I also find it hard to choose about what to cheese. Abusing guards for kills is cheesy. But of course you sometimes run into enemies you can't kill and need to retreat to the guards, they are there for a reason. And when they are killed you can also loot them, it is kinda tempting to rely more on the guards. Changing maps when you are about to die feels cheesy aswell. But maps like LuMoir have no guards, so when you encounter an enemy that is stronger and faster than you you'll be like: "Okay, I guess I'll die". Or if you explore a map and suddenly get petrified. It sure is possible without it, but it doesn't really improve the experience. If you have played through it all before and know where the dangerous spots are, you may try it without such tactics. Also it is made for multiplayer, a bit of compensation seems reasonable. Changing maps to update shops also is cheesy, but the shop contents in Rage of Mages 1 are so horrible that it would take forever to find what you need otherwise, especially later on. Most cheese is just something you do because the game lacks non cheesy alternatives for your situation. I'd say changing maps to save yourself or update shops is okay. Also retreating to guards when in danger, but do not abuse guards on purpose for loot.
TBH I didn't feel bad with "cheesing" game by reloading the map when I'm about to die. Really, punishment for death is very severe and can set you back several HOURS, if not days of grinding. Being a mage and losing your whole gear (on top of lost skills) with no hope of retrieving it means you are pretty much screwed, even if you have some offensive spells (no auto attack is annoying, and spending mana on basic fire arrow/thunder won't get you far). In early game it is probably more viable to just make other mage than grind experience and several thousands gold for new staff. There is also almost no way of getting Drain Life spell and that mean only mages can heal natively. It's simply not fun in early game and RoM2 is much better balanced. Hell, most MMOs ley you keep the gear and just pay "fine" in gold or exp (but at least in 2 you have chance of getting it back). Now, reloading map for shops is not really necessary, as they rotate inventory after a while. [edit] 10:20 or that. Getting spawned in corner of the map next to dragon and several monsters is just bullshit. And that was Kids Paradise 2, a beginner map. That fireball probably could 1-shot a low to mid level mage and send back player SEVERAL THOUSANDS pieces of gold in lost equipment. At least it let mage keep the learned spells.
I dunno if you still play WOTV but they rerun Tactics on global and give 3 level 120 characters of choice today. Might be worth it to login and summon anyway.
I've dropped it, there's no content for me to run aside from the 5 mins brutals, also no pc client means i have to put up with either emulators or google pc client(which crashes my drivers when i use OBS). I did a unit review of gafgarion though, among the thousands unit reviews i did, but honestly i'm waiting for girls frontline 2 to drop in december, sword of convallaria is a bit on the meh side after one run of the spiral of destiny i don't feel the need to play given the main story in the gacha side is as weak as imoen wielding a 2h sword
@@astromonkey1757 Understandable, power creep is now so bad WOTV is barely playable outside of story. I did manage to get it working on an emulator for kicks but I'm mainly playing it because a friend plays it on phone and told me there's a free Rinoa. And I love FFVIII. So yeah the new characters are so overpowering they essentially had to give away near maxed versions of them to even the playing field somehow. They also got a new rare version of Ramada who was cool in her low rarity version too.
@@astromonkey1757 Oh I liked original Girls Frontline but game really isn't idle friendly and became a chore. Was the sequel supposed to play more like XCom?
@@astromonkey1757You don't like XCom combat? I adore it, enjoyed Shadowrun Returns because of that XCom-like combat. Still haven't played Wasteland 2 or 3 tho, am going through backlog now just finished FFIV 3D version, farming tails and summons took over a week.
