Kim, thank you for your feedback. It sounds like what you are asking is how to access an encrypted word file, where you are not able to actually open and view the document without a password. If that's what you are asking about, you will most likely need to use a brute-force password cracking software. I don't typically recommend them unless you purchase one from a reputable vendor. The reason I don't recommend them is because a lot of these programs contain viruses and malware that can infected your computer and compromise your security or permanently disable your computer.
LoL 😆 I'm glad it worked for you. I should put that in my tagline. FacultyWorkshop, bringing the genius out in you 🤔. On second thoughts, perhaps not. Most people are already geniuses they just don't realize it.
Thanks for this video. Very useful in my struggle today. One of my very good students sent me a file for editing that is protected hahaha. But all is well now.
Hello dear. After installing windows 10. My previous pdf word Excel files are not opening. System asked for permission but I didn't use any lock previously. Files are protected automatically. Please please help how to open
Thanks for this video, Dr. Al-Malood! Can I ask, would you consider Word 2013 encryption strong? (When the whole file is encrypted against opening it.) I'm not so worried about hackers (individual or orgs) that can brute-force it in months or years. But I am worried if a skilled hacker with the right tools can open it in a few minutes, or by running crack software overnight. This would be for "medium strength" passwords (not short or predictable, but also not very long and unpredictable ones).
+Mike F Thank you for your feedback. I'm not an IT security expert, so I don't really have an answer to your question. I would just say that it may be advisable to not only encrypt your file, but also the folder or drive that your file is located in.
If there are any restrictions on the Microsoft word version that you have, one option is using an alternative and document software like Libra office to open the document in, and then save it as an RTF file.
You need the encryption key to be able to decrypt or locate a decryptor software. But they warned many of them don't really work. You may want to talk to a network security expert to help.
I don't know of a full proof of weight for protecting a word document . You could try out other formats such as PDF or creating a document in LibraOffice, but even those options are not full proof.
+Nerdy Guy before you drag the word docx into NotePad you must first save it as a Rich Text Format file (RTF), as demonstrated in the video. If you are dragging the file into NotePad and it is showing you symbols it means that the file that you are dragging into NotePad is most likely still in doc or docx format. Try it and let me know how it works out for you.
When I change the file type from word to RTF, the RTF document gets saved in notepad, not word. things dont go right from there, what am i doing wrong?
Sharon, right click on your rtf file and check two things. 1. Make sure the file you converted from word to rtf has a .rtf extension 2. Make sure that your computer (PC) is set to open rtf files in Word and not notepad. To do both of the above, select the file you converted and right click on it and select "Properties". If you file has the correct extension and make sure the "Open with" option is set to "Word"
Abdirahman I'm going to need additional details. Are you able to see the entire top ribbon menu (HOME, INSERT, DESIGN, PAGE LAYOUT, REFERENCE, MAILINGS, REVIEW AND VIEW)? And are you sure the document is restricted?
+Laurien van de Lisdonk Sorry you weren't able to see the text. Make sure you're watching the video in HD and in full view mode, otherwise the text will be small. I'm not sure why you're not able to "Save as" I'll need more details to help. Let me know if you're still experiencing difficulty with this.

No you would need to use a password cracking tool.
The save as is inactive to proceed to the next step?????
Make sure you are not in review mode.
Thank You so much!!!!! I did this on Mac and still worked!!!!!!!
That's good to know. Thank you for sharing that feedback Tilly.

Why isn't it available? Are you using a different version or a Mac?
it's windows and is the same version, however the save as option is in light gray instead of white.
Thank you for your help
I am not even able to open the file to resave it In RTF format. What should I do?
That sounds like a different issue. It could be a corrupt file or simply opening the file may require a password.
@@Facultyworkshop yea opening the file requires a password. Can u please help me?

is there a way now to protect the document from being edited as such

there are no numbers....only letters :(
I'm not sure what you mean. Can you elaborate?
in your demonstration you stated to delete the numbers under the word password but in my case i don't see numbers....i only see letters & symbols
Ah! I see, I meant to say numbers and letter, do not delete the curly bracket "}"
somebody could help me? it does not work
Hi, I have a document that has password protection and i dont know what the password. Can you help me crack the password?
Unfortunately not.
super logico
Can someone help me? I have to have a password to actually open the document, to see whats inside.
That's a different type of hack that may require a 3rd party app.
@@FacultyworkshopDo you know of any apps that an do that, if so could you make a video on it , Thanks.
thanks so much
