I do not care if some people do not like the pre-qual they add so much to the star wars world. The other 3 with Rei kind of ruin the prequal and original by making Rei a Skywalker and making her the child of prophecy not Anakin.
The choreography was excellent. Gotta give a big hand to Ray Park who portrayed Darth Maul, really made the villain feel threatening and able to handle two Jedi at once.

The music playing during the duel between Darth Maul and Qui-Gon is called Duel of the Fates, and it literally is a duel to decide Anakin's ultimate fate. Imagine if Qui-Gon had won and stayed alive to train him with his own philosophy. Regular Jedi training doesn't work properly since Anakin was found much later than is customary, thus he had more and stronger emotional ties to his mom. The plot is extremely deep and intricate it's insane. I've been a fan for about 20 years and I still find new things to discover in the movies.

So some clarification on when it is Padme as the Queen (Natalie Portman) and when it is Sabe (Kiera Knightley). Red dress with the lights in the beginning is Padme. Sabe takes over in the black dress for the entire trip from Naboo to Coruscant, including the entire time on Tatooine. Padme takes back over once they arrive on Coruscant in the white dress to prepare to speak to the Senate in the "jester" dress. Sabe then takes over for the trip back to Naboo in the black and red short dress and remains as the queen for the rest of the movie until the very last scene when Padme is again as the queen for the celebration. As some of the others have said, this was Kiera's first role and she looked so much like Natalie Portman when in makeup that both of their mothers were on set and couldn't tell the two girls apart. Sadly this is the only Star Wars film Kiera is in, shortly after this she would go on to start making the Pirates of the Caribbean films (the first Pirates film came out the year after the next Star Wars film did, Episode II).

I wish people could go back in time and see this in theaters. It's a subtle difference, but I've noticed in this world of technology that reactors are watching in much higher definition, and it has the unfortunate effect of making CGI and green-screen elements much easier to spot. It looked flawless on the big screen though, and Lucas filmed these movies with digital cameras, so the colors were amazing. You definitely notice the color during the next film, that one really really pops.
Digital cameras didn’t archive the ability to reproduce the full color spectrum until Revenge of the Sith. If you look at the final battle in episode one, you can see how weak the colors are.
It looked absolutely cutting edge on the big screen. Even on VHS I was floored by how good it looked. As technology gets better, it exposes more of those flaws. It reminds me of when you watch an older show on a modern TV or play an old game on a modern tv. They weren’t made for that in mind so it ends up looking worse

I found out that the kid playing Anakin hated being in the movie bc his classmates bullied him for it. He later got arrested for assault and now he is diagnosed with schizophrenia 😢 I also wouldve thought he was the coolest kid in the world

Someday I'm going to have to explain to my kids that there was a time when people would buy tickets to movies they didn't even want to see, just so they could go in, watch the new PHANTOM MENACE trailer, and then go home.
Episode 1 came out when I was a kid and it immediately became my favorite series, even to this day. It's real entertaining watching someone else watch it for the first time lol 😂
This Star Wars film (as divided it is for some) was my introduction to the Star Wars franchise and I don't care what the fans think of the Prequels, I enjoy them as much as the Original Star Wars Trilogy and also the Sequel Trilogy (as problematic as this series was.
The sound design of these movies is top notch. Ben Burt done a great job in finding, and creating the sounds in the movies. From the blasters sounds to Darth Vader's breathing... Awesome reaction Ange!

This is exactly why I love these commentaries. I saw Star Wars 1, 2 and 3 at the cinema, and apart from The Revenge Of The Sith, I thought that, although they were pretty good SFX-wise, they were childish and very contrived. However, watching your reactions to the new discoveries you're making, it's bringing back the moments that were truly emotion-stirring, and that I had forgotten existed.
Another fun Star Wars fact: The actor playing Darth Maul, Ray Park, found the creepy red-and-yellow contacts he had to wear in his eyes to be very uncomfortable. As a result, he barely blinked while shooting, which is why Maul keeps his eyes almost constantly open, staring intensely in all of his scenes.
I absolutely ADORE... the last 30 minutes of this movie. The last 30 minutes make the rest of the movie worth it, in my opinion. Usually, I let this movie play while I do chores or journal and then once it gets to the last half hour, I start paying attention.
I went to see it with friends, including a MAHOOSIVE Star Wars fan. He fell asleep, and I struggled to stay awake. If you managed to enjoy this, you’re going to LOVE the next two!
Somewhere on TH-cam or somesuch there's a video called something like "Qui-qon is the worst Jedi ever", where they've put together all those clips like "I don't sense anything" and "Credits... WILL do fine" and it does just a HILARIOUS disservice to the character!

I was young as hell when I watched this and I loved it. Maybe that’s why I still love it but I still don’t get why people hate on it. It might not be as good as the original trilogy but come on that’s to high expectations.

The slide transition was originally first introduced by the great Akira Kurosawa. One of George Lucas' inspiration of making Star Wars was because of one of Kurosawa's film like The Hidden Fortress and such. I recommend you commentated Kurosawa's film. I suggest Stray Dog (1949), Seven Samurai (1954) and Yojimbo (1961). The word "Jedi" came from the Japanese word "Sengoku Jidai" (The Warring State period in Japan)

This Star Wars film (as divided it is for some) was my introduction to the Star Wars franchise and I don't care what the fans think of the Prequels, I enjoy them as much as the Original Star Wars Trilogy and also the Sequel Trilogy (as problematic as this series was.

This is exactly why I love these commentaries. I saw Star Wars 1, 2 and 3 at the cinema, and apart from The Revenge Of The Sith, I thought that, although they were pretty good SFX-wise, they were childish and very contrived. However, watching your reactions to the new discoveries you're making, it's bringing back the moments that were truly emotion-stirring, and that I had forgotten existed.

Another fun Star Wars fact: The actor playing Darth Maul, Ray Park, found the creepy red-and-yellow contacts he had to wear in his eyes to be very uncomfortable. As a result, he barely blinked while shooting, which is why Maul keeps his eyes almost constantly open, staring intensely in all of his scenes.
Making Jar Jar Binks a general is like sending in Mickey Rooney to block a punt.

I absolutely ADORE... the last 30 minutes of this movie. The last 30 minutes make the rest of the movie worth it, in my opinion. Usually, I let this movie play while I do chores or journal and then once it gets to the last half hour, I start paying attention.

I went to see it with friends, including a MAHOOSIVE Star Wars fan. He fell asleep, and I struggled to stay awake. If you managed to enjoy this, you’re going to LOVE the next two!

I can’t stand the OG Star Wars fans who think hating the prequels make them “super fans”. Episode 1, 2 and 3 are 100 times better than the original trilogy, it’s not even close.
Ewan (Obi-Wan) kept getting in trouble on set for making the lightsaber noises with his mouth while shooting scenes. Liam Neeson once walked off set and Ewan looked around in confusion because he didn't even realize he was DOING it

I liked him too, he's funny, I never understood why people hate humor so much.
I was young as hell when I watched this and I loved it. Maybe that’s why I still love it but I still don’t get why people hate on it. It might not be as good as the original trilogy but come on that’s to high expectations.

I suggest Stray Dog (1949), Seven Samurai (1954) and Yojimbo (1961). The word "Jedi" came from the Japanese word "Sengoku Jidai" (The Warring State period in Japan)
