(CNN)- A former aide to Sarah Palin slammed the ex-chief executive in the scorching new tell-all, "Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin: A Memoir of our Tumultuous Years," out Tuesday.
Frank Bailey, who began working for the former governor of Alaska during her successful 2006 gubernatorial campaign and stayed through her failed bid for vice president, told CNN that he was "terrified" of the potential for her to become the nation's second-in-command.
Bailey lamented Palin's leadership during the interview stating, "Her leadership style was absolutely chaotic."
"When she got tapped for vice president I was absolutely overjoyed in one sense and on the other sense absolutely terrified."
"She loved to play the victim," he said of the possible 2012 candidate for president. "What's sad is that people who believed [in her] like I did...they fall for that and don't ask tough questions."
SarahPAC adviser and Palin supporter Tim Crawford fired back in a written statement. "Mr. Bailey has an axe to grind and abandoned truth in his book."
Palin has not officially announced whether she will seek the GOP nomination for president, but recently admitted that she continues to have the "fire in the belly" to run.
But Bailey countered that she lost the fire to serve as governor as her term drew to a close.
"Very soon after the presidential election in 2008 I think she honestly just got tired of her time as governor; some important business in the state of Alaska just got brushed aside," he said.
"Being Alaska's governor, what Alaskans entrusted her to do, was just second rate for her," Bailey stated.
Crawford also questioned Bailey's credibility to recount the events leading to Palin's resignation. "Frank Bailey was the only member of the Palin administration to be found to have acted unethically - twice" he said. He is currently under investigation again by the state attorney general. Then, as the administrator of certain email accounts, he acted unethically by appropriating account information he was entrusted to protect."
Bailey acknowledged his own wrongdoing during the interview. "There are many owning moments in this book, there are things that I deeply regret that I did...I think Palin is wanting to veer the discussion away from the factual things."
And while Crawford said that the book "belongs on the fiction shelves," Bailey retorted that "there's a lot of stuff in that statement that is just factually false."
Bailey's book is largely based on e-mails he kept while working for Palin.
