The best band to come out of the so called Britpop period, I Should Co-Co is an all time classic that still gets played in my house, along with it's strong follow up albums. Albums were where Supergrass were in their element, loads of mood changes from quiet introspective tracks to Buzzcocky Pop Punk thrashers! It's all good..!
Well said. I’m an American fan since I first heard the entire “I Should Coco” album being played at a party I went to back in ‘95. The whole reason why the entire album played is because the second I heard the first song (I’d Like To Know), I immediately seized control of the stereo system and made sure nobody could change the record until I had heard the whole thing. I was instantly hooked and immediately obsessed. To this day I maintain that “I Should Coco” was/is the greatest album of the 90’s, britpop or otherwise. And you’re absolutely right about the albums they released afterwards. All of them were strong, though none were as perfect as “Coco” in my opinion. The second album came close. The real travesty is that they never really caught on in America. “Pumping On Your Stereo” was a minor hit, and much later on they used “Alright” in a commercial and it gained some attention, but that was about it for the good old USA. I dunno. This country has always kind of settled for mediocrity where music’s concerned. At any rate, I will always remain a Supergrass obsessive. One of my top 5 bands, for life.
I definitely wouldn't be able to choose a favourite between Blur and Supergrass however some of their tracks just resonate with me somehow and they were for sure up on the consistency within the albums.
@@AK-nj8gd isn't it more like end 60s? It reminds me of The Monkees series...Steven Spielberg wanted to do a series like that with them, but they said no.
Absolutely, yes. It’s more like the single best album of the entire decade of the 90’s in my firm opinion. Number one. It still sounds just as fresh and invigorating today as it did nearly 30 years ago when I first heard it. I still get the same rush at the beginning of “I’d Like To Know”, and it never lets up from there. Just a fantastic, time-tested classic of an album. The second album is almost as good, and the rest are all worth owning.
Madness *WERE* on speed. At least in their early days. Yes, there’s definitely a huge Madness influence on the first Supergrass album. To me, the first album has always come across as a mish-mash of Madness, ELO, Buzzcocks, Kinks, Bowie, and Beatles. Extremely British.
@@neviathaMore like 30 years ago, but they still remain the best thing ol’ blighty has given us ever since (though I suppose the same could be said for Amy Winehouse).
Quite possibly the best 3 track CD single of all time, backed with Sitting Up Straight and Odd? Supergrass were Superstars & Gaz's solo stuff thesedays is superb
There’s definitely a *LOT* of different influences coming together in the Supergrass sound, from every decade going back to the 60’s. The common theme is that it’s all very British. I could name a very long list of bands that I hear in their sound. The coolest part is that they take all these different influences and make it their own unique thing. Musical alchemy.
Wait, a HD restored music video that is actually restored and not just the original SD video oversharpened? That's illegal! Oh yeah, absolute bop and great directing work from Dom and Nic.

Brilliant song from a brilliant album. For me, the 90’s just didn’t get any better than Supergrass. They were easily the best band from that decade as far as I’m concerned. That’s not to say that there weren’t a lot of other great bands back then. There absolutely were, but none of them could touch Supergrass. No other band to my knowledge could perform the kind of potent musical alchemy that they did. They took all the best aspects of British rock, pop, and punk from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s, and forged it seamlessly into their own unique musical brew. There’s a *LOT* happening on that first album. I can hear Madness, the Kinks, Buzzcocks, The Jam, The Beatles, Bowie, ELO/The Move, Sweet, Barrett-era Pink Floyd, Black Album-era Damned, and about a million other (very British) things happening all at once in those songs. The best part is that they made it all sound like a lot of fun. Very knowledgeable, yet very unpretentious. Listening to “I Should Coco” is like taking a wild rollercoaster ride on a sunny day. They weren’t as cynical as most of their peers were. They were a much needed breath of fresh air in the post-Nirvana mid 90’s. Anyway, yeah. I can’t say enough about this wonderful band.
