Seamless , lyrical , thoughtful gap between innovation and tradition. He is one of super rare breed in ages where everyone wants to be technical proficient without a soul.
Holy smokes! Genius, monster player, I just saw him live at the Detroit Jazz fest yesterday and was immeasurably blown away. Such a tremendous talent. I love that he was mentored by the late great Barry Harris, too. Simply amazing!
Fred Hersh also
Technically dazzling. Authentically rolling and swinging. Lovely inner voicings, runs and reharms.
Wow.
I heard about Sullivan Fortner from Brad Mehldau's interview with Rick Beato. Phew! I'm glad someone is keeping stride alive.
Same. I'm glad I found this guy. Amazing.

😊
left hand, insane
Holy shit!
Sullivan is really special. His use of the left hand, polyphony, playing the whole keyboard, plus all these bursts and runs and switching from straight 8's to swing 8's. Someth. else! Michael Lucke did a nice transcription: th-cam.com/video/PqVuaomhKGg/w-d-xo.html

Wonderful performance, and performer. Somehow, despite a much different style, he gets a Monk - like tone. But he's very much his own player, and a great one.
Thanks for the endless love and support you have constantly shown me. I’m forever grateful. I really appreciate your unconditional love towards me...Where are you watching from?
Wow
