Mirror by Sylvia Plath

One of the iconic poems of American Literature, 'Mirror' explores the inner turmoils of a woman as she faces old age. The transience of beauty, fear of growing old and becoming ugly are factors that terrify women. Plath herself was deeply disturbed by the idea of getting old.
This poem can be considered as a medium through which Plath mirrors her own insecurities about her identity, and also the stereotypes that the patriarchal society has framed for women's youth and beauty is explored.
