Sue Cook and Nick Ross present. Cases include the murders of Larry Burt in London, although he lived in Margate and Wendy Speakes in Wakefield.
Plus a look back at the previous 10 years - most of which is now on youtube!!

My mum worked with Larry at Hilger in Margate he was there a long time. He was such a lovely guy and it was such a shock when he died. Mum just saw me watching these old Crimewatch episodes and told me about Larry so I searched it and here I am.
She doesn't do TH-cam but wanted to rewatch it as she remembered how upset she was about it.
I was only 7 at the time so had no clue. It's mad seeing Ramsgate, Margate towns in the early to mid 90s.

This episode was on here a while before. The Wendy Speakes murder was solved in early 2000s.
You know what makes me angry? The BBC didn't even do a special send off episode (like this one with the 100th show) for when they cancelled it last year. They have no respect for their own history, but thanks to Redcard and Andy these are never going to be forgotten.

what fascinates me about the reconstructions is that you can see how life in the UK was back then. For example, the streets, the exterior and interior of houses, the cars.
People say life was grim back then, but it isn't much better now in my opinion.

Every era certainly has its problems. Violent crime was actually substantially higher back then. It had gone through the roof in the 80s then took a further leap with the recession in the early 90s. I think the biggest problem with the mid 90s is that the country was really starting to creak under the John major government. It wasn't really until the Blair government a few years later that things started to pick up and the cities got a lot of investment. The sad thing about the era we live in now is that we've gone backwards.

The programme on ITV that Nick Ross mentions was called Crime Monthly. It started around 1988 and lasted until roughly 1990 and was on the third Thursday of the month, and in its early days was hosted by Paul Ross (no relation). They used to use a lot of the cases already featured on Crimewatch as their format, it was a clear copycat show in my opinion. It was Paul Ross who said "don't have nightmares" in that one episode, I remember watching it - and oh the outcry in the papers the next day LOL

You need only look at how quickly they caught the killer of Sarah Everard recently. A show on the 1980s format just wouldn't work these days, because crime and crime detection just isn't like that now. CCTV is everywhere. Mobile phone data gives location and message history. The Barry Stubbings murder at 10:46 still seems to be unsolved. The man he's with in the CCTV is dressed very much like rent boys used to dress back then. Spitalfields is of course very close to Liverpool Street Station, and all of London's major stations had a lot of rent boys hanging round. Police later said that they believed the man in the video was indeed a male sex worker that Barry had picked up. Barry apoears to have been very well off, and it was reported that he was earning £150,000 a year in his city job - a very substantial amount of money in 1994.
