yeah its pretty much that so long as the video isn't labeled in such a way that gave impression command block would be used ( as every redstone video usually expect to be theorctically possible to be made in vanilla MC with enough resources, as long as it may take)
I feel like there's a spectrum of "I made a thing" TH-camrs from Pure redstoners to command block/datapack tinkerers like PhoenixSC. And being on any point of that spectrum is completely fine. What matters most is setting expectations with your audience. Command block stuff is still pretty damn cool if it's done honestly!
Command blocks being used as a means to reload mobs into a contraption definitely makes more sense to do vs having to use a bunch of spawn eggs. Plus they can used in ways to enhance a build such as sending messages in chat or sounds outside of noteblock range. With the messages, yeah droppers and items could be used but could have a case of needing a bunch of droppers to get around the rng nature of them.
I think it's ok to use command blocks for either "joke" builds (like the anti French door) or if you just wanne test something, otherwise redstone contraptions shouldn't use command blocks
i think a good way to do it would to be to continue to just use redstone for 9 of the ten creations but pick one of the best unfeasible ideas and use command blocks to make it possible, would keep the integrity of each episode but also add one even crazier contraption to every episode
Command blocks are just dope. You can create tons of cool minigames and let you creativity fly. The limitations still exist but they're just in a different order of magnitude.
2:29 Well, this is why I don't recommend ridiculously impossible "redstone" builds to other people. Because, of course, they require command blocks (but honestly, some of those suggestions don't look possible, even with command blocks) Sure, sometimes I would suggest to other redstoners to make stuff like 9x9 piston doors for Bedrock Edition as a challenge, but not to the point where it's flat out impossible.
Idea for command blocks... commands blocks which are connected together using redstone, and each command block (by using the fill command), creates a component of a PCB. Idea for redstone... world deleting mechanism using the power of cactus, a dangerously overcomplicated catapult, a house which can troll you in numerous ways.
I feel particularly called out XD Most of my channel content is creating working contraption things in vanilla Minecraft with command blocks. Like Titanic steam engines, smooth-moving elevators etc. In my mind command blocks are as valid part of the game as any other block, not everyone plays survival (Over the last 12 years of playing the game I know I haven't played anywhere near as much survival as I have creative) It's part of the vanilla game so I see no shame in trying to make ambitious contraptions that push what the game can do using command blocks.
@@JoannaFalkowska Can't they though? All the contraptions I do make do require Redstone circuits and other Redstone machinery to work. command blocks make up but a part in their function but there is still redstone required to make any of them work at all.
@@AKABasicallyAnythingThe way I see it, command blocks are the tier 2 of redstone. If I had to give an analogy; Command blocks are like metalbending in avatar.
You should have three different series: Regular Redstone, Redstone + Command blocks, and mainly command blocks with a little bit of Redstone components sprinkled here and there
I think its totally fine as long as you are transparent about it, nobody is undermining your adeptness at redstone just because you use command blocks also on occasion.
Love this! When I did my light show house it required a lot of command blocks and redstone but I wasn't ever sure if that counted as a redstone build or not cus there was no way to get the look / result without mixing in command blocks in the redstone I put in.
Although using commands for the anti-French door was great, it is absolutely possible without them. You can build a door that only lets in "registered" players using allays, or possibly using other mobs with player-specific data.
I feel like it could be fine adding SOME command block ideas to a "redstone ideas" video, as long as it specified that command blocks were used. Maybe there could be a section near the middle or end of the video where contraptions featuring command blocks are shown, before either showing more "pure" redstone creations or just ending off the video.
you can imagine redstone as machinery and command block as technology. they migh seem same but are very different machinery is a machine with moving parts and technology is tech that uses electricity to "think" and perfome actions. and they can sometimes cross paths like clock for exaple it uses elecrticity to get that one second tick and then that one second gets delayed to minutes and hours by gears (not all clocks work this way but most wall clocks do so idc). i am not gonna go into details of how it works but thats the basics so i think its fine to use command blocks here and there.
Way I see it, just make two kinds of videos, label them differently (redstone ideas vs any ideas) and swap em' out, be up front about commands being allowed in the latter type, and then benefit from all ideas. Wins all around.
How Purplurs thinks: “I don’t want to disappoint my fans! I’m gonna make sure not to use command blocks!” Those fans in question: “Haha, French people no allowed”
It's not like we're wanting to replicate the builds much. It's just for entertainment. It's a little like PhoenixSC, but in a different format. As one of your few adult viewers, I'm experienced enough to say making a separate series is a bad idea. Just make fun and funny and stuff. Do it with redstone, do it with command blocks, do it with both.
Your honesty is very appreciated. A "normal" youtuber would simply ignore concerns for legitimacy and go solely for the entertainment value. The fact that this video exists means that you actually care about your subscribers, and you want to be transparent about these stuff. Thank you
if you're gonna use command blocks in any videos, it's probably fine to do so as long as it isn't abused : if people are gonna click on the video for redstone ideas then ideally most of the video will be pure redstone, but sprinkling in one or two command contraptions should be fine as long as it isn't presented as pure redstone and doesn't takes too much of the video's time. or well that's the way i view it idk, i'm not a redstone gigabrain
I really appreciate how patiently and genuinely you took the time to make this point instead of just making a video going "you won't BELIEVE how DUMB my comments are!! [SCHOOLING NOOBS ON REDSTONE]" Plus I think you have a very mature and nuanced viewpoint on this topic, where it would be really easy to go overboard in one direction or the other for vitriolic engagement.
Just put a note, that the contraption used a command block somewhere, where it's possible to find it and nobody will complain (as long as contraptions using command blocks aren't more common than the redstone ideas obv.)
In my opinion a "Command Block" should be defined how ever you see fit. If you want to call it a decorative block, a redstone entity or even a cheat, that is left to the players imagination. I myself will call a "Command Block" redstone and ANY other redstone powered block such as Pistons(all varieties), Note blocks, Juke box, etc. *Thank you for taking your time to read this Purplers*
We need more comand blocks to make more funy videos. Like if the camand block was at the end and was clearly satirical to make a funny joke. One example: showing off several contraptions next in line, but coincidentally theres an extra button or contraption you "never built" at the end of the showcase thats does the same stuff, but in a wierd way
Allays can be used to detect specific players, since they try to throw items at the player who gave them an item. It can’t detect whether you are french, but it can detect whether or not you are Purplurs. I have used this to child proof some redstone on a server I play on, so it only works when I am nearby, it’s quite effective and not difficult to setup.
You should make that expanding piston door with command blocks anyways Just be sure to tell the audiance ahead of time that it is imposable without them
It's a matter of an already established convention, not what you think is logical or a good analogy to another hobby. Currently, what community refers to as "redstone" is supposed to be achievable in survival, and command blocks don't meet that requirement. Just like Purplers acknowledged.
I feel like there should be a craftable, weaker version of the command block that, for example, can't kill people, can't change blocks 1000s of blocks away, can't spawn mobs, etc. but you could, e.g. open and close a 3x3 door with blocks you already put into the command block
Just make separate videos, then, I say. Be honest with your viewers. Ask for Redstone ideas, pick the realistic ones, make "Dumb Redstone Video" and then take the unrealistic ones and make "Dumb Command Block Video" and everyone is happy. You're truthful, your viewers get to see their ideas, we're entertained, and everyone wins.
I appreciated this video and I agree with the "angel Purplers". But still I think that a command block that generates huge amount of items when the focus of the video itself is something else (an item sorter, a fast shulker loader, etc) is perfectly fine. That said, I'd be totally ok and interested in a "I built your unrealistic silly ideas with funny command blocks", just make it clear in both title and thumbnail. And thank you for your work!
using the new crafter, make an overcomplicated machine, that requires you to complete minigames or captchas for every individual inserted item c: One of those minigames could be Simon Says; while the captcha one could be a block-swapper interface where you have to select the green concrete blocks, and none of the other. If you fail any of the minigames or captchas, the process fails, the crafting is canceled and you only get your items back if you succeed at another captcha. Oh and for actually crafting upon sending all required items you need to play another minigame or captcha as well.
Command blocks and redstone, I love both of these. Minecraft wouldn't be Minecraft if players couldn't break their limits, and command blocks let them do that. As for red stone, I think it is the soul of creativity. And most of all, I love the sound of a redstone machine when it's working
If it were me, I’d put a command block icon in the corner during a command block contraption to preserve the sense of honesty while also allowing ridiculous jokes to happen. You could even have it only pop in when the punchline drops to retain the surprise factor.
If you want an IRL example, redstone is electrical circuits, and command blocks are code. Electrical circuits can be used to make something happen every time based on when it is powered, but code can make many things happen on a device that allowed it. Imagine if your phone when powered on only did calls, nothing more. That’s an electrical circuit, now a smart phone which is able to call, but it can also text, access the internet, store photos, play games, and much more. That’s because of code.
my favorite part is that purplers probably could have used allays to detect which player is near the french door (unless they werent added yet, im too lazy too check the release date lmao)
Okay, so can you make a combination lock that’s simple to create? Or make a puzzle that functions like the Witness (using Command blocks) and explain how it works? I wanna make either of these things but don’t understand how it’s done.
Id say in every one of those videos do 9 redstone ones and one command block one. Specify which is the command block one and you get the best of both sides
agree with everything said. As datapack creator and command block nerd, I can confirm that redstone and command blocks are simply 2 distinct categories in the game.
Honestly, id love to see command block users in the spotlight on social media. The shit you can do with them is insane! Im not talking about the one and done command blocks, i mean using pulsing and chain command blocks activated with redstone logic. Seriously, i think you should consider making a video showing off what advanced command block usage can actually do (and not just a tutorial on how it works, those already exist and are well done).
Command blocks ARE redstone, but it’s only in activation, so anything that happens because of that command block are not directly activated with redstone, and therefor have an illegal connection, breaking the redstone, so command blocks cannot be used for machine operations itself, but stuff like restocking supplies for a showcase or restoring flying machines that are disposable, or other things like that
Personally I think command blocks are awesome and could use some more love but just be forthcoming if you’re showcasing and it uses command blocks. Imho it detracts from the video if I’m wondering the whole of something is “legit” restore or not
I was actually hoping to see a redstone video using command blocks as they go together very well. For example, many people may not know this but you can use a comparator on a command block, and it will output a redstone signal based on its last success count (how many times the command was successfully executed, usually 1 but can be higher for certain commands)
you could just put an little icon on the builds that use commandblocks at the corner of the screen like *commandblock image* this build used command blocks so that way you woudlnt be tricking anyone
yes since it is activated using redstone components, but it's different because of the creative mode exclusivity. more in line with data packs and stuff. still impressive and can be used for custom map making.
Ever notice you can do animation with blocks in Minecraft, like stop motion and screenshots and blocks. Like, you don't need to use puppet rigs or physical animations or assets or have to draw it. It's easy and fun.
I feel like command blocks in redstone are similar to how world edit and tools like axiom are perceived in the building community. I mean sure, you aren't placing all the blocks yourself and some of the things you can do with axiom would take forever to do manually like texturing and adding gradients but that doesn't take away from the build itself, it just requires a different set of skills and stuff is at a different scale to be impressive. I would say command blocks do the same thing in the redstone community, it may seem ingenuine to use them, but there are plenty of command block TH-camrs, like Mysticat for example, who make some really impressive things. So just do what you feel is right for your videos and your content without wondering what your audience will think as much.
command blocks arnt undermining redstone. command blocks still take a lot of creativity and you can make amazing creations with them like the guy that remade the entirety of pokemon red in minecraft.

I would love to see a “Making your command block ideas” video
Bro is so honnest he made an appoligy video for being funny.
Purplers... Don't change your awesome!
I have an idea for the French door; so all you need to do is make an airport and any flights incoming from France cant get in. GENIUS
So... Just start making command block videos separately from redstone videos.
No
Me bruh
I think it's ok to use command blocks for either "joke" builds (like the anti French door) or if you just wanne test something, otherwise redstone contraptions shouldn't use command blocks
i think a good way to do it would to be to continue to just use redstone for 9 of the ten creations but pick one of the best unfeasible ideas and use command blocks to make it possible, would keep the integrity of each episode but also add one even crazier contraption to every episode
Purplers at 3:43: "You could subscribe!" Next sentence: "Even if it was possible, of course."
I mean you could add a little pop-up in a video like "Making your dumb redstone ideas" that said "Command blocks used here!"
Command blocks are just dope. You can create tons of cool minigames and let you creativity fly. The limitations still exist but they're just in a different order of magnitude.
2:29 Well, this is why I don't recommend ridiculously impossible "redstone" builds to other people. Because, of course, they require command blocks (but honestly, some of those suggestions don't look possible, even with command blocks)
Sure, sometimes I would suggest to other redstoners to make stuff like 9x9 piston doors for Bedrock Edition as a challenge, but not to the point where it's flat out impossible.
Bro thought we won't notice the video length at 1:03 😂
look at the views too
Just put ‘ dumb redstone ideas (ft. Command blocks ‘
I feel particularly called out XD
Most of my channel content is creating working contraption things in vanilla Minecraft with command blocks.
It's super cool what command blocks can do. I think the only point being made here is that you shouldn't label those videos as "redstone".
You should have three different series: Regular Redstone, Redstone + Command blocks, and mainly command blocks with a little bit of Redstone components sprinkled here and there
This was a super fun video to work on, especially the pig launcher
I think its totally fine as long as you are transparent about it, nobody is undermining your adeptness at redstone just because you use command blocks also on occasion.
Love this! When I did my light show house it required a lot of command blocks and redstone but I wasn't ever sure if that counted as a redstone build or not cus there was no way to get the look / result without mixing in command blocks in the redstone I put in.
Although using commands for the anti-French door was great, it is absolutely possible without them. You can build a door that only lets in "registered" players using allays, or possibly using other mobs with player-specific data.
7:52 that animation caught me off guard
1:44 bro made dream dirty 💀
How Purplurs thinks: “I don’t want to disappoint my fans! I’m gonna make sure not to use command blocks!”
Those fans in question: “Haha, French people no allowed”

Just entertain us, you silly goose ! If its bothering you that much, put a command block icon in the corner of the video when you use them
Eight minutes and 24 seconds that I will never recover
In my opinion a "Command Block" should be defined how ever you see fit. If you want to call it a decorative block, a redstone entity or even a cheat, that is left to the players imagination. I myself will call a "Command Block" redstone and ANY other redstone powered block such as Pistons(all varieties), Note blocks, Juke box, etc. *Thank you for taking your time to read this Purplers*
6:09 That rabbit needs help.
0:37 this is cursed
Yeah well that's what mysty does
We need more comand blocks to make more funy videos. Like if the camand block was at the end and was clearly satirical to make a funny joke.
One example: showing off several contraptions next in line, but coincidentally theres an extra button or contraption you "never built" at the end of the showcase thats does the same stuff, but in a wierd way
A video called something like "Creating your silly ideas using command blocks" would perform well.
Allays can be used to detect specific players, since they try to throw items at the player who gave them an item. It can’t detect whether you are french, but it can detect whether or not you are Purplurs. I have used this to child proof some redstone on a server I play on, so it only works when I am nearby, it’s quite effective and not difficult to setup.
they are not redstone. video over.

ok masty crafterman
You should make that expanding piston door with command blocks anyways
Just be sure to tell the audiance ahead of time that it is imposable without them
Could you imagine if the youtube DIY community demonized using microcontrollers in electronics projects? That's basically what command blocks are.
Fair. Liking so he sees it
I appreciated this video and I agree with the "angel Purplers".
And thank you for your work!

using the new crafter, make an overcomplicated machine, that requires you to complete minigames or captchas for every individual inserted item c:
One of those minigames could be Simon Says; while the captcha one could be a block-swapper interface where you have to select the green concrete blocks, and none of the other.

2:18 I will do one push-up for each like on this comment
If it were me, I’d put a command block icon in the corner during a command block contraption to preserve the sense of honesty while also allowing ridiculous jokes to happen. You could even have it only pop in when the punchline drops to retain the surprise factor.
you're honesty and honor is admirable and you now have a new subscriber
A piston door, in a piston door, In a piston door, IN A PISTON DOOR

@@someone4229 yep,
Id say in every one of those videos do 9 redstone ones and one command block one. Specify which is the command block one and you get the best of both sides
3:26 looks like a tank 😂😂
agree with everything said.
I was sleeping when this was uploaded, great that you are back!
Command blocks ARE redstone, but it’s only in activation, so anything that happens because of that command block are not directly activated with redstone, and therefor have an illegal connection, breaking the redstone, so command blocks cannot be used for machine operations itself, but stuff like restocking supplies for a showcase or restoring flying machines that are disposable, or other things like that
5:32 this enraged me beyond comprehension
everyone knew the door was command blocks and no one cared. Your fine man
I like command blocks for doing stuff, but I won’t deny that redstone is cooler
Idea: call it "dumb redstone and command block ideas"
I say as long as you are honest upfront about using command blocks for certain builds, I don’t think it’d be that big of an issue.
Personally I think command blocks are awesome and could use some more love but just be forthcoming if you’re showcasing and it uses command blocks. Imho it detracts from the video if I’m wondering the whole of something is “legit” restore or not
I'm sure we will all understand if you have to use command blocks every once in a while, as long as you confess at the time.
nothing built lasts forever purplers...
Easy solution: Dumb command block ideas
I was actually hoping to see a redstone video using command blocks as they go together very well. For example, many people may not know this but you can use a comparator on a command block, and it will output a redstone signal based on its last success count (how many times the command was successfully executed, usually 1 but can be higher for certain commands)
you could just put an little icon on the builds that use commandblocks at the corner of the screen like
*commandblock image* this build used command blocks
so that way you woudlnt be tricking anyone
1:09 rip gravity
yes since it is activated using redstone components, but it's different because of the creative mode exclusivity. more in line with data packs and stuff. still impressive and can be used for custom map making.
Ever notice you can do animation with blocks in Minecraft, like stop motion and screenshots and blocks. Like, you don't need to use puppet rigs or physical animations or assets or have to draw it. It's easy and fun.
I was fully expecting for the little demon to say,”just do it brah” and then throw the command block at purplers😂😂😂
The fact the command block video was using orange powder and you used red sand...
Make a red stone machine that dances ( no pressure )
Purplers making a better confession video than most redstoners do actual redstone lol
i honestly wouldn't care if its redstone, if its a smart or funny idea, its fine!
command blocks arnt undermining redstone.
command blocks still take a lot of creativity and you can make amazing creations with them like the guy that remade the entirety of pokemon red in minecraft.
Make a walking house don’t worry, no pressure because one other TH-camr did this, and it took hours from him
