This doesn't break hopper counters, a low strength piston remains extended even if a high strength piston pushes against it The difference is which activates first if both are powered in the same tick, which previously was random based on location and rotation, but now is true random
Some of these are bugs, and some of them are just good changes that make redstone more explicable. It's obviously not ready as is - that's why this is a snapshot build, not a release.
Yeah I get annoyed by the immediate backlash to anything that isn't exactly what one group wants. Like obviously the 0 tick stacked piston randomness is unintentional, and this is a *snapshot* so there's no reason to make it out like Mojang is intentionally doing that and that it's an urgent issue. And why should minecarts be able to stack like that? It makes some things easier, but it's nothing essential for stuff to work, and is strange behaviour to anyone not familiar with it. And with the note block noises a while back, instead of insisting the changes be reverted, why not suggest only full blocks mute them since they're almost always covered by a block or observer in redstone builds? Or if that's not enough, add redstone components to the list! I'm guessing some people at Mojang considered this, but decided against it for whichever reason. Then the very few times they have to be powered, it's just one more sound in what's likely a noisy machine already, like a door.
@@SamuelBoshierjust make the hopper minecarts take blocks out fast, or allow the players in the game the ability to adjust it (like most people probably want with minecarts right now).

@Purplers I know a very easy way to fix redstone wires. Do you know what happenes when you use shears on string connected to tripwire? It changes its state. I think that the solution might be just letting you to change state of individual redstone dusts, so they updatade everything. It will let both the lower lag and working pistons exist at the same time. It doesn't require rewriting all of the stuff done in that snapshot, so mojang might do it.

Hey purplers! Can you do this, Chatgpt gave this to me To create a simple 2×2 door in Minecraft, use the following steps: 1. **Dig a 2x2 hole:** Create a 2-block wide and 2-block high space in the ground. 2. **Place Pistons:** Place two pistons vertically on each side of the hole, making sure they face inward. You should have four pistons in total. 3. **Add Blocks:** Place blocks in front of each piston, filling the hole's space, to form the door. 4. **Connect Redstone:** Place redstone dust on the ground adjacent to the pistons and connect it to a switch or pressure plate to control the door. This will create a door that opens and closes when activated.
I think a lot of the jankiness in the video are just bugs, this is an experimental feature after all, I like the new update rules for Redstone, I think they make a lot of sense.
from the patch notes: "Please note that the experimental features behind this toggle are not aimed at any future release at this time. Instead, this is a place for us to try out changes and gather feedback." Mojang is actually asking for our feedback this time. They don't plan on implementing this anytime soon, so redstone probably isn't going to be ruined. So this is the community's opportunity to make our voice heard.
it's a shame how many people don't read this and immediately go, "MOJANG JUST RUINED MINECRAFT!!!! REDSTONE IS BROKEN FOREVER!!!" or "THESE ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORST CHANGES" like bro this is your chance to give constructive feedback, they've asked for it.
But my question is why though? Why try and "fix" something that isn't broken? These redstone changes are basically how bedrock redstone works, and we all know that the core redstone community hates how bedrock redstone functions. So why bring it here? My takeaway is that they should keep the new Minecraft physics and maybe the new torch texture, and literally get rid of everything else...
@@Key-Knight87it IS broken, it runs like shit, has actual broken mechanics like the random update order, and has issues with consistency. The actual video you're commenting on SHOWS what was broken about old redstone. That's WHY they're trying to fix it.
@@metalandmagic1424 Well if whatever Mojang is trying to "fix" causes this much uproar, then what we had couldn't be THAT bad to begin with. With how redstone originally worked on Java edition, it allowed for all sorts of creations that wouldn't be possible with the way redstone currently works on bedrock. Even I'm mainly a bedrock player, and I'll admit that Java has better redstone. I would hate for it come come to Java. My and many others takeaway from this snapshot, is Mojang trying to bring parity to Java by making the redstone match up with the inferior system. Instead of actually doing something people would appreciate like porting moveable containers or redstone running up walls, Mojang pulls something like this...
@@Key-Knight87 "Well if whatever Mojang is trying to "fix" causes this much uproar, then what we had couldn't be THAT bad to begin with" Bad take. Redstone is laggy, buggy and generally works in weird and mysterious ways right now. It has been like that for a long, long time. And players have been asking for it to be fixed for a long, long time. A lot of players don't use redstone, or bother learning how it works, because of the jank and inconsistencies with it. The only problem is that certain players have gotten used to the janky redstone, and somehow want it to be fixed, but in a way that doesn't change anything about how redstone works. Like Purplers complaining that his stuff is broken - so what? Lets say redstone IS changed in this way - it just means having to figure out and learn new ways of doing stuff with it. But they don't want to do that. So they complain. And complain. And complain. They want it fixed without having to relearn anything about it. THATS why there's "so much uproar". Not because the changes are inherently bad, but because a minority of players who have spent hours and hours learning janky redstone are getting salty that none of their stuff works when the jank is taken away. The average player doesn't care that much because the average player hasn't spent a decade touching himself over the thought of redstone. I would bet that 90% of people watching this video don't really use redstone outside of following redstone tutorials to make basic farms - and they're being told the changes are evil and bad because it breaks over engineered and convoluted contraptions, which they themselves probably have never attempted because redstone, as it is, is convoluted and janky.
I just tested that Redstone dust updating thing and it still works for me on 24w33a Edit: I found out that the changes are toggleable in the experimental settings area
The red stone changes are experimental, meaning that they are neither permanent nor the final iterations to the changes they want to make to red stone. And yet, people are already up in arms. They literally requested feedback. It’s not that dire.
Came here from Doc’s Hermitcraft episode - very good video. Hope it’s reverted, otherwise my Gold farm will be broken. Relies on placing 24 minecarts stacked into one another, and entiry cramming zombiefied piglins
I think they should keep the redstone changes and add new blocks/features that behave in old ways. That way we can have the performance, consistency and ease of understanding while still allowing experts to utilise old mechanics!
2:25 having randomness in bedrock is crazy. since we don't have the necessary compounds for json elements, there is no way to have randomness. and that's cool to have some here, if we can figure out how to use it
As someone who occasionally dabbles with redstone the only thing I really want to be fixed is parallel Redstone lines not updating and potentially the removal of any randomness all the random updates Etc are fine there just something you have to get used to and work around or exploit.
I think the reason Mojang “fixed” redstone the way they did is to make it more intuitive. There’s no way you’d guess the way redstone indirectly updates blocks. That kind of thing hurts new players trying to pick it up. I like it. But I’m a filthy casual and don’t have years of builds that will break as a result. (we need a new 0tick solution though)
As a Minecraft alpha player its really sad to see that minecarts pushing each other on adjacent rails go. I have very fond memories or making loops near straight rails and loading them with carts as the only way to make carts gain speed to go long distances or up hill. It has allways been very nostalgic to be able to continue to use that mechanic, very sad to see this 0:50 "bug" go.
I was playing Kerbal Space Program and when you launched the villager up in the air the "Music that plays when you go to space" played and I thought it was edited in.
I think old designs breaking isn't a reason to not make changes. If something was never intended e.g. quasi-connectivity but was left for a long time and incorporated into designs doesn't mean its now intended and should be kept. It will mean redesigns of a lot of contraptions/farms but I think for new redstoners and people just starting it functions far more logically than before (excluding bugs - but im sure theyll fix the bugs at a minimum). Rather than be mad about old designs breaking I think people should be inspired for the potential to be the person who designs something new.
They should add a new block that can change the state of minecarts flying/or maybe make it some sort of a gamerule that normaly isnt active so that older projects dont get ruined
What do you mean the feedback is mostly negative? Everyone loves the new minecart and redstone changes, only the dust changes, which is a small part of the snapshot, get not well received.
When was the bug that minecarts next to eachother effected eachother re introduced to the game, I thought they got rid of that back in beta when speedy rails were introduced?
Cards on the table, Fixing a bug is not ruining redstone, and neither will improving minecarts, it's just gonna change the way things are made, this type of changes has been done since the beta we're not gonna die because of it.
What I think would be a better solution to when two pistons are fighting over a block with equal redstone power level would be to make them collide. If they are both facing head on, they each extend half way and if they are diagonal to one another they dont extend at all because the corners collided. Maybe add a visual indicator to the piston that its collided, which would also light up if the piston tries to push more than its limit or tries to push an immuvable block.
I don't call the lag fixes that change stuff "ruining redstone". Redstone's functionality changes sometimes. A piston door from 2018 might not work in 2024. Plus, this is just a snapshot, and everything is subject to change/fix.The bugs are bad but they aren't gonna be permanent at all. Also, maybe this is a hot take, but I find piston bolts useless. So much more difficult and expensive than an ice boat path for similar speeds, not even mentioning packed or blue ice. Also, Minecart gamerule. Also, Elytra. Also, selective horse breeding. Good video, I just don't personally agree with some of your points. Keep up the good work!
The minecart stacking i guess is to avoid the tnt minecart stacking; you place a good number of those they leave a squared explosion, but if you place a ton... Bye server until the lag stops
comparing a fully fledged mod to the first iteration of a feature marked as "experimental" is crazy. every mod goes through its trial and error stage - same goes with Mojang, except they're sharing their progress publicly with snapshots. content like this annoys me
every snapshot with a controversial change people go "Mojang ruined X!!!!" and then they revert it and they go "OMG Mojang finally listened". every fucking time. that's the point of snapshots. and this one is also under an experiment which is explicitly open to feedback and has no ETA.
@@WonkyFish19 bedrock has 10 tick redstone so copper bulb died because of parity. and that would be making a good feature less good (it's still a 1 block t flip flop). not the same thing.
The point is that they tried to make Redstone less laggy in a jank way. The code behind it looks bad on top of that, but that isn't the main problem here.
AH YES, as if a very predictable occurance of randomness is worse than a stupid bit of logic based on location and direction. People are complaining about this slight randomness, despite making redstone MORE predictable. However, they're working on it and they're adjusting it. Also piston bolts aren't really necessary if the minecart speed itself is improved. idk there are some issues, but the base ideas there are perfect to me.
Mojang said in their blog post that they know about this in the "Known Issues" section, it's locked behind an experiment datapack for a reason. @@artemis3361 That's the thing, i don't think backlash is warranted for this! 2:40 The only thing I'd like changed is that it would alternate instead of being random. I would like for hopper counters to still work
This doesn't break hopper counters, a low strength piston remains extended even if a high strength piston pushes against it
The difference is which activates first if both are powered in the same tick, which previously was random based on location and rotation, but now is true random

Hey purplers! Can you do this, Chatgpt gave this to me
To create a simple 2×2 door in Minecraft, use the following steps:

Hello Cringygull!!!
Thanks for including the stacking minecart change! I have a build where I was using that mechanic as the main triggering mechanism.
from the patch notes: "Please note that the experimental features behind this toggle are not aimed at any future release at this time. Instead, this is a place for us to try out changes and gather feedback."
Mojang is actually asking for our feedback this time.

My and many others takeaway from this snapshot, is Mojang trying to bring parity to Java by making the redstone match up with the inferior system. @@Key-Knight87 "Well if whatever Mojang is trying to "fix" causes this much uproar, then what we had couldn't be THAT bad to begin with"
Bad take.
I just tested that Redstone dust updating thing and it still works for me on 24w33a
Edit: I found out that the changes are toggleable in the experimental settings area
The red stone changes are experimental, meaning that they are neither permanent nor the final iterations to the changes they want to make to red stone. And yet, people are already up in arms. They literally requested feedback. It’s not that dire.

Good video, I just don't personally agree with some of your points. Keep up the good work!
