Was part of that UP Crew. I'm the one in the green vest and white short sleeve shirt. Also the one on the rear of the SD70M during the Run around.

This video is so remarkably clear that I thought it was an HO layout
    Keep the good work flowing.

Hey! Good to see the old girl on the move. When I was on one of the last excursions it ever made, the engineer invited me into the cab of SP 1487, a Fairbanks-Morse switcher on the other end of the train. A memorable experience I will never forget.

Great video! I stumbled upon this in passing and pulled over quickly to snap a few pictures just as the UP locomotives were approaching. Would have hung out longer but I had a rental and a full load so I didn't have the time.

Sure do miss the Old SP line from the 50's-70's.
Used to see it rolling through San Pablo/Pinole/Hercules near the ATSF line. Both rolled freight and passenger through the East Bay, north.
A lot of great memories as a kid.

For those wondering, a member at the GGRM stated they are going to try to have it back under steam as soon as they can once they get settled in Sonoma/Schelliville. It has about 2 years until the next inspection.

I thought it went to Schellville. Sonoma is on a branch that is off the main at Schellville.

Will Southern Pacific 2472 return to steam in Sonoma? Sad to see 2472 go, now I can't see an Southern Pacific legend close to where I live.

Why do they need 4 diesels to move her all the way to her new home??????? I was expecting the other 2 diesels would leave after the UP diesels arrived

    how she returns with 4449

    • @stuartadamsrailfanningvideos

There's almost zero chance that SP 2472 and SP 4449 will ever meet again. Restrictions on steam excursions from Amtrak, UP, BNSF, and other regional/shortline railroads are factors. The Golden Gate Railroad Museum (GGRM) equipment is being moved from Niles Canyon Railway (NCRY), to a new home just off the connection to the Northwestern Pacific Railroad (NWP) in Schellville, California. SP 2472 will return to operation again, once GGRM is settled in Schellville, after it's last run 5 years ago in 2015. SP 4449 is stabled at the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation (ORHF) in Portland, Oregon. Both locomotives ran together back in 1992, I believe. Getting both locomotives together again would be a logistical nightmare. It would be great to see them together again though! At least UP 4014 will be making a trip west in August from Cheyenne, through St. Louis, Missouri, out to California over Donner Pass, north to the Pacific Northwest through Oregon and Washington, and then back home to Cheyenne!

Why is the equipment being moved?

    • @richierich2048

Golden Gate Railroad Museum is relocating their equipment from the Pacific Locomotive Association's Niles Canyon Railway to their new home in Sonoma County, California.
