The agility and technique in that performance was through the roof! She was unhappy with it but it was lovely and showed you don't have to have huge belts and a super powerful voice to sing a Patti song.
People really do be forgetting that she has paved the way for many and even help some of us in our personal lives. Now matter how many mishaps she has/had, this woman doesn’t need to prove or reinvent herself and name. We’re always holding her to another degree and quick to call her out. We just need to appreciate her before it’s way too late
We need to stop and ask ourselves why we tear legitimate singer's down when they're struggling and only after they're dead realize how truly great they were! Mariah Carey has broken every damn record in the industry before she was 30! And she writes her own dam stuff if not most! It's not her fault that the most powerful man in the industry on purpose sabotaged anything regarding her efforts because she wanted to spread her wings and fly away from him! Let me clear he showed her a door, but she's the one who had to walk through it, Mariah Carey made herself!
If It's Over in the Grammys was perhaps her most "perfect" performance on a technical perspective, but I feel that she has more overlooked performances where she has shown more emotional power. Her Butterfly and Rainbow era performances really showcased that. Her emotion, tone, and vocal modulations during that time was absolutely fantastic
I'll never understand how people give the grammy performance of If it's Over more credit than the MTV Unplugged one. The latter is definitely better, it was so perfect lol. When the incredible run matched up with the drums at the end, that was everything.

I was soo waiting for the “If it’s over” performance at the Grammys ! She had such a presence and untouchable speech, her voice was perfect and she brought so much emotion to the song❤
Clearly nobody in Watch Mojo is a Lamb. If you are a true Lamb, you'd know that If It's Over at the Grammy 1992 is her best live performance of all time. Vision of Love at GMA 1990 also her best live rendition of her debut song. Emotions in 1992 Arsenio Hall is her best rendition of that song. The VMA one is just known for her having hit the highest live note in her career. But the runs and changes in register she did in Arsenio Hall were far smoother and cleaner. In the 2006 Grammy, she was pitchy and exhausted in her vocals throughout the first half, though she regained control by the climax of We Belong Together and Fly Like a Bird. But definitely not top 10 worth performance. When You Believe with Whitney never bested her studio version. Both Whitneh and Mariah were out of their vocal prime, and they sounded hoarse. Whitney clearly had holes in her head voice, and started riffing all her sustained notes, because she lacked the stamina, and Mariah tended to push her larynx when belting, sounding more raspy and strained than ever. Her vocal cords were not well lubricated. Some of her best live performances come from the Daydream tour she made. But not the televised ones, that had been dubbed. Also, the Christmas special in 2009, when she was pregnant with her twins, she reentered a new prime there. I would say her voice sounded more stable, fuller, and richer than the 1994 Christmas special, though definitely not as elastic.
We are not talking vocally, but the 2006 Grammys performance was amazing. It doesn't always have to be pitch perfect vocals to be an amazing performance.
@@mar-b5k2f But Mariah's performances are not known for her stage presence, visuals, or choreography. She is a vocalist first and foremost, and that's what makes Mariah's performances great. She is not a Beyonce, Michael Jackson type of performer.
This woman’s music was the soundtrack for me in the 90s. I only loved her. She truly helped me with coming out and accepting myself. Always the queen!.
Good ones, but I would add 'WBT' for BET 2005, 'Butterfly' SNL, which was fully live, 'VANISHIIIING' SNL, 'Make it happen' for GMA, Her iconic performance with Patti LaBelle of 'Got to be real'... Well, so many others...

The Songbird Supreme is a living legend and icon for a reason, it's ridiculous that people forget she REDEFINED music, all stylistically, lyrically and vocally, just because she's human and has had a few bumps here and there, she's without a doubt one of the greatest vocalists of all time and a legendary songwriter, and her respect, flowers and admiration is sickeningly overdue

Only standing O that night!❤
I agree. Her performance of If It's Over in Sunday Night Light is also one of her best performances.
What a voice! 😍😍😍👏👏👏❤
Make It Happen from MSG or Tokyo Dome deserves a spot here 🥹
This woman’s music was the soundtrack for me in the 90s.

I agree with you !
To quote a wise saying by a wise artist,"Mariah is the 8th wonder of the world" 😜

And concert at MSG in 1996 is just so ✨ to be classified.
If i have to go back in history, it would definitely be in the MTV unplugged special by Mariah.
