- Helsinki transformed into a Winter Wonderland after yesterday's snowstorm. But it was the day after the Blizzard that the snowfall was its heaviest with some beautiful big snowflakes. When it was most intensively snowing, I went to wander on the streets of Taka-Töölö and Etu-Töölö in downtown Helsinki.

You see face, not reality.

The communal workers are already in peaceful Christmas moood and don't bother about 1/2 feet snow on the pavement! The spring is near and diesel is scarce and expensive! Lazing on the winter afternoon!
@@maroll1564 Well the reality is that no schools were closed only thing that happened was that people were advised to do home at work, so accidents would be avoided.

I was born in Helsinki 1960 and lived around Helsinki 30 years, now living in Colorado US 33 years without visiting Finland i start choking when im looking this video, i guess it's about time! 🤩

Snow is better than mud. ) Snow is removed both with equipment and shovels. There is a thaw in St. Petersburg, yesterday there was terrible ice on the roads. Today there is water underfoot.
This is beautiful. I am watching on 7/3/2023 from Phoenix Arizona USA where the current temperature is 116 degrees Fahrenheit. So it looks really nice to me, 🙂

Exceptional footage,maybe the only country that works as usual even with such kind of conditions!!!
There are bad side's about it too. The bus can be 5-20 min late for their run time, not because of snow, but because how cold it is. That snow, that came to Helsinki, it is mostly gone, since it became warm in here, temperature now switches between negative, and plus temperature's.
This is why I spend winters in Mexico. Viva Mexico and viva la vida 😂❤

Here in Norway we got snow first time in like 3 years, it lasted 5 days. Now it's raining again..
@@chrismullan7191 Yes there will always be atleast a couple snowfalls in every part of finland during the winter, but the problem is that when it turns back to 0-5 celcius positive from freezing, the snow turns slushy and wet. In southern parts like Helsinki, the snowy period usually lasts for a maximum of 3 weeks before it turns into ice and slush. The whole process then repeats but the snow we get after December is not as beautiful because there's a dirty and icey layer of snow under the fresh snow
@@chrismullan7191 Because the climate is warming, we've had some years with very little snow. This winter has been good so far with the temperature not rising above 0 C. Today it's +2 C though, and the snow is melting, and it's awful.

I love the -7C. Its -45C (with windchill) where I am today (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada). This is downright balmy! Winter is the most beautiful season! I've been to Helsinki twice. Great place!

Wowie, the wind is no joke in your great continental weather. The blessing of the cold in Finland is that when the frost dips below -10'C, the wind actually stops, with few exceptions.
@@UnclePutte For sure, but at least where I live (the prairies), it's a very dry cold, so much easier to deal with. You don't get the 'chill to the bones' that winter gives people near water. The coastal regions of Canada (where I have also lived at times), feels so much colder even though the temp rarely gets below -20C.
@@vm6824 yes, it does feel colder in damp weather. It's also overcast for most of winter season along the coastal areas in Canada. Lack of sun = more chill??
