24 years old. I grew up with this music, having family in Namibia, South Africa and Zim. Now im back in Germany, where i was born, and exploring my identity and i have come back to this song once again. I was vibing so hard, remembering when i was small, when it occurred to me to read a translation of the lyrics. Thats when the meaning of the song hit me like a truck.
Our heritage is in the songs you left us. Rest in peace Nzou Samanyanga!
I have been loving and singing this song for years without understanding the words. It is only now that after googling the lyrics i fully understand the words. Now it hits harder than before

Though i don't understand the language but the song is soulful, touching and beautiful. Its just too sweet. Can't get enough of it.
Still remains to be one of my favorite songs despite not understanding even a single word.

The meaning of this song manifested itself around 2006-2009 in the Ghetto. Many lost their lives, and older persons were being persecuted of practicing witchcraft on their children whilst it was the raveging and deadly effects of HIV/AIDS. It's still making sense in 2024. Thanks, Samanyanga, for this masterpiece. Continue to Rest In Peace.
