I am COGIC so I know the ins and out of this topic. But realistic, they should go on and let her be pastor because they are going to be messy and keep up stuff to run that other one elected. But I think they need to elect somebody who they feel is able to carry it on. I know all about this type of situation because my former church went through the same thing. It was such a mess because the people tried to vote for in who they possibly wanted but that person didn't get to pastor at all. It wasn't up to the member, the General Board has to vote and they eventually got somebody who was fit to run the church. But this church needs to come together and leave mess out of what's going on. To me, if she wasn't in a position to be the next pastor, they should be able to vote another pastor in. Just because they own the church, they are still a part of the COGIC and need to follow their protocol

Bishop Hine's wife is the Co-Pastor of his very large ministry. Who do yaw think would get the church if something happened to him. The problem is Hypocrisy. Many bishops all across the United States allow women pastors (without ordination and national credentials) plus we have state supervisors who are also pastors. So how can they throw up their constitution in regards to Valerie when they have never followed it in practice?

The Jurisdictional Bishop ALONE points, the pastor of a COGIC congregation. the vote of the congregation has no bearing whatsoever on who the Bishop place is there. I speak 38 years of service in this church.
Yes, the jurisdictional Bishop is the one that appoints a pastor, but the majority vote of the members does have some bearing. Both Bishop Charles Blake and Bishop Daniels in addition to many other jurisdictional bishops mostly appointed pastors based on the majority vote of the members.
@@nonenone5744 We just had this in my Jurisdiction, constitutionally speaking ONLY the Jurisdictional Bishop appoints the pastor to a local church. There could be some consultation with the congregation, but the bishop has the autonomy from the national church to ordain preachers and appoint pastors at his discretion.
@@LarrySmith-rt4ig Yes, the appointment is done by the Jurisdictional Bishop, but the oath that the jurisdictional bishop takes upon consecration states that he is to work with the district superintendent and the local congregation to find a suitable pastor for a vacant pulpit. This is why most bishops poll the congregation in opposition to just merely appointing someone the majority of the members don't want in order to prevent splitting the church.

How does Bishop Hines make an announcement from his pulpit about another church that he has probably not met with as their new Jurisdictional Bishop? That lets me know there is something not right about all this coming from another motive than a need to adhere to the Constitution that they don't follow. Bishop J. O. Patterson said "How do you expect people to obey the Constitution when they don't obey the Bible?"

Sighs heavily and thanks God I left COGIC when I was 19. FIRST: COGIC sits in no position to accept or reject a pastor. That determination is to be made by the parishioners who support the church in question. Second: COGIC and its “leader(ship)” constantly ignores the things they should be addressed. Homosexuality and the accompanying lasciviousness is running rampant and on full display from the pulpits to the lobby and EVERYONE see’s it.

The problem with that is that many jurisdictional bishops who are representatives of the national church allow women pastors in their jurisdictions which makes their attack on Valerie a little too personal and extremely hypocritical. Of course, most of these COGIC women pastors have no COGIC ordination license and pay their credentials as evangelists under the International Women's Department. We have state supervisors who are also pastors. Bishop Hines up there referring to the COGIC constitution while he presently has his wife as the co-pastor of his large ministry. The COGIC constitution does not support women co-pastors either. They should not have gone down this road.

What's funny to me is Darrell Hines went against his own childhood friend and brother in Christ's final wishes to make his sister the Pastor of Holy Redeemer, merely because she is a woman. BUT, Darrell Hines finds it befitting, acceptable and okay to refer to HIS wife, Pamela Hines, as "Pastor" of his church, Christian Faith Fellowship Church-the church that doesn't even advertise or claim that they are apart of COGIC.

The pastor of that church was in cogic long enough to know how they operate. He should have appointed someone before death. Unless he died suddenly.

To my understanding, the COGIC International brand does not allow a local church to independently vote or appoint their own new pastor after a founding pastor dies and ongoing. Due to COGIC duties to oversee this process, the appointments must come from the top, which is the international board of bishops working with the state jurisdictional bishop to select, vet, appoint, and conduct a ceremony to officially anoint and install a new leader. So yes, this church would need to abandon the COGIC brand and bylaws to have it their way.
Right. In the COGIC the congregation is not a polity where the Pastor is voted in. The presiding Bishop is the Pastor of the church, and appoints the Pastor.
Not if your local assembly is Independent in All Legal Form. Most have COGIC on their exterior for the same reason MOST wear designer labels, logos, and overpriced items that have poor quality - like LV, Gucci, Prada, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana etc. Big name that gets you attention - all about appearances. Look at them church books and bank accounts. Most don't have COGIC on anything. Them Daniels are "old money" with a big name OUTSIDE of the COGIC. Trust, them books are in order, and COGIC really can't afford to mess over them 😮

The woman according to God’s word she is designed to be the helpmeet. This is the Word of God!
So does this mean the man is the head in all aspects, including financial, because the woman is only used to help meet the need of what? COGIC thrives off the financial status of women because women are the majority. They pay money for all divisions of the city district, state, and national levels of convocation. Church mothers, district mother, state mother, national mother, superintendent for jurisdiction, state and national, and the same for the missionaries, bishops, and others. Let's break this down to the man's real job. He is to rule, which means there is no need for financial support from the woman because he is the head, and no woman should support men in that manner. Now, if the church depends on the money the men bring into the COGIC, it would be broke. So man is used in the Bible for representation of men, not men and women. If we are going to operate off scripture, let's make it work the way it's written . Women keep your money in your pockets and allow men to do their job. By the way, Jesus didn't have convocations where the people raised money for every position represented at the convocation. All this mess has nothing to do with God or Christ its plain foolishness. If you cared more about souls than money you would be truly focused on the well being of the social aspects of people instead of how sharp you are and people catering to your title. Until I see a change in the communities around the world that makes people want to get saved because of the church being active in the lives of people ending poverty and not looking for more people to increase the offering plate I will continue to say it's foolishness. Bishop Daniels and the entire Family and the church family made me want to be better because they are sincere. The rest of this mess is just what it is MESS. No better than the world. Be consistent with your rules because it's only what God says when you want it to support your stance. It's not equal across the board. What's good for some is not good for others. It's a game, and I hate when religion play on people. It's not right. God nor Christ is in the rituals this organization practices. Propaganda. Holy Redeemer Institutional Church of God In Christ is upstanding, they love people regardless of who they are or their status. I was blessed to be touched by them as I learned to truly love and care about people, not a status or title to be recognized by. I'm yet to see the headlines when a church stood up for injustice, to end systemic racism, to better the lives of the youth not associated with the church. Try that on for size. The amount of money you bleed out the people you could have bought world peace. In the world the rich remain rich and the poor get poorer and people look down on the less fortunate. Same in the Church of God In Christ. I have seen it and you can't take that visual away. Do better by people. Fix yourselves and stop with this outdated game.
I came up under a female pastor and STILL saved after 45 years. I was filled with the Holy Ghost on my knees calling on the name of Jesus. We were taught to get to know God for ourselves, establish a prayer life with God, get in His word, read the word for yourself, never trust anyone to read for you. To this day my prayer time is 10pm EVERY NIGHT. Many will continue this age old fight and will miss heaven. Hold on to your Bylaws.

Let’s be clear! Bishop Hines did not vote her out. Thats not how it works. According to the bi-laws of COGIC, jurisdictional Bishops can not appoint women pastors. If he could’ve he would’ve. He has nothing against Valerie or women pastors. He calls his own wife pastor. That’s why he gave the church to the next best thing(her nephew).

She is out of order. The COGIC does not allow women Pastors. This has been its stance since the beginning. The Bishop always assigns the next pastor after the church loses their Pastor. Holy Redeemer will have to leave the COGIC if they refuse to comply with the wishes of the Bishops directives. This has nothing to do with male chauvinism, but rather God's order when Christ established the church through the Apostles.

There is nothing wrong with a woman pastoring a church. In my experience some of the best pastors were women. I think we need to focus more on doing the work of the Lord and less on who is doing the work. Who cares if the individual is a female. If she's bearing fruit, getting positive results in the church and community, people are being healed, lives are changing for the better and not the worst. Then I support the work of the messenger. I don't care if they're male or female. Let's focus on winning souls and less on the person's gender please and thank you.

The national leadership knew she was pastoring when they gave her the national position and her jurisdictional bishop chose her to be the jurisdictional supervisor. There are other jurisdictional supervisors who also serve as pastors throughout the COGIC. Pastor Maria Gardner-Langston pastored in Philadelphia while she served as International Elect Lady of the International Evangelist Department and now pastors her late husband's Church in California. My thought is this I understand how some churches want family to Pastor but thats not always the perfect solution look what happened to Walter Hawkins...preachers prophesied he was called to take over (Love Center) and look what happened. And not all women are called to be Pastors at all unless I am missing something in the bible pastor of one wife no woman can be a pastor.
The most important thing to consider in this matter is what the people of Holy Redeemer want. Clearly, the congregation support Pastor Valerie leading the flock and as a result the leadership of the jurisdictional and national church should respect this.
This seems personal and the leadership's pride will result in their fall. The most ungodly thing in my opinion is that they would try to cause division in a family by appointing another member of the family, however the family seems to be on the same page. Another issue is that the leadership does not really care about the people of HR as they are more less fighting for control of the church and funds.
HR has some church and you can feel the presence of God, which is more than I can say for some of these other churches. The saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
It doesn't seem personal to me. It seemed like they are within the denomination by laws. If the bylaws states "only bishops can appoint pastors to the local church", then the appointment made by the local church should be void, because they did not follow the rules of the church denomination; they elected to be a part of.
All they will have to do is remove themselves from that denomination and she can continue to Pastor. Many Baptist churches have done the same. They kept Baptist in their name, but aren't affiliated with the Baptist convention.
I agree, if the church has no problem with her being their pastor that should she remain, but withdraw their affiliation with COGIC . However, if the church wants to stay up under that denomination they should follow the rules of that denomination.

If the church has filed articles of Incorporation and have their own Constitution and Bylaws then they still have 8:27 autonomy. In most cases, the church yields to denominational authoeities without exploring their independent rights through their own Articles of Incorporation. If the COGIC wants to name pastors for an entity they don't own, then they need to have the churches file amendments to their procedural guidelines, which will give them such authoriry for every entity. The new churches are filing their own articles, and that's why there is an uproar with succession.
This is EXACTLY what's going on. I'm an ordained elder in COGIC but this situation is more complex than the average. Bishop Daniels was wise and very business savvy. Hard to believe that he would set this up and not have all of his ducks in a row.

I have grown up in the church of God in Christ and I have been ordained and Elder for close to 30 years. There are plenty of women preachers in the church of God in Christ. I don’t understand not allowing them to Pastor because I remember 4550 years ago when I was a kid, these women were starting churches! Missionaries would go to a town or an area and dig out a church. So why can’t they pass that church afterward? My sister was one of those preachers and she was a powerful evangelist and had great revivals! She could preach the paper off the walls, and God gave her many souls. I’ve heard many women that can preach under the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring results. Some of these women are out praying us men.

I was cogic for over 30 years of my life and been to countless convocations, been to AIMS and the problem with cogic is it is not one church with the same standard! The convocations are basically fashion shows and you don’t need to go to a strip club to see boobs and booty, just go to a convocation! Every church has their own dogma and ignores the scriptures! There is an order that God has placed and cogic is out of order and it’s not the only organization that is out of order!
