    After 2 years of having my Pela phone case I wanted to try and see if the phone case was really compostable. So here is a review I made about the Pela phone case how it composts (or doesn't!) and my honest thoughts over the 3 months.

    Thunderfoot just made a video on the Pela case and if you send him a sample of yours it can told you exactly which plastic it is! (Check the video from around 18:20 to 19:00 min to see the relevant part). He is also interesting in testing similar 'biodegradable' cases that you may have. I think that could be an interesting test and maybe result in a little colab?

      It's Thunderf00t with 0's not o's, in case she can't find him. th-cam.com/video/96edx7p9KIQ/w-d-xo.html Is the video. I came here from his video too. When I saw Eleanor in Thunderf00t's video at first I thought she was a girl I had a huge crush on in high school, but was way too shy to talk to. It's not her, but does resemble her a lot.
      In my opinion there's no phone case worth $60, especially if it's made of the exact same material as a $3 case from China. I'd love to see Thunderf00t do a followup video with an actual piece of one of the $60 cases to confirm that.

      I would really be curious to see an analysis of what remains where the cases “broke down”, just to see if there is really no dangerous material left behind

    The pela websites says it takes 6 months to a year to decompose

    • @keshavmoorthy8572

      Then it's not compostible lmao

      Currently Pela claims 6 mo to 2 yr. They claim the material meets european EN 13432 which requires 90% degradation in 6 months in controlled environment (so many variables as shown in video).

    Great video! Bit of a bummer but still better than plastic. I am currently looking into getting a eco-friendly case for my new phone. Curious if anyone has had good results with any other brands?

      Hi, I know this is 100 years old now, but did you find any good compostable or decomposable alternatives?

    • @Arikian
      @Arikian หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EseJandroI know that a 100% decomposable polymer is PHAs
      They're naturally produced and consumed by bacteria and basically act as bacteria fat, what they use to store excess energy

    Good try! Not very helpful the fist two attempt as, who ever does composting knows that, you don't find the composting elements in just bury it, (Oxigen, Humidity, Heat) I can argue by experience that also your composting method is one of the least efficient and slow process that exist. Pela Web side also strongly recommend industrial composting for 90 Days (which has Higher temperatures necessary for this particular durable composting product) and 6 months to a yea for home composting. Good to watch though thanks.

    Tough to do this test since you’re supposed to chop it up into tiny pieces with scissors before doing what you did… but then you wouldn’t find it lol. So yeah, a hard test, but, not chopped up enough.

    • @EleanorJosefina
      @EleanorJosefina  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Probably, but other things that are "compostable" don't need to be chopped up like mailers and compostable drink ware.

    • @mildmannered1086
      @mildmannered1086 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EleanorJosefina Sure but this solid thicker item says on the card when you buy it to chop it up to compost, makes sense, it’s easy to do and surface area is an obvious help to speed up degradation

    • @keshavmoorthy8572
      @keshavmoorthy8572 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe because the company is a scam deliberately adding unscientific things for you to do so you'd believe it's compostible?
