I live in America and I couldnt help notice people walked the streets with no fear! Someone left a mini bike outside of a shop and no one stole it!!!! What a wonderful place to live.
American big cities is a one big huge mess. I ve been to Helsinki 20 years ago It was the same snowy day, nice city., I really enjoyed it ❤

@@johgndavis8159 too true! Big messes and poorly planned. You have to be rich to live in the city centers while the poor and ghettos surround the cities. Crime is our biggest problem anymore. Its even causing an old lady like me to carry a gun! No choice they prey on the elderly most frequently. I live in Georgia and Atlanta and Macon are just huge messes for crime.
What is ironic to me is that, I live in a relatively safe city on the East Coast, and the people here, who ill-need any sort of protection are the most fanatical about "vigilance" to perceived threats. They don't even know what they're afraid of. It's sad. We leave our door unlocked, our cars unlocked, have never had a single problem.

Even though it's a hard winter with a lot of snow, people seem happy on the streets. I think it's something normal for them

A beautiful snowy city that carries on no matter how cold and snowfall , unfortunately in the Uk we don’t get much snow in certain parts and just a few centimetres of snow and everything grinds to a halt ! This year we’ve had no snow that has settled 😢 so the grand children haven’t been able to have a snowball fight or build a snowman ⛄️. Love watching Levi live cams ( ski resort in winter and outdoor sports in summer) love Finland ..🇬🇧

there was hevy snow storm in Helisnki, 12.01.2024 also. I had to drive to Tampere from Helisnki. That was a fun but hard driving.

Where I live we had -25 C last week and more snow than this, life went on as normal. It all depends on how well-prepared the city is, how well the structures are built to face such weather and how much people are used to this.

I came home just 3 days ago from my Helsinki/Rovaniemi holiday. When I was there it was cold and there was snow but not this huge amount of snow. It must have snowed quite a lot since then. Helsinki is really nice and most people were very friendly too. I had to get used to the beginning of the darkness already approximately around 4 PM. Here in Switzerland it's about one hour later.
Unfortunately I don't know a lot of Finnish but most of the young people in particular spoke good English. Some words in Finnish I know, about orthography I'm not sure:

I remember a day like this in North England, as i crossed the road from a taxi to a supermarket, I fell into a hole covered by snow, I started to scream for help as I drowned, as if the snow was quick sands, it was a miracle that a person gave me a hand and pulled me from under the snow

I love driving in the fresh snow at night, the city lights reflect in the snow and it's quite bright and also it is very quiet as the snow muffles the street noise plus it can be quite magical as seen here .Surprisingly no one is cleaning the pavements nor the roads and all the buildings look very plain with no interesting details nor balconies. There is also a lot of foot traffic in spite of the weather and people look very fit.

Having spent many winters in snowy parts of Canada, many might be surprised to know that you can tell the temperature fairly accurately - by the sound of footsteps on the snow. Around freezing - basically no sound from the snow. At -45 and lower the snow SQUEAKS! Quite loudly - and it's almost funny. As you walk - SQUEAK. SQUEAK. SQUEAK. By the footstep sounds in this video I'd say the temperature was about -15. But not much lower. You only get this amount of snow falling down at temperatures below -15, and down to about -2. The really heavy snow comes in around the freezing point. At -50 the snow is very light, if there's any snowfall at all.
