on those winter days when you didn't need really a scarf and it either had to flap around pointlessly or I had to suffer a really sweaty neck for the sake of "style".
The unhinged sweater with a scarf neckline could be an inspiration for me as a knitter.
I love bulky shawls and chunky sweaters - a chunky sweater with an interesting scarf neckline sounds like the best of both worlds.
I head to ravelry right now to look for patterns.
Back from ravelry - I had a lovely time looking at sweater patterns and found one I probably will make.
And I looked for yarn, it's so lovely planning for a project
Burgundy is and has always been a neutral to me so I already have so many pieces ✨ feeling v trendy this year
Love your look today!!!
Hannah reacting to bad grammar in fashion listicles is my new favorite thing on the internet 😂
I've been loving the ultra wide leg jeans!!
When paired monochromatically with pants of the same color...
“Sorry, I’m busy.” 😂😅 love fashion & grammar enthusiast HLP 💖

I second this wholeheartedly!!!
OMG THIS. Especially in deep winter. Ughhhhhhh
@@culturecrashAL ENJOY the party.
😂😂 “if you are, sorry. I’m busy, because this is my job.” You kill me sometimes.
Sorry about the outburst Hannah - it was a great video.
I think you could find scarf coats in the thrift store. I remember them being big in the 80s. And bonus, they’ll have shoulder pads !
I love chocolate brown and oxblood as lifelong colors
I have an oversize just-below-the-knee length faux shearling cream coat by Caractère that I bought on sale a couple summers ago and I love it to bits. So warm, so durable and effortless. It's elegant without being too much and I can layer to my heart's content!
I wore a black poet blouse tucked into vintage-style green military pants for Christmas/the opening of Nosferatu and I feel like I really nailed not only the 1800s Christmas energy, but also boho-countryside
Wait where did you get your necklace?! Also, as a grammar nerd, I SO appreciated that beginning hahaha
i am deeply enjoying the metabolizing of trends that you're doing; can we get some time with you unpacking your espresso martini winter ambivalence? your internal conflict is tantalizing
