Love the Howard era. He replaced Jesse then left with health issues and Jesse is back with them. Howard is still on good terms with the band. Rose Of Sharyn is my favourite Howard song 🤟

This was the radio version. This genre is metalcore. “Rose of Sharyn” is one of their best with Howard in tribute to his mother.

this IS metalcore. this is like, literally the textbook metalcore from this era. the vocals and drums are what really give it away.
You guys are correct! Metal core is name of this genre. Heavy but melodic, and for me these guys carry the metal core flag. I like both singers, but Howard is one of my favorites, and he keeps getting better with age. Just Listen to Sion, his new project, he sounds amazing. The song is The Blade. Keep it up!

sion was actually a good project, lots of effort put into it, kinda disappointing some of the community actively hate on jared dines because howard genuinely wanted to work with him.
They started with Jesse who had to leave due to some personal struggles, they replaced him with Howard for like 9 years then Howard had to leave so they brought Jesse back who sounds like he never missed a beat. Would love some pre-Howard tracks on your channel. Rise Inside or Fixation on the darkness are a couple of good ones. For some reason many requesters tend to want to hear the more ballad'y songs. They have so many heavier songs with brutal riffs and screams. Temple from Within is a good one from their first album.
I dig Howard but tend to like the stuff done with Jesse more. Also worth checking out is the side project Times of Grace - Strength in Numbers with the guitarist and Jesse.
Jesse was cool, he had some great melodies he would do. But Howard is just a powerhouse. He can hit the notes, he knows about dynamics, he's always on pitch. One of a kind dude right there.
I honestly never understood the whole Jesse vs Howard thing. It's not like ones great and the other one sucks imo, I like Jesse's screams, lyrics, and stage presence better than Howard's. But it's undeniable that Howard is the superior vocalist and is the more consistent singer. I was introduced to KSE thru howards catalog and loved them. Love both singers, just love the band in general. I hated metal core screaming shit as a kid, this band was the band that changed my ears, and the OG avenged sevenfold albums as well
I absolutely love Killswitch! Thank you for reacting to them! If you guys enjoyed this version, you should listen to the studio version of this song too! More harsh vocals/more emotion in that version. And yes, Killswitch is classified as metalcore.
At Knotfest this year my now 13year old son became a big KSE fan all it Was hearing "I am broken too" . The only thing he ask for Christmas was cds so he is getting 3
I remember seeing these guys live when they toured for this album back in 2004. I can't believe that was 17 years ago already! They were excellent live!
Was also on that tour. sweatiest concert I've ever been to. In a good way!

Love this song!! Howard is the singer in this video. This song came out in 2004 and this CD didn't leave my player for a loooooong time. I prefer Howard, personally, because he's the one I fell in love with. Jesse is amazing too though but Howard's vocals...whew *fans face*. Just saw these guys at Knotfest....they are great performers. Next has to be "A Bid Farewell" or "When Darkness Falls" or "Rose of Sharyn". ❤🤘

Killswitch is such a powerful band. They write with such conviction, such passion and often such uplifting messages that it's hard to top. Stuff like "arms of sorrow", "rose of sharyn" and my favorite song of theirs "this fire" are some great howard performances (the guy in this video) and Jesse has great ones from his first and second stint in the band (the other singer from the signal fire video). Too many recommendations from these guys to list, they're just the best.

Yes love both Jesse and Howard’s vocals in KSE. Just so much emotion in both the lyrics and singing. Jesse pours his heart out tho in the recent release of the Times Of Grace album, can’t help but get choked up listening to it.

Kill switch engage is considered the kings of metalcore. You guys have done a few songs from metalcore bands and progressive metalcore bands like like Polaris and Oceans Ate Alaska. Also SOAD are considered nu metal and industrial metal
Jesse (white guy) was first. He apparently left for some personal reasons. Then Howard (black guy) joined. Howard later left due to health reasons and Jesse came back. They did "The signal fire" as something special for the fans. As far as I know there has never been any "beef" between the two singers.
I would class this as Melodic Metal.

Whilst the album version is 100 times better, the live performance of this from the dvd gives me goosebumps every time. Insane energy.

Both are great singers, for jesse, I recommend Vida Infra or Life to Lifeless, for Howard, Hope is or When Darkness Falls. Great band, great live show! great video, keep on rockin in the free world!

The best rendition of Killswitch. Just saw them open up for Slipknot in October and they were definitely not the same.
They basically defined Metalcore

As much as i love Killswitch, i gotta say, the kids at O'Keefe Music Foundation covered this song a few years back and absolutely KILLED it.
The same group of kids (albeit in a different arrangement) also did a PHENOMENAL cover of Guns N Roses "You Could Be Mine."

Hey can you fine gentlemen do a song from Blaster by Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts please?
He was the singer from Stone Temple Pilots, and Blaster was his final solo album. He'd lost a lot of the power from STP days, but Blaster is one of my all-time favorite albums because he bares his soul, and pays the most respectful homage to his influences. The final track on the album is called Circles, and he cited it as the song he's most proud of.
It's not your typical kinda music you react to, but it is indeed music, and I am indeed in the comments hoping you'll give it a shot.
Even if you don't react, go through the tracks and check out all the influences he emulated. Fine work.

Great band!
AILD Is an amazing band but KSE IS real metalcore. In fact, they're considered the fathers of the metalcore era.
Jesse Leach was their OG singer he keft due to separation anxiety and depression from being away from his wife after their 1st or 2nd album. Then Howard stepped in to finish the tour. KSE always has a place in my heart because they saved me from comitting suicide. If you want some songs that Jesse sings, I recommend Last Serenade, Always, In Due Time, and Us Against The World
My Last Serenade is still one of my favorites. I was more into them before Jesse left.
I loved this album. It came out during the metalcore/ new wave of American heavy metal boom in the early 2000s with bands like Lamb Of God, Shadows Fall, God Forbid, Trivium, Devildriver, All That Remains, and Chimaira all playing a similar style that combined thrash, hardcore, groove, and melodic death metal. The album version alternated the clean and harsh vocals while this version pushed the harsh vocals to the background and he clean sang the whole way through. I hate watering it down for radio.
Nothing beats the 00's melodic metalcore era
Love this song, I remember my first listen to Killswitch was with My Last Serenade back in the 2000's
Genre is Metalcore, but they have some serious Groove Metal elements to their riffs (like Pantera). Jesse Leech is the original singer, IIRC he left the band to do the family thing, that's when Howard Jones stepped in. Howard fell ill with diabetes and had to step down and Jesse came back. My personal fav singer is Jesse, but only by a hair. I'm from Boston and Howard Jones was a well known name locally from several small-time bands and he's a beast! If I had my way they would just both sing for the band full time, lol.
EDIT: This band was as huge as you could ever dream to get in the 2000's. They were blowing up movie soundtracks like Resident Evil and shit, they were on top of the world.

Howard Jones (the black guy) is actually now making music again. And released under the band name sion. The first song they released was called the blade. And they just released a self titled album
I love both but gun to my head had to pick, it would be Jesse. I started listening when Alive or Just Breathing came out on Roadrunner so he's my singer for the band. Also, this is metalcore.

Jesse Leach and Adam formed times of grace then they formed Killswitch Engage and Adam switched from drums to lead guitar. Jesse left due to personal demons and addiction that’s when Howard Jones joined and was with them until he had to leave due to health reasons then Jesse came back and is still currently with them and Howard Jones formed light the torch. It’d be cool to see you guys react to not forgiven or starting over or really anything from their self titled album released in 2009. Also interesting fact Howard Jones was trained in opera before becoming a metal vocalist
I have a love/hate relationship with that band. I love their studio and live versions, and I hate their "clean" version such as this one. The worst clean one being "My Curse"

Jesse then Howard then Jesse again. I always loved Jesse's vocals because he is more aggressive but in no way do I dislike Howard.
Now you gotta look up the video of the guitarist playing this song live while ordering a shot at the bar in the back. He uses a wireless rig on his guitar so he jumps off stage and runs to the bar sometimes.
The vocalist was in a beatdown/metalcore band before joining killswitch engage in 2003 that band is called blood has been shed I would definitely check out songs like and her name was entragin, faded pictures faded memories, she speaks to me, cortisone, house of fists *that song is like 45 seconds long* basically every song off their second and last album is worth a listen
I'd suggest "As Daylight Dies" or "This Fire Burns" next. My 2 favorite KSE songs. Super heavy, both featuring Howard, which is the vocalist I prefer. Killswitch is widely recognized as metalcore overall.

I saw them with Howard in a tiny intimate venue in Hawaii when I was stationed there. So for me it’s always team Howard. This song is the jam.

It's a lot more than 12 years old. That album came out in 2004. As for genre, Killswitch is basically the torchbearers of metalcore. FWIW, "metalcore" was basically just a tag assigned to anybody who played a melodic death metal style and is American instead of European. There was very little difference between those two subgenres back then, maybe lyrical content but soundwise they are pretty much the same. Newer metalcore is much different than the early 2000s stuff though.
If you like Killswitch you should probably do some August Burns Red and start with a track called Marianas Trench, it's a banger for sure.
The album version is better but this one isn’t bad. I like both singers personally because they both write lyrics that are important to me.

I'm a huge KSE fan and I love both Jesse and Howard. I can't pick one over another. You guys should check out the new project that Howard did with Jared Dines. It's called Sion and the whole album is great. Start with "The Blade" and then switch it up with "inside The Hollow". Jesse also has a side project with KSE guitarist Adam D called Times Of Grace. They have two fantastic albums.
If you love Howards voice, check out the work he did with Jared Dines. Theyre called Sion and they just released a full LP together

The album yes not this version of this song…. this is metal. Metalcore isn’t this radio friendly as a genre. Try Bring Me The Horizons first album. Or Suicide Silence-The Cleansing album those are SICK. Oh yeah or The End Of Heartache by Killswitch Engage is a CLASSIC as well. Personal favorite; All That Remains- The Fall Of Ideals. Have had that album on repeat for 15 yrs at least.

That album is 🔥. Inside the hallow is my favorite. Even though it's the softest track on the album, seeing Howard sing it and the raw emotion he puts in that song, gives me chills. Especially when the tears start streaming down his face when he is ainging.
