  • Today we go step by step on using the pump to get water out. Come join the fun. Most likely not the correct safe way but still its the way i have learnt from trial and error.

Quick tip.. use your short length of hose that you fill up the tank with, and connect it to a spare delivery and connect that to where you fill up from the hydrant. Open the delivery and the tank lever. This will re-circulate the water from the tank and avoid overheating the pump casing.

You'll have endless hours of fun with Fire-Fudge, best couple of grand any bloke could spend. Its never-ending you'll still be tinkering with it a decade from now, unless you get another one! Jammy bugger!

Make yourself a portable dam using a triple extension ladder with a salvage sheet and line bag. That way you will be able to show and test the suction facility. If you need any help building/using one I'm not that far away from you and more than willing to pop over.

    Aussie firefighter here. 2 points
    1. The way you were connecting the strainer is correct. Its the way we are taught.
    2. Hose reels always need to be charged (pressurised) before winding away. If they aren't then they can sustain damage while sitting for too long or when you charge it the next time wound up.

There are 2 pumps back to back. So with high pressure lever over, some water from the main pump is diverted to the 2nd pump which feeds the hose reel. Thus, you can run both together. The issue for the pump operator is to ensure that you don’t over do the HP on the hose reel, and knock the guys off their feet who are using 45/70mm hose.

You are a comedy act you are, Lawrence! By the time you have sorted your PPE out, connected the hoses and rescued your basket that's rolling away with the wind, the burning building would have burned down by now!

Your compound gauge shows the vacuum on the left. The increments show how many metres up from the source the water is being drawn. The pressure on the right hand side shows what the water is coming in at from a hydrant or another appliance feeding in.

You should get down to Shrewsbury and pump some of the flood water, would make for a great test.

Hi mate you sure you dont get water out the hose real when in low pressure?? On the scania you can BUT... it's not useful at all the 2 pumps inside are known as (low pressure) centrifugal pump and high pressure peripheral pump when in low pressure water comes from the hose real too but it's no good for anything. I found its handy just to leave it in high pressure, even the the gauge shows 20/25 bar it's not giving that pressure to the deliveries at the back so you can run both at the same time....... not advisable but if your first pump on scene...... you should have a high and low pressure gauge separate and a compound gauge for hard suction or pressure fed supply. Great videos!!!!!!@

I always got told that if using both sets of hose line leave it in high pressure avoiding problems ect

Let me explain you put a strong hose on the sucky part of the truck aaand a flexibel hose on the blow part of the truck mind you ther needs to be a nozzel part to and that part you aim at the hot stuf and put it out before it burns you

    • @craigshearer854

Then again. Until u have faults with cavitation - pump priming - frictional loss - burst lines - broken seals /air in the system ect whilst ie out on a job working from ither open (water hard suction) or pressure fed supply's with upto 5 working branches and lines complete with a ground monitor and dividing branch all of wich are coupled up/working at the same time. With high and low pressure working together resulting in different guage readings. Then uv goto know wich of the 5 guages your looking at and what fault or alteration they are telling you and why ie line 2 water pressure to low. Centerfugil pump is overheating. Compound guage altering from 0.6 to 0.4 then - dropping to 0 of wich can also have 2 different meanings depending on the type of water suply you are working from.! . The last thing you would want is a collapsing hydrant or any other type of water failure whilst out on a real incident involving a big fire. A good pump operators job is to know what's happening thoughout all systems at all times.

Remember Lawrence. Suck isn’t a technical word in the firefighters handbook. You don’t suck water, you “lift” water.
I got my ears bitten off by my sub officer for saying suck.

yeah the carbon ring on the HP side is leaking badly. Will work out when to get the pump taken out. As i will attempt this myself.

You should either sell that appliance, or find a qualified pump operator. Accidents involving pumps can occur & even you will admit to being clueless. It's not a toy. You have picvked up some knowledge somewhere, but this is a fine example fo a little knowledge being a dangerous thing. I'll bet that not one piece of equipment has been standard tested?
    Knock off and make up.
