Lyrics:
We are young, we run green
Keep our teeth nice and clean
See our friends, see the sights
Feel alright
We wake up, we go out
Smoke a fag, put it out
See our friends, see the sights
Feel alright
Are we like you?
I can't be sure,
Of the scene, as she turns
We are strange in our worlds
But we are young, we get by
Can't go mad, ain't got time
Sleep around if we like
But we're alright
Got some cash, bought some wheels
Took it out, 'cross the fields
Lost control, hit a wall
But we're alright
Are we like you?
I can't be sure,
Of the scene, as she turns
We are strange in our worlds
But we are young, we run green
Keep our teeth, nice and clean
See our friends, see the sights
Feel alright
Are we like you?
I can't be sure
Of the scene, as she turns
We are strange, in our worlds
But we are young, we run green
Keep our teeth, nice and clean
See our friends, see the sights
Feel alright

it was summer 94 or 95, I was 9 or 10, my mother took me to swimming lessons and as she was dropping me off across the street was some guy watering his lawn with a hose.. as my mother dropped me and before I stepped into the sidewalk this loud music came from the house of this guy and I remember the summer sun beaming thru the water , and since forever I remember this song in my soul

If not it’s artistic peak, this was the cultural zenith of Brit pop. The summer hit of 95.
Ohh really?
..and then OASIS happened...😊
Haha dude yeah the cultiral ZENITH!! You are so cool man
Stone roses, oasis, blur, super grass . Yeah true
The big (mainstream so no 'popscene' or 'dog man star' here) landmarks for me at the time were 1. Girls and Boys by Blur (this knocked indie into the mainstream and opened the floodgates for rock crossing over into POP to gain exposure) 2. Alright by Supergrass (the stragglers couldn't help but get on board after this as it was pure ear candy to the youthful) 3. Common People by Pulp (this was probably the most mainstream expression of that time in a pop format that gained traction to the masses outside of "britpop" and indie).
Of course we had plenty of other tracks along the way... and oasis, but stuff like Parklife (the album and track) were the validation of it being "ok" to head in this direction after years of anonymous dance music and grunge. Supergrass added a good bit of rawness and harder rock (on the album tracks)... with so many great bands, albums and music around it was hard not to accidentally create a 'scene'. I'm just glad I was there to live it in full (inc meeting and chatting with Blur, mostly Damon, in 95 at the leadmill aftershow after the arena gig).
So all of 95's big hitters like this and Pulp (and of course the Universal) are a distillation of an amazing time for Britain's teens and early adults, even if some derided the actual "movement" when looking back at it (name drop time: Damon actually said to me when asked about the NME building britpop up to knock them down "We're not really Britpop.. that's the Bluetones etc so I don't worry too much" lol... the next thing they came out with was Beetlebum which effectively said "ok guys BRITPOP is officially dead" (and only Menswear and their like were left trying to emulate blur/sg/pulp/suede).
God I miss the 90's! I remember jamming out to this song when I was 24 and now I'm 49! WTF happened??
I feel you man
you grew up.

is a track about being young, embracing independence, and feeling content with life, no matter how strange it may be. It encourages the listener to see themselves and their lives as unique and special, but also to be grateful for the small everyday comforts that make life enjoyable. The song encourages the listener to talk to friends, go out, and explore, while also taking the time to appreciate life’s little joys. In the end, the song reminds the listener that it is alright to be young and free.

I came here today because the song was mentioned in "Pointless" (quiz show) as one in a list of "uplifting" songs, which I found very apt.
Haha, I guess if you're 62 it must be. I'm merely 44 and this song screams 21 years old to me :D

Helen Day Britpop genre songs from the 90's was a tribute to the 60's British invasion era..I guess most of these singers were either born or were kids during the 60's so they got effected by that. Like we..80's and early 90's born (I was born in 1990) people got effected by these Britpop songs from the 90's. So now any song that sounds like 90's songs or 90's Britpop to me makes me nostalgic and happy. Same happened to you I guess 90's britpop reminded you of the 60's British invasion era..your childhood and that made you happy.
My favourite song and honestly fits in with every vibe, I can’t describe how great this song is!!!!
one of those songs that wouldn't sound out of place in the top 40 charts today. 1993-95 is still alive and kicking!!
I never knew the release date for this song. I thought it could have been anything from 1968-2011.
To clarify it sounds like it could have been released in the late 1960s, it also has a 1990s alternative sound and a bit of late 2000s indie sound.
it's timeless for any young generation
Fitting into the charts of today isn't a compliment. This song is way too good compared to the literal crap that's getting into the charts nowadays...

If you mean the coarse side of some 'hooligan chav' Brits, aye, yer right. Just check out the rest of our population, though: we may not all be James Bonds and Roger Moores, but we're still a decent celtic-saxon-scandinavian mix of pale skin day-to-day working men, who tend not to show their frail side easily and simply hide it behind thousands of cups of teas and evenings out at the local pub... we're such a melancholic lot, lad... and our climate doesn't help, but we still keep some dignity up. The chavs are... chavs, they always were, they'll always be, but they're not any majority here. I dunno about happier. There's happy moments in every decade. But certainly less crazy and anxiety inducing. Lol
Heh heh boomer
Boomer? Actually I think a _lot_ of people who remember the '90s might agree that not only were _they_ quite likely happier then, but also that in many crucial ways _life_ was better then. Heck, comparing the way internet & computing devices worked back then as opposed to today can be a lot like comparing a coral reef then & now: While there was once a vibrant landscape where new organisms could flourish, there are now inhospitable conditions amid ever-increasing quantities of toxic crap. From a legislative, financial, ecological, geopolitical, _or_ sociological standpoint, I think in most significant respects we are much worse off now than then. It's not even like the '90s were that great, it's more like since then we've turned the _Suck_ level up past eleven & snapped off the knob.
Should have tried the ‘80’s
