Yes, proportions are very important. I don’t know who you are saying is wearing a collar too small for their face, but l believe Dan who is featured in this video is wearing a large collar that is well suited to his face. I have found that someone with a wide face looks best in a semi-spread. The conventional wisdom is to go for a narrow point collar but I believe that it has too much contrast with the face shape and looks unbalanced.
The "Robert Gillotte" collar is a different collar, and a wider cutaway collar. Mr Gillotte had a different two-button collar in the 1990s that inspired the Tomorrow Never Dies collar, but it wasn't exactly the same as that one either either. -MS
It's something of a collaboration. They're going to work with you to get you the kind of collar you want, but they want to ensure it's something that will work for you. They mostly work off of the collars they have already, but there are many samples choose from. -MS
