After many requests I've put together my "Ultimate Texture Bundle" here: www.anthonyturnham.com/textures and it's currently got 80% off. It's the result of over 6 years of collecting and curating high quality textures from around the world. I'm really proud of it and I think you'll love it too! :)
Worth watching for the texture edit at the end alone. I fnid the blend modes are rarely discussed in detail like you do, and so it's really, really useful knowing what even just a few of these are good for. Plus, as always, you take a lot of the angst out of editing or comping because you emphasise you are just making the photo how you want it to be. So it's not like "You need an S-curve here" but "look, what we want is to get those shadows less black so we can drop colour in". Layman's terms editing, I love it.
You analyzing all aspects of the image is knife sharp - I am learning from that! Especially the point of lifting true black to be able to put color into the shadows. Obvious when you bring it up, but until now, not something I thought about before - always true black and almost also true white for me, but not anymore.
Great video, I'll play with this a bit. Can you do a video on turning a portrait photo in to a painting or water color? You make the learning fun and interesting, I think this is because you really enjoy what you are doing and it really comes through in your videos. I also appreciate the fact that you go in depth in your instructions. Keep up the GREAT work!
Awesome video. New to photogprahy and learning Luminar Neo. the blend modes still get me when to use them and which one to use, but this was a good video to see a couple of examples.
A great theme, very interesting. ...As always here! I tried a similar way to get such a result. With the colour-transfer-tool I tried to get an impessionistic look to one of my photos. I didn´t got the result I was looking for. But the way you describe here seems to get me on course... Thanks for posting, Anthony. Greetings Ralf
So….that was a fantastic edit..and it really changed the way I think about what I’m doing and how I’ve been approaching some edits the past few days. Great work..helpful..and inspiring.
Excellent creative use of layers and masks. I really like the textured layering as I see great uses for it. I live in NM and we have quite a few areas similar to the image you edited here and doing a painterly effect would greatly enhance the aged nostalgic feel in some of the old buildings. Great edit.
Very nice work, Anthony. I have been very interested in the 'painterly' look, but have struggled with getting it to work well for me. This helps a lot!!!
Incredible edit. Thanks so much for sharing how you did that in Neo. And yes, please create a Portrait Background Removal video when it fits into your schedule. Really enjoy your Channel.
Outstanding video!!! Very detailed and to the point. This is good for those of us who have used Luminar, and especially good for those who are new to it!

Thanks Anthony. Appreciate you going through a full edit. It helps explain the process. No just using the tools. Neo 1.1 completed version. Concerned they didnt have dodge and burn plus the clone and stamp tools . I wonder if the next update we have to pay for it ?
No worries David. Yeah clone and stamp would be greatly appreciated in the tool set. I don't think we need dodge and burn as we can achieve better results painting in a bespoke develop tool. Boosting or reducing exposure whilst also addressing highlights and shadows if need be.
This was really a great video tutorial on using Neo for such a task! You'd get a much better result in Ps, but it would take a LOT longer to achieve! Thanks for sharing this!
Great approach of readjusting the style of famous artists with Luminar. Might be a very beneficial series... f.e. style of Annie Leibovitz and others. Thanks, Anthony, you are the CR7 of editing!
Splendid video, Anthony...the very best introduction to NEO that I've seen yet! If you could possibly slow the delivery down just a wee bit. Thanks for a job well done!
Thank you so much for this video. I've been shown to many features of Luminar Neo that can really improve our skills in trating our shots in a more easy way. Best regards from Rio de Janeiro/Brazil. By the way, you live in a such beatiful country. I miss NZ.
An excellent and inspiring video Tx. Have you ever thought of getting into Whole Spectrum photography? That’ll help satisfy your artistic side. I’ve managed to do some pretty cool things with this using Neo and Luminar4. Think that you’d find it fun and could well inspire a new crowd to your excellent channel.
G'day Anthony Bloody marvellous conversation mate. Now with Neo, the end product is ip to our imagination, and Neo will as to capture it. This is a brilliant programme and I'm so pleased that I have it. I have also got the sky package that you mentioned. I would like to see you do another painting style photo, but using a French Impressionist style like Édouar Manet. This would be very interesting. Havagooday Greg
Great tutorial - I am still remaining a Luminar 4.3 user, until Neo incorporates the remaining features it lacks to be a 'complete' stand-alone app. I hope it comes soon.
My goodness. Anthony, you've put a hell of a lot of effort into this and it's been totally worthwhile. Just love the feel to your edited shot. You've explored things about Neo that I'd never have thought about .... and that Tiff Export was just a sublime idea. Thing is, the way you produce your videos makes it seem kind of simple, which has to be admired. As an aside, I'm really into retro type stuff rather than an 'obviously digital shot' and I would love to see you explore giving shots an analogue feel - to me, Digital to Analogue equates to Milk to Cream ...... then I'd like you to give us a hit with Black & White master classes, my favourite medium. Hope I'm not asking for too much mate !!
Hi Roger! Thanks for that 😀! Digital to analogue, yes, great idea for a video. I'm happy to black and white vids too. I have done a few already that you can find on my channel. They may be lost amongst other uploads so just use the search bar in my channel and search "black and white".
Really nice video. Glad to see how you can use NEO to create a painterly look. (I usually go to Topaz Impression). Hope you don't mind me correcting the teacher... you have a spelling error at 16:45. Thanks Anthony !!
Hi Robert. Thanks. Yeah, I caught my typo after I'd exported the video and the family were wondering when Dad was going to appear for the weekend so I just let it pass... Topaz has some AMAZING software and Impression is amongst my favourites! Perhaps I'll do a vid combining the two in a workflow. What do you think?
A lot of good ideas there; but this is very case specific. I would have scaled down the canvas or linen at the end tho. the negative structure and the mysitic do not react very well depending on the vegetation photos you try to apply them to. It will be useful anyway. I use a little of glow (soft focus) and Landscape (dehaze and golden hour) also golden hour is sometimes preferable to changing temperature, or vice versa.
@@AnthonyTurnham Yes Anthony, exactly, can you imitate hand painted photos that pre-date real colour pictures. I was looking through a book on the history of photography and found some 'realistic colour' pictures that were originally black and white! Can you do the same using Luminar? 🐱 Regards Felix the Cat! 😺
AT -- maybe you can get Skylum to provide a means to drag/drop the order of items in Favorites in the edit panel. Get the rest of the gang also pushing the concept as I have seen a few folks commenting about the same desire. Enjoyed every moment of the edit. I like the concept but have been using FotoSketcher and also PSX to do some things I like with similar effects but different as I did not have that artist to view as a starting point. Main thing is to have fun and produce something enjoyable for oneself.
Good points phlotographer. Yeah there are definitely things I would like to see implemented in NEO. I'll mention the reordering in an email. See how we go. I think Skylum need to bring me on as a consultant 😉

Hi Anthony! Great idea turning a photo into a painting! Can I email you a few pictures I took yesterday and see what you can do with them? 😸 Regards. Felix the Cat! 😺
nice tuto but i was expecting a drawing like topaz simplify... I have seen on facebook some street photo looking like sketch and when i asked which plugin was used they replied "neo".
Nice tutorial but really still found confusion where you subsequently combinedThe layered image and the main subject into one image for further editing
Ouch! 🤣 I always try to show a start to finish approach, inclusive of all the steps taken. I've found when I leave things out people will no doubt ask how I did a certain step...
Great videos but this one could have been a lot shorter with the part from the 24th minute onwards showing the use of adding the layer to create the painting look. Bit to long to watch all the other parts that have been touched on is several other videos. Still you are doing a great job. Keep up the good work. 😊👍🏻
