    Cool! I'm starting to dabble with swathing so I'm watching swather videos to see if i can learn anything. Last year I used a 6 foot sickle mower with some sweeps to gather the oats and then I found a New Holland 905 swather last fall. Unfortunately life has not allowed me to plant anything this year so I won't get to put it to work until at least next year. I put a video on my channel with a little bit of the sickle mower at work.

    That’s freaking cool! There is a video floating around of a newer New Holland running 16 mph. You may of surpassed that on the high speed. Cool that Draper technology existed in 1970. Happy late birthday.

      . Yeah I think top speed is about 6 mph. Used to be a lot of windrowers like this around. Owatonna was another popular brand. Thanks😁

      The old girl still runs pretty good. My dad had a Hesston 500 swather back in the late 70's and early 80's. He did a lot of custom work with it. It had a 6 cylinder Ford. It worked good in alfalfa and grass but didn't have enough capacity for tall forage sorghum

      @AgWildNebraska  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@curtiswolf313 Nice. Some guys around used these 800s on alfalfa. They had a crimper you could put in them too.

      Believe it or not, drapers have been around since the later 1800s on grain binders and they were used on the early combines.

    • @curtiswolf313
      @curtiswolf313 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @AgWildNebraska yeah the crimper was what slowed it down in heavy stuff. That little Ford didn't have enough poop.

    Good evening!
    Your oats is done and mine has barely started. Looks like you got a decent stand. I actually like swathing grain.
    Getting a good rain here. Started last night and came down all day. It's still raining.
    Best wishes to you folks.

      @@thecamocowboyoutdoors5693 The straw is kinda green when I cut it believe it or not. I combined a little bit Wednesday just to see and it was a little wet yet. That is right where I was plowing around with a 3010 in case you didn't notice. Glad your getting some rain. We could use a nice rain again. Supposed to be hot for an extended time. You guys have a good weekend.

    Real nice crop there! I'd like to make a light reel like that for my combine. I always had a lot of shatter because the field was scattered ripe, and green. I like the editing, nice job, lol !

    • @AgWildNebraska
      @AgWildNebraska  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah that's kind of why we cut it like that. You can cut it a little bit sooner and let it all dry in the windrow instead of like you said either waiting for it all to be dead ripe or having green scattered out here and there. I think I cut that last Sunday. It's still laying there. It's been so humid and also foggy in the mornings. It's just like it rains everyday except not. And then it's hazy all day too. Getting those real red sunsets again. I tested the combine out on some Wednesday a little bit on it and I think we'll maybe try it tomorrow. It's supposed to be hot and windy. Thanks. I tried to make it short and sweet

    Those oats would have kept grandpa and I pretty busy with the old binder and threshing machine.

      @AgWildNebraska  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @martinbenton742 I suppose it would. Guys used to do it all that way with about a 5' binder too

    • @martinbenton742
      @martinbenton742 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @AgWildNebraska I don't remember what size table the JD binder had. Possibly 5-7 foot. The old canvas always needed patching or new leather straps . Pitching bundles on the rack was alot of work for a kid. The old D John Deere I have now, is the same tractor we used on the threshing machine. Last I was at grandpa's, the machine was still there. It was in sad shape last I seen it.
