Just bought a 5'11". I'm 73kg/160 and 61 yr old. I use quads in chest and above, but twin for smaller. I've paddled in small 1-2 just to see how small I could go with it, and have to say it was faster paddling and surfing than my 5'11" Dominator II (34L) Similar rocker profile except the S Boss has 1cm more rocker in the tail...must be the double concave that gives it the extra paddle in power. The rails have great hold and definitely good for overhead. Most surprising though, was how good it went in waist high. (not that I normally would bother in that size unless desperate) My only complaint is my big feet hanging off the side of that pulled in tail.
Always enjoy your reviews and some footage of the boards on clean waves. Good to see actual turns and how the board projects. Personally - I would still like to see a straight edge put across the bottom to see actual size and change in concave as you go towards the tail. (this one particularly with the vee-double concave). I also like to hear the classic measurements @ 12 inches - tail and nose - that really creates basic area comparisons with other boards. For sure mention the type of rocker - staged, continuous, or low-fast, with nose flip etc. (you often do some of this) Cheers and good work.
Wooly... Your surfing is getting finer with age, good stuff! Appreciate all the reviews , always insightful and entertaining , thanks man. Johnny surfyogis
Love your vids mate! How wouldd you size it for a bigger fella? 6'5 / 215 lbs.. inter/advanced. Main drivers are MR Cali twin around 38L and JS Baron Flyer 5'11... but lookin for good wave board to complement those
Gentlemen! I have a question for you guys!I brought the El Baron from JS and it is amazing! Very thin tail and low rails! I normally surf “normal boards” @ around 31l. I brought the El Baron as an easy to surf board for slightly bigger waves, but I ride it in everything now. Got the smallest stock size (6’4; 19 3/4; 34l). I wish they would do the same board, same rails and thickness, but shorter and wider!!! That’s how I came across the S Boss! If anyone knows both boards, I would be thrilled to hear your opinion about all three!! For me the thin and narrow tail, super sensible rails combined with a wider nose is a winning combo! …it feels like cheating! ..to keep it fair to other surfers around me I want the same feel in a shorter board! Your thoughts??
I havent reviewed the El Baron as yet, but I have seen them. Yes these two are similar but not the same, very different bottom contours although the outlines are similar and both have rolled decks with fine rails.
Very good review...!!! A pleasure to see your videos... a question: Could you compare the frk + with the sboss? Which one do you like more between those two surfboards...?
Hard to compare me to Kelly :). His boards would be way smaller than I ride and he is always playing with different versions of the boards we see on the shop floor.
Thanks for the great review! question: how did the board go in choppy/windy conditions? Although iv never ridden one myself, Iv heard that epoxy doesnt like chop, and where I surf there tends to be wind most days... Thanks man, keep up the great work!
Yeah I hear a lot of people saying that but I don’t have a problem with epoxy boards in the wind 💨 WA is always windy! The sessions at the start of the clip (in board shorts) was really windy side shore and it was fine 🤙
Thanks for the review. I was waiting for this one soce the board has been annonced by Firewire. Am i right to say the board is quite comparable to the holly hypto? What are the most notable difference between this two boards? Thanks again for your review
I've got the 5'8. Im only 70kgs, 5'9. I found it a tricky board to figure out. It's fast, but feels "tippy" I think due to the v bottom. Tried lots of fins, thruster and quads. Wasn't really happy. Bought the endorphins medium. They seem to level the board out. Prefer it as a quad. Should have bought large fins as it can get a bit flighty on a decent 4ft wave. Still not sure where this board sits in my quiver. Probably the 3 - 4ft range
@SeaBean-zo1gl fair enough. I have the 5'8 and I'm 5'8 and 65kg. I bought the medium endorfins and later twins. I prefer the thruster for pivot and quads for that drive and projection. When it's under head high I go to the twin and trailer for speed. I've been riding it between 3-5ft and haven't found it flighty. I find it easy to "tip" when I'm trying to pump for speed...but I don't find it too loose or uncontrollable. I'm not actually sure on its upper limit! :)
Volcanic feels a touch stiffer/stronger, so would been great for bigger waves. If you want to surf smaller waves on it then I would choose the Ibolic. I like both constructions.
@@WoolyTV I have the Mid6 7'-0". It is surprisingly very responsive, paired with the FCS H4 quad. Now Thunderbolt has the mini version, and the 6'-4" should be very fun.
How'd you find the sabotaj mate? I reckon it's great as a barrel sled, paddles well and holds, but just feels dead and unresponsive on turns. Maybe it's the super refined tail? Any ideas how to liven it up? Cheers
Lmao surf like slater on his mid? Show me a single clip of him surfing his new mid….only seen Kevin Schultz surfing it in FireWire promo vid. All Kelly did was push it in a pool 😂 Straight cash grab by FireWire.

So good to see a guy (in similar age) surf so well. Man, he just gets better.
Ha ha thanks 🙏. I’m not sure I’m getting better, maybe just an improvement of filming/editing ⚡️🤙

Yeah it goes great. Its the wide nose and area under the chest that make it such a good paddler.
Thanks for the review wooly.

Good surfing, especially in the bigger cleaner waves, some nice top turns! The board looks similar to the Chilli Mid Strength. Thanks for the review.
I havent ridden a Chilli Mid but Ive heard great things about that board.
Awesome review Wooly! 🤙🏼

Nice frontside 360 Wooly 🦣! You almost got two in a row!!!

Very different boards, FRK + has a deep single concave through the whole board and more rocker. The S Boss has a much wider nose template.
@@WoolyTV Thanks Wooly! Great review. Would love to hear more about how these 2 boards feel different in the water. (FRK+ vs SBoss).
Clear and awesome review, thx!
I’m still wondering sci fi 2.0 or s boss which one is better for me.
But, I decide S boss 😂 after watching your review.
Great review. Thanks Wooly.

Kelly’s board always seems so technical but when you ride it, it just looks natural and being one with the waves.

Got on the boss up yet woolly? It would be sick to see that review
@@ItsJustBunny1 not yet! It’s about number 6 in the list. I have a backlog of boards at the moment 😝

The lighter the construction, the more chattery the board gets. I've heard the ibolic and volcanic are a lot better than helium 2 which is lighter.
Catching all the waves on this one
Wide nose template helps the paddling, super good paddler.
Loved the review. Have you tried the Boss Up ?
Not yet! It on the cards for a review this year.
Thanks for the review
No problem 👍
How do you like the hydroshort compared to the sboss? The sboss looks very similar to tomo's new hydroshort round to me
I havent ridden a Hydroshort round so I cant really compare the two.
Love the reviews! Can you review the album vesper?!
Sorry no Albums on the radar at this stage.

I feel like its more refined in the rails to the Holy Hypto, it also has a much wider nose template.
Looks fun! How wpuld you comoare the s boss to the xero gravity?
Very different boards.
Drawing some really different (in a good way) lines on that board!
The pulled in tail changes the way I surf.
Boss up next.?
Not yet, but I will get one for a review sometime this year.
So good Wooly! Have you had a chance at riding it with endorfins? Thoughts on the slater fins?
I didn’t use the Slater fins on this one but I do have a set of the twins, which I’ve used on a couple of other boards. They feel good 👍

@@mattyk112 good info mate. I won't splash out on the large then
Any thoughts on Ibolic vs Volcanic construction for this board? Or much the same?
Volcanic feels a touch stiffer/stronger, so would been great for bigger waves. If you want to surf smaller waves on it then I would choose the Ibolic. I like both constructions.
How did it handle the choppier days?
No problems for me.
Gonna take lot more than a new board to make me surf like the goat.
Ha ha, me too!
what do you think of frk + vs s boss ?
2+1 less than chest high like Hypto?
I didn't try it but yes I think it would be good.
@@WoolyTV yeah Kevin Schulz, the firewire test pilot didn’t mention it at all in his review of this board.
Would this be a good board for pumping ments ?
Yeah I think it would be. Especially if you want a nice early entry into waves, it’s a great paddler.
Have you tested the HI Mid6?
Not yet, but Im thinking about doing a Thunderbolt review this year.
