First time I've planted beans in April.
What moisture is the corn at? Dang dry up here. Grandpa use to say, if a Cobb floats in the stock tank (23%?) crib it. Guessing they float 😂
13-14%
@@AgWildNebraska wow I’ve heard 13% ~ 18% up here and beans in the single digits
@@crazydave4455 The the first beans I combined I think were about 12 and then I hauled quite a few in at 9 percent. We haven't had a decent rain since July I think and low humidity and wind everyday just sucks the moisture out of everything. Our one shot of moisture was last night and we ended up with some fog.
You must have a lot of corn to wast. Slow the hell down. Dumb, dumb, dumb!!!!
Definitely too fast. More for the build up in the head than the 12 roll bed. The corn's brittle and breaking off easy. Slow down give the snappers time to pull it through better. And move the deflector to get corn farther back in wagon. Or maybe your tongue is a little long. Had to shorten a couple of mine
@@brandonhoad9033 that seems to be the consensus
@@brandonhoad9033 I think they're towards the end. I was going a little slower A1 or a2. I started off in B1-2 and yes that was too fast.
@@AgWildNebraska don't understand those older JD gear patterns. My 2750 is nice and simple; lo-hi w 1-4(aka5-8). Low 3 on my MF 1085 or 2-1 in my Case 1896 w the same picker and a 12 roll
That's too fast to pull that picker. Your husks are not pulling off going over the husking bed. Slow down. Picking ear corn can not be a race.
And actually it's just about right. I need a little extra husk in the ration
@@AgWildNebraskadoubt it's picking clean at that speed
@@RJ1999x Well you can see what's going up the elevator... It's about perfect for what I want it for
@@AgWildNebraska I've picked a lot of corn years ago, and the picker could never handle that speed, it's not about husking it's about getting the corn off the stalk and not butt shelling the crap out of it. It's your corn go in road gear if you want, but obviously it's not impressing anyone, by the comments being made
@@RJ1999x oh my. I guess I should try and impress you from now on.
I like that old equipment. It sure got backed up though when that chain come off. I was baling this year with a 50 year old tractor and a 40 year old baler. I didn't have many problems with it. Thx for the video Brother! Best wishes.
@@thecamocowboyoutdoors5693Yeah I'm lucky I didn't wreck something worse. Thanks for watching.
Yep run it slower. You'll have better luck picking in the morning when the dew is heavy and the stalks are tough. Open the deflector on top of the elevator to get the ears further back in the wagon.
Yep, it picks a little cleaner when stalks are a little tougher. However it's been so dang dry here and we haven't had anything close to a dew for a couple months. I grind this for creep feed and a little extra husk is alright.
The first thing i noticed was the wheels not turning on the husker bed from years of experience running one of these.
Well I suppose I shouldn't be goofing around on the phone and pay attention to what's going on.
@@AgWildNebraska lol it happens. The video makes it look like your really moving but a3 is about right I actually didn't think 4 would be too fast. Used to pick allot in 3 or 4 with a 3020.
We had several new ideas corn huskers they worked good but they all shelled on the snapping roll no matter how you adjusted it. But then we got a John Deere 300 husker that didn't shell on the snapping roll at all and but it didn't husk as clean it's not as aggressive like the new idea believe it or not that those machines were 1000 rpm on the power take off ! It had a electric switch for the side elevator loved it there is an Amish man in Lancaster county Pennsylvania who rebuilts both brands of huskers he is really big into new ideas as we all know they don't make these machines anymore parts are scarce
I think before this they had a 227 and a 237. And then I think they even had a one row mounted on the side or something. There's a couple I saw here that have the grinder attachment. We had one that had the sheller attachment that we used quite a bit.
Slow down, that little 8 roll husking bed can't handle it. I used to have one just like it and always wished I had the 12-roll bed.
Yeah I know. Especially when the chain comes off. As long as it slides through to the elevator, I don't care if it gets the husks or not.
We started losing our ash trees about 30 years ago
From the bug or something else
@@AgWildNebraska bug I herd your radio on the radio
Yeah, I didn't know if your trees were dying from the bug or something else, but yep
You were pretty easy on yourself l call myself every dirty name l can think of when l do things like that and it sure isn't genius! 😂
Well I bleeped out the bad parts
It was at that point… Can’t say as I have ever run that fast 😉. Backing up a bit to get the elevator to throw back a bit 😂👌
I was just trying to throw it to the side. Swinging the tongue would have done the job too. We used to have one of these with the sheller unit on it. The slow point was the auger up to the wagon. In good corn it was low gear. That thing did an excellent job though. No damage or f.m.
Nice video! just found your channel
Glad you found it!
I’m sorry the chain slipped off but i was laughing my ass off because that normally happens to me.
Glad you got her back together and cleared out. Awesome picking rig

Seemed like you were going pretty fast, but i don't know a thing about those, it would be cool to see one around here, don't think i have.
@@rustyoldmicrofarm4673 yeah I think I was going too fast. Chain fell off just as I shifted. It was pretty loose.
Summit Hydraulics tonight. At least it's a company we've done business with 👍 Very few tractors here have pulled pickers.
@@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin not a big corn growing state out there
@@AgWildNebraska silage and sweet corn.. there's a few people starting to combine some in the valley. Some done in eastern Oregon and Washington..
Good to hear corn is coming out dry and with good weight this year. We couldn't find that dang comet either! Keep it wild
@@anthonyherbert140 The rest has all been drier than that, even in the 13s some. I think you're still supposed to be able to see that commet tonight, but I'll probably need a telescope. I thought I saw it once but then I decided it was just a stupid jet. I don't know how I'm going to go on knowing I'm going to have to wait another 80,000 years
I have a buddy who hairpin clip, fell out, pulling the hay wagon down the road. It took off out in the swamp and crashed into a tree trashed the running gear that rack all over the place. I’ve used those locking pins, but I’ve had those fails as well for the price you pay. I’ve just gone back to Herpin clips.
Never had a catastrophe like that but the disk likes to spit pins out when you raise it up. The harrow too. That one will get the pin that holds the drawbar in to jump out. It's happened a couple times.
I never trusted those R clips too much. If we were going on the road, I doubled up #9 wire and tied the pin down. I didn't see the comet either. Friends had to set their camera shutter speed to get a decent picture. We had a pickup with a 250 tank and a pump for a fire truck out in the fields. We never had to use it on our place but helped neighbors a couple of times with fire. Doc
@@martinbenton742 yeah that's what I usually do too is wire em in. On the disk it's ass heavy with the harrow it will pop the pin out a lot when you raise it up. The hole in the pin is big enough I run a bolt through and double nut it. Started a fire with the 4400 once. I smelled smoke and got out to check I found a burnt spot about the size of a piece of bread but have no idea how it started. Static electricity maybe??? Also that bean dust loves to stick to the manifold and exhaust pipe on that thing. Don't know why but it just clung to it. You'd smell that too and I'd get out and brush it off. Never caught fire though.
Progress is easier when it’s dry 😉👍🏻. Never saw a comet, but saw the northern lights a week ago.
@@GeigerFarm northern lights here too. Folks said they saw the comet plain as day
I had a bad experience with one of those hair clips on a stalk chopper. I usually get the twisted ones or the baby pin type ones
@@iafarmer I don't use those clips in hitch pins very often. Usually on the center link or something like that. I should get one of those fancy ones for the sprayer. That can get pretty bouncy going uphill and everything runs to the back.
It looks good. We got beans done, but they were so dusty the videos were not good. Hopefully starting corn lllaatrr this week.
Thanks Tim. I adjusted my cutter bar a little bit this year. That seemed to help. Hopefully that goes well for you
Have you been done this early before? A few guys are done around here. Another good week and a lot more will be.
@@curtiswolf313 I think I was done pretty early last year as well. But last year we burned up earlier too
Get FurLife flea and tick control for my dogs today... Gooble is making money on you today 🙄 greedy bastards!! Tis the season for some freezin'! Keep getting it done!! Freaking clips!! Manure spreaders are the worst for them!! Use to drop a spreader at least once a day, until we went to the locking hitch pins. Use them on most things now.
I can't afford those locking pins so I just normally would wire the pins in or nothing at all.
@@AgWildNebraska I didn't think we could afford them either, but they sure save a lot!
That is a surprise that the hairpin stayed. Anytime I put them on, they don't last long. Typical cows, lol. Bet that feels good to get the crop off and into the granarys. Thx for the video my friend.
Clip stayed in the pin, but the bolts on the header left the chat, with the bracket..
@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin , Well something had to go.
@@thecamocowboyoutdoors5693 exactly.. always has to be something..lol
Yeah those hairpins are kind of a joke. Usually I just get myself a good piece of wire and go through the hitch pin and then up to the handle and it never falls out then. Those cows they hear a tractor and they think it's the dinner bell. Yes good to be done
Ha! The pin stayed! I've only lost one once, but i don't have near the ground.
I don't know why it's not showing up but I think my comment got deleted. I don't know. I think I said that I usually wire them in or something along those lines

Ive seen a couple of those tractors up this way. Probably a decent ol machine.
Oh they're probably okay. I've never run one. There weren't too many of those around here that I remember. I think they were just too big for the size of farm around here.
Im always impressed with the land you have down there. You take care of it well too. Ive been thinking about getting a drone. The aerial footage looks nice. Im cutting greenfeed up here. Should be done it soon. Best wishes my friend.
@@thecamocowboyoutdoors5693 thanks. I have some more of me actually combining and trying to fly the drone at the same time. That's a little tricky. I haven't put any of that together yet to throw on here but maybe someday I'll get to it. It's always interesting to me to see how other folks's land lays. I saw you cutting oats it looked like. Cool old tractor. It would be interesting to know if it all works and if the steering had a problem. And, what else is wrong.
@@TAHDAHFarm definitely has an issue with the steering. I don't know if it was just low on hydraulic oil or what. I've never had one act like that but that's 4020's and stuff. Maybe this one is different
