I'm definitely a lucky girl. My husband just built me a desk to put in the motorhome. It required removing a chair; it's roughly 4-1/2 ft long x 3 ft deep. It's large enough to have my laptop computer on a stand next to a 34" monitor and still plenty of work space. I also have a drop down keyboard tray under the desk so everything is ergonomically correct. Previously, I've worked at the dining room table and it's been challenging but we were never on trips more than a month at a time so it was manageable; now we have renters in the house and anticipate being on the road for a year or two. We had to have a better (long term) solution. I wish I knew how to attach a picture, he did an amazing job... black walnut, it's a beauty!

Thanks for the DIY RV office tips! I bought the ultra wide and adjustable monitor stand and copied it for my own space. I LOVE IT! So much better than messing with two monitors, or straining to see my 14" Mac monitor. Now I just need a foot rest so my legs don't fall asleep.

Oooh, one other thing. I would suggest getting short male to female pigtail cables to "permanently" attach to the monitor. You can wire-tie these to the back of the monitor to keep them in place (maybe to something screwed on to the mount plate). You would then plug and unplug into this pigtail, leaving the connector on the monitor always plugged in, thus protecting that connector from the wear and tear of daily plugging and unplugging. If the pigtail ever wears out, just replace it.
This system also act as a strain relief for the monitor connectors because, with the pigtails anchored to the mount, any accidental tugging on the cable is only applied to the pigtail, not the monitor's connector.

Maybe you’ve covered it but another ergonomic consideration is your knee and feet positions. Using a foot rest helps too. Great coverage and reminders for everyone who sits for a long time. Thanks!

I did that at work last year, because I couldn't have a slide out keyboard tray. But I ruined my shoulders - keep working out your shoulders to keep from repetitive motion issues.

Stacey, that is a great set of products. I have a MBP, though I use an Apple mouse instead of the trackpad. We are not yet full time in our Class A gasser but this gives me some great ideas for ways to manage a better monitor setup. We have opposing slides in the living room, so a setup similar to this would allow us to watch movies or streaming services on our 34" curved monitor. We have a 72 tb NAS full of old movies, so if we are out of streaming range, we can still watch movies and TV series that range from the 1930's to current. Ray, my husband, is also a Navy vet, so we love naval movies. I am a submarine movie buff. Thanks again for all your great content, your service and honor of your fellow veterans and the chuckles you guys give with the outtakes.😂😎

Love your setup, we are not full time but when we travel and I'm working I use my laptop and a portable monitor. My husband loves his HP all-in-one 27" that he uses to track the stock market the weather and of course youtube videos. When traveling we store his computer on the bed.

We also used a mount for our monitor but instead of a clamp type, we attached it to the underside of the cabinetry along the side of the RV. We have a dedicated desk area in our layout, so moving/putting away for travel days or other uses is never an issue. That being said, we did consider a mount type that would have allowed us to fold the monitor up to rest against where its mounted, but we didn't need that function. Just wanting to clarify that there are unlimited options when it comes to monitor mounts and their available positioning.
For my husband's desk space we co-opted the dining space and went with the huge monitor like you have since he's sitting further away due to the setup.

Thanks, Stacy for showing your work office. I bought that arm and set it up with our 24" monitor and we love it. We like buying things that others share because they have tried and tested them. So thanks for the link. I also switched over to Final Cut Pro 3 months ago and I have to say I like it so much better than Adobe for managing our videos.

We have a “second bedroom” in our fifth wheel, which Hubby made into his office. He has been using the same mount to support his three monitors since we were still living in a sticks and bricks. It’s mounted to his desk, and he has his work laptop able to connect to the monitors. The monitors are easily disconnected, placed in covers and stored in the bedroom closet on travel days. He has had a Herman Miller office chair for about 12 years. He got it on sale, and it has made all the difference in his comfort level, after having back issues. The chair gets strapped down, on its side on travel days.

Sweet new monitor, Stacey! I would suggest gluing the wooden block under the table so you don't have to dig it out and hold it in place every time you're setting up. It would also guarantee that the block was in the proper place.
If you are not sure you will always be putting it yet or you want the flexibility to move it around, you could glue in a longer block that would allow for more positions.

Really like your set up there Stacey.
As soon as you started your explanation I emediatly said, you need a big monitor, and bingo, look what you got.
The last ten years before I retired was at a desk. We finally got bigger monitor, that was great. Then we got dual big monitors, not as big as yours, but so much better than the single 12 or 14 inch that we had. You are 100 % correct about sitting and working posture. And not making light of your vertical challenged position, but make certain your legs are properly supported and your toes slightly elevated. Not a big deal , but when you are seated like that for many hours, make certain you get up and stretch and move your legs every hour or so.
Overall that should make your job much easier, you already do a great job on videos, might as well be comfortable doing it.
Ya'll keep up the great videos. God bless ya'll and hope you have a blessed day and stay safe on your travels.

Congratulations!!! I worked at a desk with 2 monitors and loved it. Now I'm even more impressed with your videos knowing that you did it all from just your laptop screen. It's so hard to only have one screen since working on two. You will never go back to just your laptop. Enjoy your large monitor. It's a well deserved treat for sure!!! Keep up the great videos, we love you......and Phil :)

A quick note for RVers that work while traveling. There are several portable monitors that connect to your laptop using USB cables, weigh about a pound and can fit in your laptop bag along with your laptop. These can also be used in portrait or landscape mode. This is my current travel and RV rig.

Good ideas for your upgrades. May I suggest something to try for your monitor to rest while traveling. If you still have packaging for monitor, take the bottom of packing the monitor rests on (face down piece) and use this to where the screen does not rest on it. This will prevent scratches or scuffs on the screen. You can use single side rubber tape or cloth to reduce noises if any exist. Place whole thing on towel to reduce or eliminate noise while resting on table.

Dang! You guys ain't playin'! You got some serious tech going on there! Just a comment about your arm position. As someone who had suffered from repetitive motion injury using computers, your arm position should be more like an "L". Maybe a booster seat with a platform to rest your feet or replacing your dinette table with an adjustable sit / stand desk. Props to you though! You should teach a Master Class on how to work while you roll.

We both work from table (not both). Wife works on workstation and I leverage a board that I cut to sit between couch & table as well as around cabinet to lock in place. We then use a double arm that holds two 34” monitors on each side of the table, one for each of us as we both work from the RV. They say there when we drive and out of the way when we are using the table.

So nice, Stacy. You look so comfortable. In our coach, I removed the recliner and ottoman and installed a small deck with a nice computer chair. There is a huge almost floor to ceiling window that gives me a great view outdoors plus a small screened area for fresh air. Now I can work more comfortably and the dinette is free for others.

Great set up, but be careful of your shoulders. Perhaps sitting on a cushion to raise you up a few inches would be helpful. I'm just healing from 'frozen shoulder', which is very painful. I discovered I was hunching my shoulders because of the position of my chair in relation to my desk. I raised my chair, and it is much better. Thanks for the great videos!

I notice a trend in your videos and possibly your RV life. Your very organized. Not only with computer setup, editing, but in your trip planning videos as well. Very impressive. One other thing I noticed is your method of back up. I been a computer technician for about 30 years now and I always tell my clients about a back up strategy. That is the 3,2,1 strategy. Three copies, on two different media, one off site. Other than Utube how do you do the off site for your video (raw video and finished versions). After all if all your copies are in the RV and the worst happens, how would you get the videos back?

Not really. Our rig doesn't have an area other than the kitchen counters that I could stand at.

This looks dangerous. I can see you getting seriously injured when Phil tries to push you out of the way so he can play Call of Duty. You know how those old MACSs are. 😅🤣😂🤣😅
Looks like a good set up. I'd leave your laptop on the side for emails and other things you don't want cluttering up your nice big monitor real estate. But that's just the super geek in me.

Stacy, that monitor is half as tall as you. Love your office, but mine would include a typewriter. Old school here lol. And no real room in my Roadtrek for a real office

I'm considering going full-time in an RV, but it requires ethernet internet daily for my job. Is there a solution for this? So far, I've been trying bluetooth in my home and it's working great without ethernet connection. I'm new to all of this. I've never even owned an rv, so I'm hoping there's a way to make it work. Thank you

There is. Check out our video, th-cam.com/video/0gmZQKw7fxM/w-d-xo.html, where we talk about our internet set up. We also have Starlink that works well for us.

She said Final Cut Pro (it’s Apple’s proprietary video editing software for macOS, I don’t think there’s a Windows version).

i am always curious about what i can change in my RV before i lose resale value. My dinette is fine...i might want to flip to a Lagun.....but i want to keep everything so i don't lose resale value. Help?

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  ปีที่แล้ว

Do what makes you happy! If you have the space somewhere, you can keep what you change out and if you need to sell it ad the buyers wants it back to the original set up.....pull it from wherever you have and re-install it.

    • @carlh-thehermitwithwi-fi679

@@todayissomeday i don't have/want the space. either "it changes" or "the parts are sold"..and buying BACK parts that I had to replace them......that's just silly sauce.
      Any further ideas?

OMGosh. You should never pick up and hold your hard drive by the cable. In this video you were holding it and even kind of waving it around by holding it at the connector. Those connectors fail and are very delicate. Pick it up by the drive, and be very careful with that cable. That’s 37 years as a software engineering speaking from experience. ❤️

Stacy I like your new set up but the one thing that would bother me is I would worry about the damage to the dinette table. The setting up and taking down will eventually damage your edge. Have you considered a rubber mouse mat as a cushion . At least then the edge will he protected and your dinette table will not have to be replaced any time soon. Or maybe find a way to permanently attach the monitor arm bracket . Not sure if you can with this particular model you have though. Also a Ted surprised you don't have a USB to your laptop and need a center piece. But otherwise love your videos . P.s. one other thing you should consider is blue light glasses...less eye strain from computer glare designed so even people who do not need glasses regularly can save their eyes from the blue light. And stretch often so your shoulders and back feel better.
