  • How to install Chevy Spark EV aftermarket speakers (on a 2016 model). Total cost ~$110
    Props to ee241 in this post for speaker recommendations:

    **NOTE** On recommendation of another user, there has been a comment that these front speakers are not the same ohms as the stock speakers that were taken out. This is true. Stock front speakers are 8 ohm. These speakers are 4 ohm. This results in more power going to the fronts and i compensate with fader adjustment in EQ. I briefly looked for quality 8 ohm 4 inch speakers but could not find any. Please be advised that using speakers with different specs than the original ones is done at risk.

    Thanks for this. Just got my Spark EV and the stereo sounds like it's underwater.

    Thank you man I've been trying to figure this out for months on the front speakers!

    Thank you for this video and your tips. The two-screw attachment in the back, the front cover removal, tossing the old ‘speakers in a can’, the toolkit, the wiring harnesses, all of it... everything came together nicely. I went with Infinity speakers front and back (my own personal preference).

    Hey great video. Just did the job and I'm very happy with the upgrade. Just note that the link to the Pioneer 4x6 speakers now goes to a link for a speaker with a different dimension. Make sure you get 4x6.

    Noticed your OEM front speakers were 8 Ohm and the Alpines that you installed were 4 Ohm. That's half the impedance of the original speakers and that's why the new ones sound distorted at high levels. The rear ones have the correct impedance (4 Ohm).

    • @tehjosheh
      @tehjosheh  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vladimir Lekov thank you for pointing this out. I got these speaker recommendations from a forum post and did not check the impedence myself but would make sense they are unbalanced. Do you see any issue with me continuing to use them with adjusted fade compensating for the difference in power delivered?

    • @vlekov
      @vlekov 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Using them this way shortens the life of the voice coils, but those speakers can handle quite a bit of power so as long as you're not blasting the stereo all the time they should be fine. They won't last as long as the rear ones though.

    Hey Josh, I just picked up a Chevy Spark Ev and this video was incredibly helpful. Is the link for the 72-9300's still correct? it takes me to a listing for Mazda/Nissan Adapters that don't look quite right.

    • @tehjosheh
      @tehjosheh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that looks to still be correct, please note I highly recommend soldering inline 4ohm power resistors to the front speakers to avoid the issue I experienced with too much power going to them.

  • @crahme617

    I found for the front speakers pioneer TS-G1030F is better or the ones that you used are better? Thank you for the helpful video

    • @tehjosheh
      @tehjosheh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, based on specs those seem to be higher rated and 3 way so there is a good chance? Note, I'm currently looking into adding some resistors to the front speakers to match the impressive of the stock speakers (8 ohms)

    Will those Metra cables work for a 2014 chevy spark 1LT i'm not sure if they are any different, I don't want to buy something meant for a Nissan/Mazda for a chevy vehicle if it for sure won't work.

    • @tehjosheh
      @tehjosheh  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest I'm not completely sure. I'd give it a shot, make sure there is a return available, and just return them if necessary.

    • @Galacticmoto
      @Galacticmoto 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Josh Vasquez gotcha, I bought them on amazon, so I can return then just in case. I have an infinity 12 inch sealed 4 Ohm, on a Boss 1100watt peak /433WRMS at 4 ohm. Wanted to upgrade all 4 speakers and bought boss tweeter/speakers. Going for something similar with what you did, I have bass, just want the clarity now. Installing them tomorrow if the wires connectors work.

  • @mhinchmn

  • @shimshamist
    @shimshamist 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey I have a 2014 Spark and my main problem is they don’t project a good bass. Would replacing the speakers like this do the trick or is there something else I may need to do?

    • @tehjosheh
      @tehjosheh  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      in all honestly, while replacing the speakers definitely improved sound clarity, they only marginally improved bass. If you really want more bass I would look into having a powered sub installed.

    been talking with crutchfield and they have been trying to get me to buy 4'' speakers for the back also. Do you know if a 4 inch will fit ok or should i go with the 4x6''?

    • @tehjosheh
      @tehjosheh  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shadownian from my understanding, 4" speakers generally have better sound quality than 4x6's but 4x6's are usually louder. Not sure if a 4" will drop straight in there or if you might need an adapter plate. Also pay attention to Ohms when selecting your speakers.. another user posted the fronts I used might be the wrong Ohms which is why I had to move the fader toward the back

    • @tehjosheh

      I have not had an issue with the stock head unit powering the speakers. There is a discussion on the ohm difference but I've heard that to be negligible.

    • @tehjosheh
      @tehjosheh  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Sort of depends how much the current system bothers you. I'm happy I did it but to be fair maybe it was a 35% improvement or so? Hard to say unless I had both systems side by side.
